No Wife, No Life Chapter 63
Emily didn't seem to notice her own anger, still smirking.
"Your brother and I are really in love."
She shot a sneer at Harper, "Alex doesn't like her, that's why they split."
A loud slap echoed in the room.
"Who do you think you are to talk about Harper like that?"
Kaitlyn glared at her, fuming, "Do you even know your place? How can you compare to Harper?"
Emily was completely taken aback.
She held her stinging cheek, wanting to fight back but too scared, just staring at Kaitlyn in shame and anger.
"How dare you hit me?"
"Why shouldn't I? You asked for it!"
Kaitlyn, spoiled at home, would never back down.
Emily looked at Alex with innocent eyes, on the verge of tears.
Finally, Alex spoke up, "Kaitlyn, cut it out!"
Cut it out? She wasn't being unreasonable!
Kaitlyn, filled with rage, had nowhere to vent it. She turned around and shouted, "Alex, tell me, is what she said true? Did you divorce Harper because of her?"
Alex's eyes darkened, and he stayed silent.
Kaitlyn got the message from his silence.
She grew even more furious, her cheeks flushed with anger.
"Alex, are you out of your mind? How is she better than Harper? You let go of someone as amazing as Harper for her? I don't agree, absolutely not! And what are you going to tell Grandpa?"
Mentioning Grandpa made Alex shudder.
He hadn't dared to tell Grandpa about this. He knew Grandpa wouldn't approve; he was very fond of Harper. But now, what could he do?
"Kaitlyn, go home. I'll handle my own affairs."
Finally, Alex said heavily.
"Alex, you'll regret this! Divorcing Harper is the biggest mistake of your life."
Kaitlyn stomped her foot in anger and stormed out.
The room fell silent.
"Alex!"
Emily called out pitifully, tears almost spilling over, "What did I do wrong? Why did she hit me? We're the ones truly in love."
She hated Harper, wished Harper would just disappear. This was all Harper's fault.
"Get out too!"
Alex said coldly.
Naturally, Emily didn't dare argue with him. She gave him a resentful look and left sullenly.
Having seen enough, Harper was about to leave too, but he stopped her.
"Harper!"
Harper paused, looking at him with a cold gaze.
"Did you send Kaitlyn over here?"
Alex scrutinized her, watching her expression.
How did Kaitlyn suddenly show up here? He wanted to know if Harper had anything to do with it.
Harper laughed.
She looked at him steadily, her eyes flashing with a strange mockery.
"Do you think this has anything to do with me?"
Alex neither confirmed nor denied it.
Kaitlyn and Harper were close. Harper had told Kaitlyn about the divorce, so Kaitlyn came over to help humiliate Emily. That was a possibility.
Harper said coldly, "You're upset because Kaitlyn hit your lover, and you think I orchestrated it."
She stared at him, speaking slowly, "Mr. Lavien, even if I did, what would you do? Would you say Kaitlyn was wrong?"
They divorced because of Emily, the illegitimate daughter. Did Kaitlyn say anything untrue?
"Emily got what was coming to her! She schemed for all this, not for you, but for herself. She wants to take everything that's mine. So, I don't feel sorry for her at all."
Her eyes were calm, almost emotionless, and her tone was indifferent.
Why should she feel sorry for someone like Emily?
"Besides, if I really wanted to humiliate her, I'd do it myself, not have someone else do it."
With that, Harper didn't spare him another glance and walked out.
Pushing open the office door, Harper saw Kaitlyn sitting on the couch. She hadn't left but was waiting for Harper to return.
Things had happened too suddenly. In the CEO's office earlier, she hadn't figured it out. Now she wanted to ask Harper what exactly had happened between them.
"Harper, is what Emily said true?"
She looked at Harper expectantly, hoping it was all just a farce.
Harper didn't answer her. Instead, she poured a cup of coffee and placed it in front of her.
Kaitlyn, still fuming, drank it all in one gulp.
Harper leaned against the desk, pursed her lips, and sighed softly.
"Kaitlyn, don't bother with Emily anymore, and don't hit her."
Kaitlyn looked shocked.
"Harper, are you defending her? She's the bad one, she ruined your marriage with my brother. I hate women like her the most."
Harper smiled wryly, "Kaitlyn, our marriage was problematic from the start. I admit, I loved your brother, really loved him. My biggest wish was to marry him and stand by his side for life. I got my wish, and I thought I could make him love me through my efforts."
She lowered her eyes, her voice heavy. The light hit her face, casting layers of halos, inexplicably tinged with a melancholic sadness.
It was the first time Kaitlyn had seen her show such an expression. In Kaitlyn's impression, Harper was always cheerful and bright. Harper was smart, capable, beautiful, and handled everything gracefully, without a single flaw, almost perfect.
How could a woman like Harper feel desolate?
"But Kaitlyn, I was wrong. Love isn't something you can get just by trying. I have to admit, your brother doesn't love me!"
She still smiled, as if talking about something irrelevant to her.
"Harper!"
Kaitlyn called softly.
Suddenly, Kaitlyn felt a pang of heartache for her.
Harper's smile grew more unrestrained, her eyes sparkling with a clear light.
"Don't look at me like that. Actually, it's fine. At least now I've let go of that love and no longer dwell on it. So Kaitlyn, even if Emily hadn't appeared, someone else would have."
Emily was certainly scheming, but how could Alex be so easily deceived by her?
Ultimately, Alex's heart wasn't with Harper.
"Kaitlyn, I've let go of that love and started a new life, so don't worry about me and your brother anymore. We're adults, we know what we're doing."
Kaitlyn's heart sank. She had wanted to persuade Harper, but now it seemed Harper had already given up.
"My brother will regret it! Where will he find someone as good as you?"
Kaitlyn said softly.
Harper walked over and gently patted her shoulder, "Kaitlyn, let it be. Some things can't be forced, we can only go with the flow."
