No Wife, No Life Chapter 140
Harper hadn't even opened her mouth when she heard the sound of steady footsteps behind her.
A clear voice followed, "Well, that's a bummer. We're here for the financial summit too, so Harper can't join you tonight."
It was Caden, with Ronald and the others trailing behind him.
Their private rooms were close enough that they must have heard the commotion in the hallway.
Now that Harper was Caden's girlfriend, it was a bit much for the Lavien Group to try and get her back to work for them.
As for Arthur, even though he didn't like Harper, they were on the same team now, so he couldn't let the Lavien Group have the upper hand.
He stood there, expressionless, looking cold and dangerous.
"Ms. Orsini is now Caden's fiancée, which means she's with the Elikin Group. While our companies aren't enemies, the financial summit is coming up. What if we end up competing for the same project? I think it's best to skip the dinner."
Ronald was more direct. "Are all of Mr. Lavien's friends this shameless?"
He grinned mischievously, exuding a playboy vibe.
"Harper is now Caden's fiancée and my sister-in-law. What business do you have summoning her to your place so late at night? It seems to me that you merely want to pair her with Alex."
He glanced at the slightly tipsy Alex and sneered, "Looks like Mr. Lavien is drunk. Are you expecting my sister-in-law to take him home? And then..."
He paused, a hint of amusement in his expression, "We all know what you're thinking. No need to spell it out."
The room fell silent.
Charles, seeing his brother's lack of tact, took a deep breath and scolded with a smile, "Shut up."
Quinn chuckled softly, trying to smooth things over, "Mr. Ronald Johnson must be overthinking. Even though Harper left the Lavien Group, we're still friends. If she doesn't want to, we won't force her."
Quinn was indeed skilled, speaking so diplomatically.
After all, Harper hadn't responded yet, but Caden and his group had already turned down the invitation on her behalf.
Besides, if Harper wanted to take Alex home, it would be her choice; no one would force her.
Everyone present was smart enough to catch the underlying meaning.
The individuals present, each a distinguished business elite, possessed the acumen to create significant upheaval in the industry.
Even the most exclusive events in Majestic City might not gather such a group, yet here they all were at the Sapphire Dining Room, a rare occurrence.
From a distance, some had already noticed the two groups at the restroom entrance, seemingly in a standoff yet conversing jovially, with Harper encircled at the center.
Because of Harper. No wonder these people were here. The Lavien Group and the Elikin Group were vying for Harper.
Some even took out their phones to record the scene.
Caden noticed this and quickly stepped in front of Harper, shielding her.
"Harper, do you want to have dinner with Mr. Stewart?" Caden asked bluntly.
Quinn had mentioned they hadn't asked Harper, so now he needed to inquire about Harper's opinion.
All eyes turned to Harper, waiting for her answer.
Harper didn't hesitate, a familiar light smile on her lips. "What's the fun in dining alone? Since everyone's here, why not all join in?" Her eyes sparkled, her smile full of meaning.
"Travis, you seem to get along well with Mr. Davis's secretary. Mr. Stewart, you and Mr. Charles Johnson's assistant seem to work well together. As for Frank..."
She raised an eyebrow at Ronald and smiled, "I think Mr. Ronald Johnson would be a good match. You all have a chance to chat and bond."
Suddenly, the room fell silent.
Travis and Arthur's secretary were arch-rivals.
Quinn and Charles's assistant had had several unpleasant collaborations.
As for Frank, he had always harbored a disliking for Ronald.
Clearly, Harper was setting the stage for some drama.
"As for Mr. Lavien, you and Mr. Davis should have plenty to talk about."
Her tone was calm; it provoked everyone present, except Caden.
Caden was the only one favored among them.
Caden's smile grew more smug, feeling distinctly favored.
But his smugness didn't last long. He soon realized everyone was glaring at him.
Sensing trouble, he was quickly surrounded.
"I heard Mr. Elikin pursued a famous actress abroad, right?"
"Yeah, I remember he spent a fortune on her."
"Not just her, there was also a wealthy heiress."
"And a royal princess."
Everyone started airing Caden's dirty laundry, leaving him no escape.
Caden felt uncomfortable. These people were too much, trying to ruin his relationship with Harper.
But Harper's expression remained calm, even smiling at the lively parts.
"Since everyone is so in sync, we definitely need to have dinner together."
With that, no one had a reason to refuse, so they reluctantly gathered in one room.
Meanwhile, Emily, who had been disregarded, was completely forgotten.
The onlookers were confused.
"What's going on? Who won?"
"Why are they all going in together?"
"Won't they start fighting inside?"
Inside, the atmosphere was just as awkward.
The group sat together, creating a scene that was nothing short of bizarre.
Harper seemed unfazed, sipping her juice on the couch.
Caden sat beside her, trying to please, "Why didn't you ask about what they said?"
Harper looked at him, took a sip of her juice, and calmly replied, "Since they brought it up, shouldn't you explain it yourself?"
Caden held her hand without hesitation, speaking softly, "That actress was arranged by my father. I had to put on a show. As for the heiress and the princess, it was the same. I had nothing with them."
He looked at Harper with deep affection, as if trying to imprint her in his heart, "Look into my sincere eyes, and you'll see that you're the only one in my heart."
His tone was much more serious than usual.
