No Wife, No Life Chapter 79
They returned to the private room where Damian was holding court, but no one was paying him any attention.
Harper pushed open the door and entered, with Caden following close behind like a vigilant guardian.
Trailing them were dozens of bodyguards who filed into the private room.
Everyone turned to look, confused about what was happening, except for Damian, who felt a sudden jolt of fear.
He tried to shut down his software, but before he could move, the bodyguards had him pinned to the ground, leaving him no chance to escape.
His head was pressed firmly against the floor, and he began to plead for mercy.
"Mr. Elikin, what's going on? Did Harper say something to you? I just wanted her to have a drink; I swear I didn't mean any harm!"
Even now, Damian was trying to lie his way out.
Harper gave a cold smile and slowly removed a surveillance device in front of him, silencing him.
Finally, he realized he was caught.
"Do you know you're committing a crime?"
Caden's smile remained, but his words sent a chill through the room.
Damian stammered, "Mr. Elikin, I've been with the company for years; I just..."
He didn't get to finish before the bodyguards dragged him away.
The room fell silent.
Harper looked at the surveillance device with icy eyes. "Do I look good?"
She said it lightly, as if her voice carried a smile.
Those watching the live stream were initially panicked seeing Damian taken away, but now, seeing her bright, smiling face, they couldn't help but feel a flutter.
"Sorry, I forgot to mention, I've reported all your locations. The police will be visiting you soon."
She paused, then added, "No need to thank me; it's what you deserve."
She was still smiling, but it sent shivers down their spines.
The researchers in the room were stunned, not expecting the gathering to end this way.
In the end, the researchers awkwardly left, leaving only Caden and Harper in the room.
Harper apologized, "Sorry, I had no idea this would happen."
Harper shook her head. "It's not your fault; you couldn't have known."
Caden couldn't help but laugh. "You know I would never do something like this to you."
They walked out together, arm in arm.
They didn't notice Emily and her two friends waiting in a corner.
Emily had been watching them leave the company.
She was determined to get back at Harper, her heart filled with hatred, looking for any opportunity to catch Harper in a compromising situation.
When Harper and Caden left the Lavien Group, Emily and her friends followed.
The night wind was strong.
Caden stood by her side, bending slightly, a smile in his eyes.
From this angle, they looked incredibly close.
"Did you get the shot?"
One of Emily's friends whispered conspiratorially.
"Got it, it's perfect. They really look like they're about to kiss."
"Emily, your sister is something else. You were right; she probably uses men to close all those deals."
Emily's face was livid, watching the two enveloped in an intimate atmosphere, her fists clenched tightly.
Caden was clearly siding with Harper; they must have conspired to ruin Luminary Innovations Inc.'s deal.
Caden's investigation was just a pretext.
"Send me the photos and videos."
Emily demanded coldly.
She was determined to use this to get back at Harper.
One friend exclaimed, "What are you planning? Emily, I'm telling you, don't mess with Caden. He's known to be ruthless."
"Don't worry; I know what I'm doing," Emily replied, her voice steady but filled with venom.
Caden's chauffeur drove the car over, Harper and Caden got in, and as they were about to depart, Emily suddenly rushed over out of nowhere.
"Mr. Elikin, did you cancel the deal to help Harper against me?" she blurted out, her voice trembling with anger.
Harper chuckled, looking out the window.
How ridiculous. She still didn't understand where she had lost.
Caden's tone was cold. "Of course not, you should know the project had significant issues."
Before he could finish, Emily rudely interrupted, "You went looking for problems; of course you found many. Wasn't it Harper who influenced your judgment?"
She took a deep breath and continued with a sneer, "Mr. Elikin, you'll soon realize you made a mistake. When this gets out, the Elikin Group's stock will plummet, and eventually, the Elikin Group will be ruined by you. Harper, you won't be smug for long; your new backer is about to fall."
Harper withdrew her gaze, a slight smile on her lips.
"Emily, my only backer has always been myself."
Emily should have known that Harper had always relied on herself to get where she was.
If not, she would have been destroyed by them long ago.
"Let's go, no need to waste time with her," Harper said calmly, glancing at Caden.
Caden ignored Emily, instructing the driver to leave. The car sped away.
Emily watched the car disappear into the night, her fists clenching tighter.
"Emily, let's go back," her two friends said, shaking her arm.
Emily pursed her lips, seething, "Just wait, I'll make them pay."
Then, they got in their car and left.
Emily sped back to The Orsini Villa and locked herself in her room.
Quickly, she fabricated an article to post online, claiming Harper seduced Caden, and Caden, in turn, sabotaged the Lavien Group and Luminary Innovations Inc. deal to get back at Emily.
After finishing, she reviewed it twice, attaching the photos and videos she had taken.
The report was almost convincing, with pictures to back it up.
Finally, she posted the article online and breathed a sigh of relief.
'Tomorrow, Harper and Caden will be ruined,' she thought, a vengeful smile on her lips.
Meanwhile, Caden had dropped Harper off at her apartment.
Watching her go inside and seeing the lights come on, Caden instructed the driver to head back.
He couldn't deny, Harper's calm demeanor in the suite had truly moved him.
She was so composed, handling everything without panic. In that moment, she was incredibly captivating.
In that moment, he was genuinely moved, without any ulterior motives.
Was he really falling for her?
How absurd.
