No Wife, No Life Chapter 111
Quinn didn't flinch. Instead, he shot back, "Now that she had departed the Lavien Group to honor her contract with Luminary Innovations Inc., it became clear that this particular trouble should never have crossed Lavien's threshold in the first place."
He didn't care about Emily's status.
After all, he was different from Travis. He held shares in the Lavien Group and had grown up in the Lavien Mansion. He was like family to Alex. If there was something Travis couldn't say, he could.
Emily was on the verge of tears.
If Alex didn't help her, she was truly finished.
At that moment, Alex glanced at Emily and finally spoke, "Quinn, step out. I want to hear what she has to say."
Quinn nodded slightly, turned, and left without even a glance back at her, completely indifferent.
The door closed behind him.
The study fell silent.
Alex didn't pay her any attention, calmly flipping through a document on his desk.
Emily felt uneasy.
How should she say?
But she knew this was her only chance.
After a moment, she snapped out of it and rushed to his desk, leaning over it with both hands, her body pressing against the surface.
Today, she wore a dress with a deep neckline.
In this position, Alex could see her breast without even lifting his head.
Her skin was smooth and radiant.
Alex looked away, his voice cold. "Alright, what do you want to say?"
Seeing him avoid her gaze, Emily blushed slightly and said, "Alex, can I come back to the Lavien Group?"
She continued in her usual soft, pleading tone, "I know I messed up this time. Luminary Innovations Inc. set a trap for the Lavien Group. They never intended to cooperate with us."
Now she understood everything. Luminary Innovations Inc. had crafted a scheme for her, and she had fallen for it.
At this point, she could only beg Alex to give her another chance, to let her return to the Lavien Group.
At least she could still have the title of a secretary at the Lavien Group. Without it, she was nobody.
This way, she could salvage her reputation.
To outsiders, it would seem like the Lavien Group never intended to cooperate with Luminary Innovations Inc., and firing Emily was just a ploy to deceive the other company—a pure business strategy.
"Alex, please help me. I know I was wrong." She grabbed Alex's hand, her face full of pleading.
"The rival company is about to reveal that the contract was a scam. If the Lavien Group doesn't take me back, I won't be able to find a job anywhere else. Alex, you're my only hope. Please help me."
Her eyes filled with tears, making her look pitiful and heart-wrenching to anyone who saw her.
Her tears fell one by one onto the desk.
Of course, she was acting. She wanted to see if Alex would soften. It had worked before, and she hoped it would work now.
She was beautiful, and her appearance bore a slight resemblance to Harper.
Alex's eyes flickered, and he felt a moment of confusion, seeing Harper's tear-streaked face in his mind.
Harper had cried in front of him like this before, but her eyes had been cold.
A deep sense of bitterness filled Alex's heart.
He softened and said, "Alright, you can return to the Lavien Group today, in the same position."
"But from now on, stay out of anything related to partnerships. Don't go near the project department. I'll have the PR department set up some accounts for you. Just focus on spreading rumors online."
That job suited her better.
To the outside world, it would just seem like the Lavien Group and the rival company were engaged in business competition.
In the end, he had resolved the issue for her.
He couldn't bear to see her cry and didn't want her to suffer any more.
He wasn't sure what he felt.
Was it sympathy, pity, or love?
Emily immediately stopped crying, her tear-streaked face breaking into a happy smile.
She shook Alex's hand gently, continuing to act coy, "Alex, I knew you were the best."
Alex pulled his hand back, his expression still cold.
Emily paused but then moved closer, pressing herself against Alex.
Her breast pressed against his, soft and fragrant, with a strong perfume that made his head spin.
She looked up, closed her eyes, and leaned in to kiss him.
She wanted to seduce him.
But Alex pushed her away. "It's almost time for work. Get ready. I have a meeting."
He rejected her kiss without hesitation.
Emily felt a chill in her heart, as if something had pierced her.
But she still responded softly and then left the study.
After she left, Alex picked up his phone.
His gaze fell once more on the beautiful face in the night, and the bitterness in his heart surged again.
Alex doubted, 'Was letting Harper go really the right choice?''
Leaving the study, Emily walked through the living room and spotted Quinn sitting on the couch.
She felt a bit guilty and tried to sneak out quietly, but Quinn's cold voice stopped her.
"Looks like you got what you wanted." Quinn spoke lightly, "So, Alex let you return to the Lavien Group?"
Emily's body stiffened. She lowered her eyes and said softly, "What does Mr. Stewart want to say?"
She didn't directly answer his question, feeling a lack of confidence.
Quinn's gaze was cold, "Do you know what people regard me, Travis, and Harper? We're the crucial triangle of the Lavien Group."
His eyes were sharp. "Do you think you can push Harper out and take her place? If that were true, would the principle of the triangle being the most stable shape still hold?"
His tone was icy, full of sarcasm and disdain.
Emily's face turned even redder, "I never wanted to ruin your relationship. Harper is still at the Lavien Group. She's still Alex's assistant."
Quinn's voice grew colder, like ice.
"When Harper was a secretary, she could handle all kinds of complex contracts on the top floor. Do you have that ability? How many languages do you speak? Can you negotiate?"
He was relentless, not caring about her dignity.
Emily's mind went blank. She had no way to answer his questions.
She knew she didn't have those skills.
Quinn, to stand up for Harper, was humiliating her directly.
But she had no way to argue.
She stumbled, almost fleeing in panic.
Watching her hurried departure, Quinn made no effort to hide the disdain in his eyes.
He didn't lack sympathy for her. She was indeed beautiful, but she was useless. He simply couldn't bring himself to respect her.
She was nothing compared to Harper.
