No Wife, No Life Chapter 72

Harper picked up the phone on her desk and called security downstairs.

"Hey, can you come up to my office? We've got a situation here."

Her voice was cold as ice.

After making the call, she didn't even glance at Emily, diving back into her work as if Emily wasn't even there.

Emily was fuming, her face red and her chest heaving with anger.

"I am Mr. Lavien's chief secretary!"

She practically screamed, her frustration boiling over.

Harper didn't react at all, not even a flicker of acknowledgment.

Emily felt like a fool, putting on a show for an audience of one—herself.

The worst insult wasn't a powerful enemy, but someone who didn't even recognize your existence. That kind of disdain, full of contempt, was contempt that went deep into the bone marrow.

Emily nearly lunged forward, slamming her hand on Harper's desk.

The loud bang echoed through the room.

Harper looked up, her eyes filled with contempt.

"Emily, have you lost your mind?"

How could Emily be so irrational?

"Harper, believe me, I can get even crazier. I'll drag you down with me if I have to."

She was practically snarling.

Why was Harper always so confident?

Emily had tried everything to make Harper suffer—stealing her father, her position as chief secretary, even her beloved Alex.

But Harper remained unfazed, seemingly happier than ever.

Without Alex, there was always another admirer like Caden by her side.

Travis, Frank, even the spoiled Kaitlyn from the Lavien family sided with her. It was as if Harper was born to be everyone's favorite.

This filled Emily with intense jealousy.

She envied everything Harper had.

Suddenly, Harper stood up, looking down at Emily with a cold, superior gaze.

"Do you really think I care about what you say? No, I don't. Because no one cares about a mad dog."

To Harper, Emily was just a barking mad dog, not worth her concern.

Emily's face turned even more ashen. She clenched her fists so tightly her nails dug into her palms.

"Who are you calling a mad dog? You're the mad dog!"

Emily had completely lost control. Her true, vicious nature was exposed, no longer hidden behind a facade.

She was uncouth, like a shrew from the countryside.

Harper sneered, her expression indifferent.

At that moment, two security guards knocked and entered.

Harper glanced at Emily and said calmly, "Take her out."

"Who dares touch me? I'm Mr. Lavien's chief secretary."

Harper ignored her, sitting back down to continue her work.

The two security guards looked at Emily and politely said, "Ms. Orsini, please."

Despite their words, they forcefully escorted her out.

Though she was Alex's secretary, everyone in the company knew she did nothing and was just a figurehead.

Harper was different. She was truly capable, handling many of the company's important deals, earning the employees' respect.

As the workday ended, the sky grew darker, signaling an impending storm.

Harper put away her documents, changed her clothes, and left her office.

"Ms. Orsini, it looks like it's going to rain."

An employee walked by and reminded her.

Harper nodded slightly. "Got it, thanks."

She thought she should grab an umbrella since she was heading to the Lavien Mansion.

Harper went back to her office to grab an umbrella.

Just as she was about to leave, she heard Alex's voice at the door.

"Let's head out together."

Harper turned to see him standing there, hands in his suit pockets, exuding a cold aura.

She nodded slightly and walked out.

As usual, Alex walked ahead, and Harper followed closely behind.

Coincidentally, the elevator doors opened just as they arrived.

Neither of them spoke as they entered the elevator one after the other.

Just as the doors were about to close, hurried footsteps approached.

"Hold the elevator!"

Hearing the voice, Harper's lips curled into a barely concealed sneer.

A hand stopped the closing elevator doors.

Her nails were long, with delicate yellow butterfly designs, making her fingers look elegant and slender.

"Alex!"

Emily's eyes lit up with surprise as if she had just seen him.

"It looks like it's going to rain. How about we grab dinner before heading back?"

Her voice was soft and sweet, reverting to a shy, girlish tone.

"A new restaurant just opened nearby. I heard the food is great. Alex, let's go try it together, okay?"

She walked over, gently tugging on Alex's sleeve, looking up at him with a sweet, pleading expression.

Harper's gaze turned cold, and she looked away.

"I have plans tonight."

Alex's tone was indifferent.

Emily glanced at Harper beside him and pouted. "Are you going with Harper?"

Alex nodded slightly.

"But it's about to rain. Where are you going, Alex?"

She pressed on, unwilling to give up.

They were divorced, so why were they always together?

Summit Heights High's rally, Alex went with her.

Radiant University's anniversary, they attended together.

Emily hated these occurrences, truly hated them.

She had fought so hard to get in, only to find Alex's heart was still elsewhere, not with her.

This realization terrified her. She was genuinely afraid Alex and Harper would rekindle their old flame.

"That's none of your business."

Alex's voice was cold.

The family dinner at the Lavien Mansion was arranged by Holden, so he couldn't bring Emily along.

Their relationship wasn't public yet.

If it were, Holden would be the first to oppose it.

A prestigious family like the Laviens wouldn't accept a woman of ordinary background as a daughter-in-law.

Even Harper wasn't the best candidate for the Lavien family initially. The Orsini family was still inferior to the Laviens.

But Harper was highly capable and had a great personality, and Holden liked her a lot, so he insisted on bringing her into the Lavien family.

Compared to Harper, Emily had almost no chance of being accepted by the Laviens.

She was an illegitimate daughter of the Orsini family, without substantial financial backing.

Not only would Holden disapprove, but the rest of the Lavien family would also reject her.

The Lavien family wouldn't accept a woman of her status.

Emily's eyes reddened, and she let go of his sleeve, looking down in sorrow.

The elevator doors opened.

Alex stepped out first.

"I'll get the car."

He said to Harper before walking away.

Harper didn't spare Emily a glance as she exited the elevator.

Emily glared at her retreating figure, her eyes burning with rage.

'Harper, just wait. I'll make sure you're kicked out of the Lavien Group.' Emily thought.
