Alex let out a cold snort and spun around, striding off.

Emily struggled to keep up, breaking into a jog. "Alex, wait up!"

Caden watched them leave, shrugged, and smirked.

Harper scoffed. "You done with your little show?"

Caden shot her a sideways glance, a smirk on his lips. "Who said I was acting?"

Harper ignored him, opened her car door, and got in.

After leaving them behind, Alex reached his car.

The car was a new Maybach bought by Alex, but it was still back, just like the old one.

Alex got in and started the engine.

Emily quickly followed, glancing at him cautiously. "Alex, are you mad?"

Alex stayed silent, his expression cold.

Emily gently took his hand, her voice soft. "Alex, you and Harper are divorced now. You don't need to be upset about her. Harper's already moved on and found a new boyfriend."

Her underlying message was clear: if Harper could move on, why couldn't he?

Alex snorted. "Why would I be upset over a woman like her?"

His pride wouldn't let him admit he was hurt, but his heart couldn't lie.

Seeing Harper with Caden made him inexplicably agitated.

Could it be that he liked her?

No, he couldn't. He didn't want to admit he liked her. It must be that damned possessiveness.

He just didn't want to see her with another man.

Emily smiled. "Exactly, Alex. You're too good to be upset over someone like Harper. Cheer up. It's the weekend, let's go have a nice meal."

Alex stayed silent.

Emily tugged at his arm, pouting. "Alex, will you take me?"

She looked up at him with pleading eyes.

Alex was about to agree when his phone rang.

Emily reluctantly let go of his arm.

Alex picked up the phone and saw it was Frank calling.

"Are you joining us for a drink tonight?."

Alex remembered. Today was the first of the month.

Every first of the month, he, Frank, and Travis would meet at Bell Chime Bar. It was a tradition they had kept for years.

He knew it was Friday. Normally, he would go to The Lavien Mansion with Harper to visit his grandfather, but now that they were divorced, he couldn't invite her anymore.

"I'll be there."

He hung up before Frank could respond.

He stopped the car and said, "I have something to do. You can go back on your own."

Emily was stunned. Was he really going to leave her on the side of the road?

But she didn't dare argue and got out of the car, feeling dejected.

Alex didn't look back as he sped away.

It was still early when he arrived at Bell Chime Bar, just past six, before the evening crowd.

Bell Chime Bar was one of Frank's joints. He didn't expect it to rake in the big bucks; it was more of a chill spot for friends to hang out.

Frank was surprised to see Alex. "Didn't you have dinner?"

They usually rolled in around eight, after dinner. Alex was early today.

"Just get me something to eat."

Alex slumped on the couch, looking beat.

He hadn't eaten, but he didn't want to have dinner with Emily. Right now, he'd rather be with his buddies.

Frank didn't pry; he just shook his head and ordered some food.

Soon, Travis showed up after wrapping up work.

The three of them drank and shot the breeze.

Halfway through, Travis asked, "Alex, did you really divorce Harper?"

They'd been avoiding the topic, but the booze loosened their tongues.

Alex's mood darkened at the mention.

He downed a glass of whiskey.

Frank already knew. Harper had told him. He sighed. "Harper did so much for you."

To him and Travis, Harper was the perfect wife.

"Alex, I don't get it. What were you thinking?"

Travis looked at him, frustrated.

"Over Emily? She can't compare to Harper."

Frank might not know Emily well, but Travis did. They both worked at The Lavien Group.

"Harper is the best woman I've ever met."

Alex felt even more stifled, knocking back three more glasses in quick succession.

"Giving up a great catch for a small fry," Frank muttered.

Alex didn't respond, just kept drinking.

Soon, he was plastered.

Frank and Travis exchanged looks, both sighing.

"Who's taking him home?" Travis asked, eyeing the passed-out Alex.

They used to call Harper. She'd always come and get him.

But not anymore.

Just then, Alex's phone rang.

Travis, closest to him, saw it was his grandfather's video call.

He couldn't ignore it. He tried waking Alex, but he was too far gone.

Travis signaled to Frank, then answered the call.

"Hi, Mr. Holden Lavien!"

Holden's face appeared on the screen. "Hi Travis, where's Alex?"

Travis showed him the sleeping Alex. "He got drunk. Don't worry, Mr. Lavien, we'll get him home."

"Thanks but I won't trouble you. Is Harper there?"

Travis glanced at Frank, who pointed to the restroom.

"She went to the restroom. She'll be back soon."

Holden nodded. "Great. Have Harper take him to The Lavien Mansion."

He hung up.

Travis exhaled deeply.

They had to call Harper because Holden would check again.

Frank dialed Harper's number.

She answered quickly.

Frank checked the time. 12:45 AM.

She was still awake.

"Harper, Alex is drunk. Can you take him home?"

Harper's cold voice came through. "Frank, we're divorced. Call his lover."
