No Wife, No Life Chapter 189
As Harper wheeled Caden through the office, the employees greeted them with respectful nods. But as they passed, whispers started to ripple through the crowd.
"Is that Mr. Elikin?"
"Yeah, looks like he really is disabled. Otherwise, Ms. Orsini wouldn't be running things."
"In my impression, Mr. Elikin is a shrewd and decisive individual; I never would have envisioned that he would leave all his assets and shares to Ms. Orsini."
"He's just a lovesick fool! What good does it do? His leg is crippled; he'll never be like a normal person again. People change. Ms. Orsini might take care of him for several years, but beyond that, it's unlikely."
They murmured among themselves, knowing this was Caden's first appearance at the company since the accident.
Caden's face stayed calm, but his grip on the armrest tightened.
Harper's grip tightened too. She couldn't stand hearing this, and she didn't want Caden to hear it either.
She spun around, her gaze icy.
"All of you can go submit your resignations to HR. FusionX will compensate you adequately."
Such people had no place at FusionX.
The employees exchanged glances, completely stunned. "Ms. Orsini, we didn't do anything wrong."
Even though Harper promised compensation, it was nothing compared to the long-term stability of a job at FusionX. Many even envied FusionX employees; it was fortunate to work there, and no one wanted to leave.
Harper snapped, "Insulting and gossiping about the company president isn't wrong?"
Harper's voice was cold. "You'd better leave quietly. I won't leave any blemish on your records. But if you make a fuss, I guarantee you won't find a good job anywhere in Majestic City."
Her words left their faces pale. No one dared to argue further, only managing awkward smiles.
At this point, Harper had no desire to continue the tour. She felt a tightness in her chest, a stifling frustration.
"Harper, are you angry?" Caden held her hand, his tone filled with affection. "It's not worth getting angry over such a small matter."
Caden should have been the one seething with anger, yet here he was, comforting her instead.
Unable to hold back, Harper's face turned cold, and her voice rose. "You think this is a small matter? They all think I'll abandon you."
She paused, her tone resolute. "But I won't. No matter what, I won't abandon you."
"I know." Caden sighed softly. "You stand up for me and that makes me happy."
In truth, he was the one who wanted to retreat. He didn't want to burden her, but seeing her upset, he just wanted to comfort her.
Harper wrapped her arms around his neck, her face close to his, her voice gentle. "Caden, just wait for me. Once I arrange everything, you'll stand again."
"Okay, I'll wait." He looked into her bright green eyes and answered firmly.
He waited to stand again, waiting for the miracle Harper promised.
Everything was going smoothly. Neal had joined the company, and Harper had given him the most basic clerical position.
Since Quinn had arranged for him to join, Harper had to keep an eye on him to see what Neal was planning.
Harper assigned him a few simple tasks.
Writing reports, compiling data, and organizing files—Neal completed them all independently and did well.
While others worked late into the night, he always finished on time.
To build good relationships, he stayed late every day to help others.
After half a month, he got along well with everyone. People greeted him warmly and praised his intelligence and diligence.
Besides that, he didn't do anything out of the ordinary.
After observing for a while, Harper quickly lost interest in Neal, because she had more important things to handle.
A month later, the SAT results were out.
Majestic City's top scorer was Dennis, with a score of 1480 out of 1600.
Dennis's achievement became big news, especially since he had taken the SAT right after a car accident, with a mild concussion and a broken arm. As the top SAT scorer, Dennis quickly became the focus, and his previous accident was dug up, exposing the misdeeds of the Wilson and Orsini families.
These people had nearly ruined Dennis's life.
Countless people voiced support for Dennis online, and Colin and his son faced harsher penalties. But the real culprit, Brad, remained untouched.
Even with Harper's efforts to sway public opinion, no one could trace anything back to Brad.
However, reporters cornered Brad at his home, demanding answers.
Brad hid inside his mansion, terrified.
Emily was furious at Brad's cowardice. "Dad, what are you afraid of?"
"Mr. Lavien has already assured us that he has smoothed things over. They have no evidence to prove those matters were your doing, so just go out and confront them."
Emily clenched her teeth and spoke with a biting tone, "Tell them that Dennis is not your son; he is the illicit offspring of Alvina and another man. If you say this, they will pity you. They will conclude that Dennis's fate is warranted, and no one will censure you any longer. Bear in mind; you are the one who has been wronged."
Brad trembled. He had aged significantly from recent events.
He mumbled, "No, I can't. They'll curse Alvina."
Even now, Brad refused to blame Alvina. He truly loved her.
Emily shook with rage. "You love her, but does she love you? Alvina betrayed you long ago. She doesn't love you. She even tried to frame you. Are you stupid?"
"Alvina is the worst person in the world. She ruined all our lives. She's the real sinner!"
It was all Alvina's fault!
If not for Alvina, her mother wouldn't have become Brad's mistress, and she wouldn't be an illegitimate child. It was all because of Alvina that she could never hold her head high!
"Shut up! Don't you dare insult her!" Brad's face twisted with anger, his teeth clenched.
He slapped Emily hard across the face.
