No Wife, No Life Chapter 219
The driver spoke to the camera, his face a mix of fear and unease.
Harper's eyes remained fixed intently on the driver in the video as she remarked coolly, 'I arranged for this journalist, and I've also generously compensated the driver. Whatever we instruct them to say, they will dutifully comply."
Felix clapped his hands, grinning. "Nice job!"
The other shareholders and executives exchanged uneasy glances, none daring to speak up.
Without Harper's planning, FusionX Company would have been done for.
"Reflecting now, they recalled how Marvin had nearly ousted Harper, which may derail the company's grand vision. The shareholders' glances toward Marvin were now laden with reproach."
Those who had sided with Marvin looked pale and kept their heads down, silent.
After days of anxiety, it turned out to be a false alarm, and many in the room felt a sense of relief.
Some began to cast suspicious glances at Neal, wondering if he was the corporate spy.
Suddenly, Lillian, who had been hiding in the back row, stood up and pushed her way through the seats, her eyes fixed on Neal's back as she stood behind him.
Seeing her, Harper frowned slightly and stood up, saying, "Lillian, come with me."
Lillian hesitated, her hands clenched tightly in her pockets.
Neal turned around, startled to see Lillian standing silently behind him. What was she doing here?
"Come out!" Harper's tone was sharp, her gaze piercing.
Lillian flinched and followed, her head bowed.
As Harper and Lillian left, the atmosphere in the conference room grew tense and suspicious.
Felix wanted to follow them, but Manuel stopped him.
Manuel said, "Harper doesn't need your help. She knows exactly what she's doing."
Manuel was right. Harper always knew what she was doing.
Manuel let go and sipped his tea slowly. "Watch the live stream. It's more interesting."
In the dimly lit stairwell, Harper and Lillian stopped at a corner.
Suddenly, two security guards rushed in, quickly restraining Lillian. "Take out what's in your pocket!" one of them barked.
Lillian's face turned pale, and she froze.
How did they know?
Her lips trembled, and her eyes darted around.
One guard twisted her arms behind her back while the other pulled a sharp fruit knife from her pocket.
The glint of the blade sent a chill through the air.
Henry said, "Did you plan to kill someone in the company? How do you think today's news would report that?"
Because of her, FusionX Company almost fell into a media storm.
Henry then added, "Because of you, the company nearly went bankrupt. Now you want to take such extreme actions? Think about the employees of FusionX Company, if not yourself."
Lillian's eyes dimmed, filling with tears, her body trembling.
"So many people almost lost their jobs because of you. Do you realize how serious the consequences are now?" Harper took the fruit knife, her tone stern.
Lillian stood there for a moment before lowering her head in remorse. "Ms. Orsini, I'm sorry!"
"An apology isn't enough. You're fired!"
Harper warned, "Don't cause any more trouble for the company!"
Lillian stood frozen, hardly believing Harper's words.
Before she could react, Harper turned and left.
"That's not fair!" Lillian was desperate as she screamed at Harper's retreating figure.
The sound echoed, triggering the motion sensor lights above.
The harsh light illuminated her face, making her look even more pitiful.
"Ms. Orsini, you're a woman too. You should understand. I worked so hard to get into Mr. Bailey's lab. I fought my whole life for this position. You can't fire me."
"I want to see Mr. Bailey. I want to see Manuel. You don't have the right to fire me. I'm Mr. Bailey's employee. Only he can let me go!"
Lillian was unwilling to accept it.
She couldn't accept it. If she left here, she would have nothing. All her efforts would be in vain.
Harper looked at her, her eyes cold.
"You're only thinking about yourself? When Neal was manipulating you, did you think about others? You should know why Neal got close to you, but you chose to trust him. Now, you're just reaping what you sow. If you won't save yourself, why should anyone else help you?"
Lillian said, "You clearly knew everything, so why didn't you warn me?"
Lillian still tried to shift the blame, refusing to believe it was her fault.
Harper's gaze grew colder. "Didn't I warn you? Think carefully. Didn't I warn you?"
This time, Lillian couldn't speak.
Harper had warned her countless times, not to accept any outside information. She even shared stories about lovers being betrayed.
Lillian understood Harper's message, but she refused to believe it. She was truly a complete fool!
Lillian trembled, crouching down, almost crying out in pain.
"You said only Manuel could fire you, but you almost made him a global laughingstock. So what right do you have to mention him?"
Lillian finally broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.
She wasn't worthy. She had harmed Manuel, FusionX Company, and everyone. It was all her fault.
As regret consumed her, a wave of hatred surged within her.
"I'm finished; I accept that. But why is Neal getting away with it? I'm like this because of him. He shouldn't get away with it!"
"Ms. Orsini, Neal is the spy! He's the thief, the traitor! He's the one working for Luminary Innovations Inc.!"
Her eyes were bloodshot, her emotions intense.
"I can leave, but before I do, I want to make him pay! I can't watch him walk free! He has to pay!"
Lillian's body shook violently as she cried out, "Ms. Orsini, let me kill him! I have nothing left to lose. At least let me do something for the company!"
Leaving FusionX Company, she didn't know what she could do. But why should Neal still have a job at FusionX Company?
She hated him; she truly hated Neal!
Harper looked at her with sympathy.
"Alright, you've done a lot for Mr. Bailey. Before you leave, I'll give you some money as compensation for your years of service. It will cover your mortgage during unemployment and help you find another job."
She sighed deeply. "As for anything else, don't mention it. Live your life. Your life is just beginning. Don't ruin it for him. It's not worth it."
With that, Harper turned to leave.
