Emily's words had genuinely moved Alex.

"With everything that's gone down, Caden's bound to dump Harper. You like her a lot. Don't you want to get to know her better and reconcile with her?"

She really got him.

Alex had seen the photos of Harper and Mason too. He felt a secret thrill, hoping Caden would ditch Harper so he could swoop in.

Emily appeared sorrowful, her eyes flickering with emotion, but Alex felt nothing. He knew Emily was ruthless actually.

"What do you want?" He asked her bluntly.

All he wanted was Harper's diary. Despite his awareness that Harper would disapprove of his intrusion upon her privacy, he remained determined to proceed, driven by a desire to understand her more profoundly.

Emily's heart ached even more.

She knew Alex well, his love for power above all else.

But now, his heart was only for Harper.

She hesitated for a moment, then bit her lip and spoke, "I want to go back to the Lavien Group. It doesn't matter if it's the logistics department or the finance department, just let me go back, and don't let anyone make things difficult for me."

"Alex, I don't have any other demands. I just want a stable job. Trading Harper's diary for a job with you isn't such a big deal, is it?"

A job was nothing to the CEO of the Lavien Group, Alex.

Alex stared at her for a moment, then nodded. "I'll have Travis arrange a position for you."

"No, I don't want Travis to arrange it for me."

She shook her head repeatedly. "I don't want him to take me to my desk. Travis has already been sidelined, hasn't he? If he takes me, they'll bully me even more."

Her gaze was firm. "I want Quinn to take me."

Even now, she didn't forget to bargain.

She was right. Travis had been pushed out of the company's upper management, and it was no secret.

Emily knew that if Travis took her, others would see that Alex didn't value her.

Alex hadn't thought much about it, just habitually letting Travis arrange things.

But what she said made sense.

The Lavien Group was no longer what it used to be.

"Fine, I'll have Quinn arrange it."

He just wanted to get Harper's diary quickly and didn't want to think about anything else.

When he called Quinn, Quinn was almost exasperated.

"She just wants a stable job. Arrange it for her. The Lavien Group can afford one more salary."Quinn sighed, glared at Emily, and said nothing more.

In the end, Quinn took Emily out of the office.

He brought her to the logistics department and arranged a desk in the corner.

The logistics department was responsible for ordering meals, gifts, and essentials for the company. It was usually quite relaxed, but there were many kickbacks, and most of the employees had connections to get in.

When they saw Quinn bringing Emily in, they exchanged glances but didn't dare to ask anything.

Quinn gave Emily a quick introduction and then left.

As soon as they were gone, Alex eagerly opened Harper's diary.

It was Harper's diary from ten years ago, a thick book filled with her elegant handwriting.

The first entries were about Emily.

[Today, I met my father's other daughter. They all say she's an illegitimate child, but I don't care. No one can choose their birth, and she's innocent. She's beautiful and cute, but she seems wary of me as if we've always been enemies.]

She wrote extensively about Emily, from initial friendliness to eventual indifference.

Then, Alex saw himself mentioned.

[He stood at the podium as if he were radiating light. He spoke of the financial sector, discussed domestic and international economies, and so on, with an almost divine air.]

There was a photo of Alex giving a speech. Harper was a high school student then, and he was an outstanding graduate invited back to speak.

He stood on the stage, while she stood below, looking up at him.

There was a photo from their wedding. Holden had forced him to take it.

Harper held his arm, smiling gently, seemingly looking forward to their future.

Even though she knew he didn't love her, she still had hope.

She loved him deeply.

But what had he done?

He had said, "Harper, I don't love you and never will."

"I can give you what you want, except love."

"Take the drug; you're not fit to bear children for the Lavien family."

"Harper, don't forget how you got your status. You will never be my ideal wife."

"Don't talk to me about feelings. I will never love you, not in this lifetime."
