No Wife, No Life Chapter 168
This villa was where they used to live, their marital home.
She chose this place to meet him because she wanted to tell him that everything started here, so everything should end here.
Fortunately, the villa wasn't too far from the hospital, just a ten-minute drive.
From a distance, Harper saw that all the lights in the villa were on, as if waiting for her arrival.
Harper looked up and saw his tall figure standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, staring coldly outside.
"I'll go up by myself. You wait here." Harper said calmly to them.
Peyton and Jacob had come with her. Given her current state, they were genuinely worried.
"Harper, we're afraid he might hurt you."
Harper shook her head gently. "He won't anymore."
A faint, mocking smile appeared on her lips.
"He seemed to fall in love with me now."
She understood Alex very well.
She had once loved him passionately, willing to sacrifice herself to protect him.
But Alex, under the guise of love, primarily sought to possess her.
She sat in the wheelchair, and Peyton pushed her into the elevator.
The villa's servant had been waiting for a long time. Seeing her, they immediately greeted her respectfully, "Mrs. Lavien, welcome home."
At this point, Harper signaled for one of the servants to wheel her inside.
The door opened.
The servant closed the door and quickly left.
Harper looked around.
Everything was as it had been when she departed: the couple's mugs she had purchased, the chairs, and the crystal chandelier she had personally chosen.
Her traces were everywhere.
But why hadn't he replaced these things? Why did he keep them?
Did he really think she would eventually come back here?
"I've been waiting for you to come back." His voice was deep.
He turned around and walked over to open a bottle of red wine that had been prepared.
"Your favorite red wine. Would you like a glass?"
What was there to celebrate?
In the past, he only opened wine to celebrate with her when he secured a contract.
Without asking for her consent, he poured a glass and pushed it in front of her.
His gaze fell on Harper. "Why aren't you wearing your favorite red dress today?"
Why would she wear that?
She still didn't speak, sitting in the wheelchair like a beautiful, pale statue.
"Recently, the Lavien Group launched a new dress. I had one made in your size, red. Do you want to change into it?"
His tone was as usual, as if they were still married, as if he had forgotten all the conflicts they had.
Finally, Harper's eyelashes fluttered.
She looked up at Alex. "Alex, you seem to have forgotten that we're divorced. So much has happened between us. Do I need to remind you?"
Her gaze swept over the glass of red wine, her tone full of mockery. "I don't like this brand of wine anymore."
She paused and said lightly, "I just had a miscarriage. My body is still weak, so I can't drink."
She deliberately mentioned the miscarriage, as if to provoke him.
Sure enough, Alex's gaze turned cold. "Don't bring that up again."
That child was hers and Caden's. Mentioning it made him uncontrollably agitated.
"I thought you wanted to meet to clear things up." He spoke as he stepped closer to Harper, his presence casting a shadow over her.
Harper responded softly, "You're right. I do want to clear things up."
Her tone was light and indifferent. "Was Emily your pawn?"
Harper looked up, her eyes cold.
Alex dodged the question and said, "Since you've decided to come back to me, losing his child is no big deal. There's no need to regret it."
He lowered his head, his blue eyes staring at her, both scrutinizing and embracing.
"I can forgive your infidelity during our marriage. It doesn't matter. We can have more children in the future, as many as you want."
Harper smiled, seemingly indifferent. "Did you tell Emily that I was pregnant with your child?"
Alex's gaze darkened. He knew Harper had figured everything out.
Alex said, "You know why I said that."
As smart as Harper was, how could she not understand his intention? That child was his shame. He couldn't keep it.
Harper nodded lightly. "Yes, I know why you said that."
Her eyes sharpened, and she asked him word by word, "Alex, do you love me?"
After all these years, did he love her? He didn't love her before. Did he love her now?
Alex just looked at her, silent. But at this moment, silence usually meant acknowledgment.
Finally, he admitted he loved her. Otherwise, he wouldn't be in such pain.
"Did you ever think we would have a child?" Harper asked slowly, step by step.
Alex was silent for a moment, then answered, "Yes. If we had a child, I would raise them to be the heir of the Lavien family, to inherit everything from me."
To him, he cared about her and their child. He didn't care before, but now he did. Otherwise, someone like him, who only valued profit, wouldn't say such things.
At this moment, Harper laughed heartily. Finally, she got the answer she wanted.
As she laughed, tears streamed down her face. "Alex, you personally designed the death of your heir."
In an instant, Alex was stunned. At first, he didn't seem to understand what Harper meant, unable to respond.
His entire being had become rigid, his mind ceased to function, repetitively echoing the same sentence over and over again. "Alex, you personally designed the death of your heir!"
What did that mean? What was she saying? Did she know what she was saying?
His heir, why was it his heir?
"Harper, you're joking! Do you really think this is funny, that it would make me sad? This isn't true!"
Alex sneered. It was all fake. He didn't believe it.
She was just trying to get back at him, to hurt him like before. This was her tactic. He knew her too well.
Because she knew the truth, she told him this to make him feel guilty for his actions. He wouldn't believe it.
Harper's emerald green eyes fixed on him, without any hesitation.
"Alex, I'm telling you seriously, I never betrayed you during our marriage. I was pregnant with your child. That child was yours, your blood."
She emphasized each word, as if to drill it into his head. "Do you understand? That was our child, and it had nothing to do with Caden!"
