No Wife, No Life Chapter 85
Harper ignored him and opened Instagram.
Articles about her were still trending, but the Lavien Group's PR department had already announced her temporary suspension.
She scrolled through the comments, seeing nothing but hateful remarks.
[Gold digger who got her position through men, should've been kicked out of the Lavien Group ages ago.]
[Working for the Lavien Group while contacting the Elikin Group? This woman is a total disaster.]
[If I were Alex, I'd want to kill her.]
Harper let out a derisive laugh.
Bored, she put her phone away and looked out the window again.
In just a short while, the sky had turned dark with heavy clouds.
The day dimmed instantly.
Moments later, amidst the thunder, a torrential downpour began.
It had been raining a lot these past few days.
The rapid raindrops pounded on the car windows, blurring the view outside.
Caden slowly drove the car to the entrance of a hotel and stopped.
This hotel was one of the most luxurious in Majestic City.
"Why are we stopping here?" Harper asked, surprised.
"The rain is too heavy. I don't want to risk anything. Let's go inside and wait it out," he said with a light smile, as if seeking her opinion.
The rain was indeed heavy, and the water on the road was getting deep.
Harper nodded slightly.
Caden took a black umbrella from the car, got out first, and held it for her to keep her from getting wet.
His eyes flickered as he glanced at the reporters not far away.
Caden knew they had been following them.
That was why he had planned this.
He wanted to take Harper to the hotel, making their relationship known to everyone.
Two adults, in this weather, heading to a hotel—one could easily surmise what might ensue.
Harper was smart and figured it out, but she didn't object, silently agreeing with his plan.
Sure enough, soon after, news broke again with explosive details: Harper and Caden entering the hotel together, confirming their relationship.
Alex, who had been following the news, saw the update.
His eyes darkened, bloodshot with anger.
He couldn't believe Harper had gone to a hotel with Caden.
Imagining Harper and Caden together drove him into a frenzy.
Unable to control himself, he sent Harper a message.
[Harper, do you really not care about Grandpa at all?]
After typing it, Alex felt despicable.
He had been using Holden to morally blackmail Harper, even though they were divorced.
He knew only Holden could make Harper feel guilty.
He looked at it repeatedly, and in the end, he struggled to retract the message.
The rain gradually lessened.
Harper looked out the large window.
"How about we stay here tonight?"
Caden's teasing voice came from behind her.
"Of course, I won't do anything without your permission," he added, somewhat seriously.
His goal had been achieved.
Everyone now believed in their relationship.
"If you want, I can crash on the couch," Caden offered.
It didn't matter where he slept, but sharing a room with Caden made Harper uneasy.
Of course, she believed that Caden would respect her and wouldn't coerce her like Alex did.
Still, she couldn't shake the discomfort, perhaps because she hadn't fully accepted Caden yet.
After all, she had just divorced Alex. How could she quickly accept another man?
Seeing her silence, Caden didn't push further and joined her in looking out the window.
Just then, Harper's phone rang.
It was Brad.
He demanded she return to The Orsini Villa immediately; he had something to ask her.
The Orsini Group was now controlled by Brad's former lover, and he was struggling. He had pinned all his hopes on Emily.
Only by making Emily Alex's wife could the Orsini family thrive again.
So he wanted Harper back to defend Emily.
"Are you going back?" Caden asked, having overheard.
"Why not?" Harper replied lightly.
Caden smiled. "Looks like we won't be sleeping together tonight."
Harper ignored his teasing, packed her things, and headed out.
Caden followed her.
They left the hotel and drove straight to The Orsini Villa.
Caden navigated the way effortlessly.
Brad and Emily were waiting in the hall, surprised to see Caden with Harper.
Upon seeing Caden, even if Brad were seething with rage, he wouldn't dare lose his temper with him.
He glanced at Caden, pursed his lips, and said nothing.
His anger was stuck in his chest, making him uncomfortable.
Caden was the president of the Elikin Group, on par with Alex.
Brad could only force a smile to please Caden.
Emily's heart sank seeing them together.
As long as Caden was around, Harper wouldn't be helpless.
Harper was no longer the helpless girl she once was.
After a moment of silence, Emily couldn't hold back.
"Mr. Elikin, you should reconsider your relationship with Harper."
Caden looked at her, puzzled.
Emily smiled faintly. "Don't you see? She's using you. She was married to Alex. She's not virginal. With your status, you could have any woman. Why choose a divorced Harper?"
Before Caden could respond, she continued, "Think about it. Harper has been involved with several men. Doesn't that disgust you? She chose you because Alex dumped her. She's using you to get back at him. Isn't it obvious?"
The room fell silent.
A derisive laugh broke the tension.
Harper sat on the couch, unfazed by Emily's words.
"You can still laugh? You're shameless. How could the Orsini family have someone as brazen as you?" Brad yelled, pointing at Harper.
"For money, you sold your body. You're a disgrace to the Orsini family."
Brad's face was pale with anger, veins bulging on his forehead.
"If you have any dignity, you wouldn't keep using your looks to seduce Mr. Elikin."
He seemed to be considering Caden's feelings.
