No Wife, No Life Chapter 44
For those five years, they were inseparable, and she thought he was the most important person in her life.
She always believed that if she tried hard enough, they would make it to the end.
But she never expected her belief to collapse in an instant, leaving her feeling lost and betrayed by the very hope she clung to.
Just like she couldn't stop her mom from passing away, couldn't stop her brother from leaving, and couldn't stop Alex from divorcing her
At this moment, she and Alex were completely over.
From the moment she signed her name, their marriage was dissolved, and they were no longer bound together as lovers.
No, they were never lovers, at least, Alex never saw her as one.
She told herself it was nothing, just a divorce, not the end of the world.
And she was free now. A marriage without love could never last long anyway.
But why couldn't she stop crying?
Alex looked at Harper's name on the agreement, feeling a mix of emotions.
Did he ever love Harper?
It seemed he never did.
From the beginning, he always thought of their marriage as just a formality.
But now, seeing the agreement, why did he feel no happiness at all?
On the contrary, he felt a deep sense of loss, as if something had been taken from him, leaving an empty space.
Leaving the Lavien Group, Harper took a cab straight to Frank's place.
When Frank saw Harper, he noticed her red, puffy eyes, as if she had just been crying.
But he only glanced at her briefly and didn't ask anything.
"Are you sure you want to keep the baby?" Frank asked gently, pouring her a glass of water.
Harper took a big sip and then slowly nodded.
"I want to keep this baby."
This was her and Alex's child, their only child.
Frank thought for a moment and smiled.
"Alright."
Like Alex, he didn't say much, but every word carried weight.
"You'll keep this a secret, right?" she confirmed again.
"He said he didn't want a baby, didn't want our baby."
Her voice was low and hoarse, tinged with frustration.
She sat there, looking like a wounded kitten.
Frank couldn't help but gently pat her shoulder, feeling a pang of sadness.
"Of course, I will," Frank said.
"We're getting a divorce."
Frank was taken aback.
He didn't expect they were really going through with it.
But if that's the case, her path ahead would be even harder.
She must really love Alex, otherwise, why insist on keeping his child, even though he repeatedly said he didn't want a child.
"I'll prescribe some supplements for you. Your body is too weak."
Frank didn't comment further; he just scribbled some medications on the prescription pad.
"You need to rest more from now on."
He continued in his doctorly tone.
He knew how hard Harper worked. He reminded her that things were different now, and she had to take care of herself.
Harper nodded slightly.
She had always worked hard, not just for the company, but more to help Alex.
If she did more, Alex would have to do less.
She'd rather tire herself out than see him exhausted.
Now, she didn't have to worry about that anymore.
He and she were no longer connected.
"You need to come for regular check-ups."
Finally, Frank told the nurse to grab the meds and see her out.
Harper felt a bit better when she walked out of the hospital.
The sun was shining, and people were bustling about.
Everyone had their own stuff to deal with, good or bad, but life went on.
"Hey, Ms. Orsini, what a coincidence."
Just then, Caden's flashy Porsche pulled up in front of her.
He wore large sunglasses and smiled at her.
"LushTreats Pastry House has new desserts today. Want to join me? My treat."
He rested one hand on the steering wheel, looking relaxed.
"Sweet things can lift your mood."
He said casually.
"Sure."
This time, she agreed readily and got into the car.
LushTreats Pastry House was the best dessert shop in Majestic City. They introduced new desserts every week.
Harper and Caden walked in and sat by the window.
Caden ordered the new dessert and two coffees.
He had taken off his sunglasses, his eyes watching her, pointing to her forehead.
"What happened there?"
No matter how she tried to hide it, the scar on her forehead was still noticeable.
"I accidentally bumped it."
Harper answered lightly.
"Did Alex make you suffer again?"
Her eyes were red and he couldn't miss that.
The only person who could truly hurt Harper was probably Alex.
"Or did Emily hurt you?"
Caden leaned back, his right arm resting on the back of the chair, looking relaxed.
Harper remained silent.
At that moment, the coffee and desserts were served.
Harper focused on picking up a fork, cutting a small piece, and slowly tasting it.
The dessert was really good, melting in her mouth with a natural strawberry sweetness.
Sunlight streamed through the window, casting a halo on her profile. She looked serene and elegant, like a beautiful marble statue.
Suddenly, he leaned in, his lips almost touching her forehead.
He exhaled gently, his warm breath brushing her forehead, carrying his unique scent.
"Does that feel better?"
He teased.
"Such a beautiful face shouldn't have scars."
Just then, Alex and Emily walked into the dessert shop.
From the window, Emily saw Caden and Harper's intimate gesture.
From their angle, it looked like he was kissing her forehead.
Emily smirked, tugging Alex's hand, motioning him to look in that direction.
"Alex, is Mr. Elikin kissing Harper?"
Alex's eyes darkened, his lips pressed into a thin line.
Is this why she took time off?
She had just signed the divorce papers, and now she was already on a date with Caden.
Anger surged within him, and Alex's face grew colder.
"Harper doesn't lack men. Just divorced Alex, and she's already found someone else."
Emily sighed.
Alex said nothing, letting go of her hand and striding inside.
His tall figure blocked the sunlight.
Harper looked up to see Alex standing beside her, exuding his usual oppressive aura.
"Caden, she and I are getting divorced. I dumped her. She's a woman I discarded. Do you like that kind of woman?"
For some reason, he wanted to humiliate her in person, as if that would ease the frustration in his chest.
Caden was momentarily stunned, then he looked at her and smiled.
"So, can I pursue you openly now?"
