No Wife, No Life Chapter 237
Harper didn't look back, her steps steady as she walked away.
Watching her retreating figure, Lucas asked curiously, "Noah, do you believe Harper will be capable of rescuing the Wood Company and FusionX Company this time?"
Noah took a thoughtful sip of his vodka before replying slowly, "The Wood Company's assets are going up for auction in three days. If Harper can gather enough funds by then, she might have a shot at competing with me."
Setting down his glass, he smacked his lips and chuckled, "This vodka's really good. Too bad she didn't taste."
"Three days?" Lucas exhaled deeply. "It was impossible for her to accumulate such a vast amount of liquid capital."
For some reason, his tone carried a hint of worry.
Shouldn't he be rooting for Noah's plan? Why was he worried about Harper?
He knew Noah's methods well. Noah had deliberately chosen this time to go after the Wood Company.
After all, he knew FusionX had just started a bunch of new projects and probably didn't have much liquid capital.
Still, Noah was a bit concerned. FusionX might be short on funds, but Harper also had HoloSphere Technologies. So, it was hard to say who would win the Wood Company auction in three days.
After leaving the Sapphire Dining Room, Harper headed straight back to her apartment. Caden wasn't there; he was probably still at FusionX.
Lately, she had started feeling that the room was empty without him.
Unable to resist, Harper sent Caden a message: [I miss you.]
He didn't reply right away.
He usually responded immediately. He must be busy.
A few more minutes passed, and there was still no reply.
Harper decided to call him directly. "Why didn't you reply?"
Caden answered quickly, his voice echoing slightly as if he were in a stairwell. "I'm waiting."
Harper asked, "Waiting for what?"
"Waiting for you to open the door."
Harper's eyes lit up. She jumped off the couch and ran to the door, finding Caden holding a bouquet of roses in one hand and his phone in the other.
Caden handed her the flowers. "I saw some students selling these on the street. Looked like they were working part-time, and I thought you'd like the flowers, so I bought them all."
"Yeah, I really like it."
Harper took the flowers from him, inhaling their scent with a smile on her face.
Caden retrieved matching couples' slippers from the shoe cabinet and was about to say something when he noticed Harper had already departed with the flowers in search of a vase.
Caden maneuvered his wheelchair, leisurely following behind Harper. As she searched for the perfect angle to photograph the flowers, he sat there, observing her quietly.
When Harper finished, she put her phone away, and Caden reached out to hold her hand.
Caught off guard, Harper fell into his lap.
They were so close and they could smell each other's scent.
"What are you doing?"
Harper glanced at him, only to be caught by his gaze.
Caden looked down, his gaze suggestive. "Didn't you say you missed me?"
'So that's what he's thinking about?' Harper couldn't help but smile and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"That's it?" Caden asked, a bit dissatisfied.
Harper asked, "What do you mean?"
"Nothing."
Caden reached out and ruffled her hair, then leaned in to kiss her gently but deeply.
"I just posted something." He mentioned it casually.
When she was looking for the vase? Harper paused, then checked her phone and logged into Facebook.
She saw Caden's post: [I miss you, too.] Harper smiled, set her phone aside, and snuggled into his arms.
"What did the doctor say at your check-up today?"
Caden's face darkened.
This was the third medical team Harper had arranged for him.
Harper could feel his heart beating faster than usual. He seemed scared, anxious.
"Caden, am I making you uneasy?" She asked softly.
Caden held her tighter. "It's my fault."
"Is it?" She didn't understand what he meant.
He paused, his tone heavy. "Yeah, I'm afraid you won't be happy."
"I keep thinking, what if my legs never heal? I feel like I can't give you more."
Harper lay in Caden's arms, listening to her own heartbeat.
She realized life was a symphony of two different heartbeats, both essential.
Harper felt a pang of sadness.
In her memory, Caden had always been so proud. Now, because of her, he seemed inferior. Harper reached out and held his ear. "Caden."
"Don't overthink it. Even if your legs don't heal, you still have me. I promised I'd help you stand again."
Caden frowned slightly. Harper leaned in to kiss him.
She knew why he felt insecure.
There were many outstanding men around her, and it was inevitable that she would interact with them. She loved Caden, but she wouldn't give up her life and career for him. She needed to boost Caden's morale, reignite his self-worth, and restore his previously abundant confidence.
"I think we need to make love more often. That way, you'll behave."
Harper teased, leaning in slowly.
...
They slept well that night.
When Harper woke up, Caden was already awake, reviewing documents related to FusionX Company and the Wood Company.
FusionX Company had too little liquid capital this time, and the Wright Group might manage to seize the Wood Company. The Wright Group was well-prepared, so he couldn't put all the pressure on Harper.
Harper had a lot on her plate and hadn't yet discussed her meeting with Noah the previous day with Caden.
She got up and saw breakfast from the Sapphire Dining Room on the table, so she ate a few bites.
After breakfast, Harper brought up yesterday's events.
"Noah won't reveal all his cards. We don't know how much capital he has behind him."
Harper contemplated thoughtfully, analyzing as she added.
"Merely assessing his network of connections and financial flows could not possibly achieve such a level of precision, and would likely result in discrepancies. This is evident by the fact that, to this day, some individuals have yet to deduce that I am the CEO behind HoloSphere Technologies."
"So, we can't reveal our cards now. Otherwise, we won't know what tactics Noah and Chloe will use against us."
"I think the best approach now is to attract investment and gather funds, to make the Wright family lower their guard."
Caden nodded. His thoughts aligned with Harper's.
He continued to work diligently.
These days, she often saw him looking troubled.
"Take a break. You don't have to push yourself so hard."
She couldn't understand why Caden was working so hard when he already had her. He was injured and should be resting, since she was managing the company.
