No Wife, No Life Chapter 167
The medicine packet had some added herbs. Each one seemed harmless on its own, but mixed together, they could be detrimental to a person's body. These combined herbs would not only make someone weaker over time but could also cause mental confusion and disrupt their mind.
No wonder Harper's been so emotionally unstable lately. It turned out the medicine packet was the problem.
Frank stood up, feeling dejected.
These weren't the medications he prescribed originally; someone had tampered with them.
But when did the switch happen? Was it before or after Harper's miscarriage?
Seeing Frank's silence, Peyton and Jacob sensed something was wrong.
They were both smart and figured it out immediately.
"Is there a problem with your medicine?" Peyton asked coldly.
How good could someone associated with Alex be?
"I'll get to the bottom of this," Frank said, his gaze heavy.
Peyton suppressed his anger and said furiously, "We don't need your hospital's staff to look after her this time. We'll arrange for our own people."
His face was icy. "Keep your people away from her."
Frank didn't argue. He administered a sedative to Harper himself and then turned to leave.
Peyton, still fuming, added, "You'd better figure this out, or I'll make sure you pay. Your hospital's future will be in jeopardy then."
Peyton was different from Jacob. He was always a bit unhinged.
Peyton, being of mixed heritage, had unknown parentage. He was raised in an orphanage.
Later, when he was older, he found out his father was a local celebrity, but due to his reputation, his father refused to acknowledge him.
He worked hard to gain his father's recognition. But it never came true.
Then Harper came along, giving him a chance to start over.
She assured him that he need not be subject to the judgment of others. He could forge his own path and attain his own greatness.
Indeed, she led him to establish HoloSphere Technologies, elevating him to a position where he could, like his father, look down on everyone else.
To him, Harper was like family.
Anyone who dared to harm Harper was asking for his life.
He would risk everything to protect Harper.
Even if people mocked him as Harper's lackey, he didn't care.
Jacob didn't say much. He always appeared as a refined gentleman.
But his thoughts were the same as Peyton's.
Jacob said, "Dr. Parker, please find out the truth quickly. We don't have much time."
He spoke politely, but his tone was firm.
They were desperate to know who was behind this. Was someone trying to stop Harper from attending the financial summit, or was there another reason?
If it was about the summit, there were too many suspects. The Elikin family, the Orsini family, the Lavien family, Zenith Enterprises Group, even companies they had previously worked with—anyone could be targeting Harper.
"Don't worry, I'll get you an answer as soon as possible," Frank said decisively.
Harper's incident happened in his hospital, and he had an undeniable responsibility.
Leaving the room, Frank went straight to the surveillance room and ordered all the hospital's footage to be pulled up.
Frank and his people started by checking the pharmacy.
Sure enough, Frank saw someone tampering with Harper's medicine.
This person was also a doctor at their hospital. After investigating, they found out he was Emily's mother's husband.
So, this was connected to Emily?
Staring at the frozen image on the screen, Frank's eyes darkened.
He had brought Harper to his hospital to protect her better, but now it had become a place of harm.
He felt a surge of frustration and depression.
Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind.
Harper had a miscarriage because she was attacked, but was that the real reason?
Could it be that Harper's body was already compromised before the attack, and the medicine packet had been switched earlier?
"Keep rolling the footage back," Frank ordered.
The assistant continued to rewind the footage until they found the relevant video.
In the video, Alex was telling Emily that Harper was carrying his child.
But Harper had clearly told Alex that the baby was Caden's. Judging by Alex's expression, he seemed to believe it too.
So why did he lie to Emily?
Emily was jealous of Harper. Once she knew Harper was pregnant with Alex's child, Emily would deninitely seek revenge.
Or was Emily just a pawn in Alex's game? Alex absolutely knew Emily hated Harper.
In her mind, if Harper died, no one would compare her to Harper anymore. Without Harper, she would thrive.
Watching the video, Frank's face grew darker.
He suspected Alex used Emily to achieve his goal, leading to Harper's miscarriage.
But did Alex know that in doing so, he was eliminating his own child?
At this moment, Frank couldn't hide the truth any longer. Peyton had followed him to the surveillance room.
Peyton had already backed up the entire video.
Peyton wouldn't keep this from Harper. He would tell her everything.
Harper would soon know the truth.
In fact, Harper was already watching the video.
Her hand holding the phone trembled slightly.
So, it was all Alex's doing.
Her eyes dimmed as she turned off the video, thought for a moment, and then called Alex.
"We need to meet." Her voice was weak. Her body was still frail, but her tone was resolute.
She had thought she and Alex had settled everything. They were divorced, with no more ties. But now it seemed Alex hadn't accepted that.
He still saw her as his possession.
So, she needed to make everything clear.
This time, she would tell him the truth, making him suffer and regret for the rest of his life.
"You can wait for me at your villa."
Her tone was calm, without much emotion, just like any previous conversation.
"Okay," he replied briefly.
Harper didn't say more and hung up.
She leaned back on the hospital bed, closing her eyes.
After a while, she opened them and looked at Peyton. "Take me there."
It was time to end this.
"But your health," Peyton said, worried. He feared she would get too emotional, especially facing Alex.
Harper gave a faint smile: "Don't worry; I'll be fine. The one who should be sad and in pain is him, not me."
