No Wife, No Life Chapter 94
However, Harper's eyes were filled with sorrow.
A bitter feeling spread densely in her chest, and her throat felt like it was blocked by something.
"Alex, do you really think I'm that cheap?"
She looked at him calmly, without much emotion, even with a slight smile on her lips, though it seemed somewhat bitter.
"Five years of marriage, we've been through a lot together. Don't you know what kind of person I am? Do you really think I schemed against you?"
Alex's eyes were dim, but he remained silent.
"The drug in your drink that night wasn't from me, so I was a victim too. I admit I liked you, and I wanted to marry you, but I wanted to do it openly, not through such despicable means. You should know I'm not that kind of person."
"If you have doubts, you can find out what really happened that day."
Five years ago, that night at the party was utter chaos.
The truth was, Alex had barged into her room and raped her, not that she had drugged him on purpose to seduce him, leading to their subsequent marriage.
"Alex, I've never hurt you."
She looked at him, her eyes cold and filled with sorrow.
"My love isn't a reason for you to hurt me. Why do you keep hurting me over and over again?"
He didn't have to love her, but why did he have to cruelly torment her heart?
Harper clenched her hands tightly, her face pale, lips pressed together.
"If I had the chance to choose again, I wouldn't have gone to that party that night, and I wouldn't have married you."
She spoke slowly, as if those words had taken five long years to come out.
"I've already given up my place as your wife, so you should let me go."
At this moment, she looked up, staring into his eyes, emphasizing each word, "Alex, I don't love you anymore. Let me go."
Her words made Alex heart tighten.
He clearly felt an emptiness inside, as if he had lost something very important.
The things he had said before were definitely not his true feelings.
He was simply consumed by an overwhelming jealousy, which prompted him to utter those hurtful words in an attempt to provoke Caden.
For the first time in a long time, he had lost control, and it was because of Harper.
He hadn't expected that those words would ultimately be heard by Harper, and that they would hurt her so deeply.
"Sorry." Alex said it with difficulty, as if the word was squeezed out of his throat.
Harper still stood there, visibly stunned by his words, then she lowered her head and let out a light laugh.
"I won't say it's okay."
She took a few steps back, her tone light. "Because you really hurt me."
With that, she pulled her coat tighter around her and turned to leave quickly.
Her steps were fast, and she was soon far away.
Caden, worried she might get hurt, quickly chased after her.
Alex watched their departing figures with red eyes, his gaze grim.
He knew that after saying those words, Harper might really belong to Caden now.
But what could he do? It was all his own doing.
He brushed his fingers over his lips where he had kissed Harper, as if he could still feel her warmth there.
He slowly sat by the edge of the pool, lowering his gaze to the spring where lay a single pearl earring. This must have fallen during her earlier struggle.
He picked up the earring, clutching it tightly in his hand, as if trying to hold onto something.
Meanwhile, everything that had just happened was clearly seen by Emily, hiding in the corner.
Two tycoons, each capable of influencing the entire economic lifeline of Majestic City, had just come to blows over a single woman—Harper.
Why both they cared about Harper?
Emily could see the undeniable love in both men's eyes.
She was sure they both loved Harper.
Realizing this made her even angrier.
Emily's face darkened, her eyes flashing with coldness.
She hated Harper even more, and she was determined to ruin her.
Harper's steps were quick, almost running, and Caden quickly caught up, grabbing her wrist.
He was really worried she might fall.
"Harper, slow down! Why are you running so fast?"
Harper lowered her head, her bangs covering her eyes.
Caden cupped her face, forcing her to look up.
Her face was covered in tears, continuously falling, her eyes red and swollen.
She was crying.
She had been crying since she heard Alex's words.
It was as if she was pouring out five years of love.
She certainly didn't want anyone to see her in this state; it made her appear utterly helpless. Yet, she simply couldn't restrain herself.
"Are you crying for him?" Caden brushed her bangs aside, wiping away her tears.
At this moment, she looked even more pitiful, completely different from the composed Harper he usually saw.
The Harper at work was sharp and capable, cold and steady, but the Harper in front of him was soft and tender, making him want to protect her.
Harper asked, "Do I look useless like this?"
In this relationship, she had lost completely.
It was said that the one who fell in love first always got hurt the most, and now, she had completely lost to Alex.
"Why would you be useless?" He looked at her.
"Feelings are never about right or wrong. You liked him, you gave your heart and you pursued what you wanted. Even if the result wasn't what you hoped for, at least you tried. Doesn't that make you cool?"
His tone was gentle, like a spring breeze.
He took a deep breath, a bit helpless. "But from now on, I don't want you to shed another tear for another man, not a single one."
She belonged to him, now and forever, even her tears were his.
Of course, he would rather she never cried again.
"I want you to smile happily every day."
Caden lifted her chin, wiping away her last tear. "I love your smile the most. Although you're cute like this, you're even more beautiful when you smile."
She looked up at him, seeing a small reflection of herself in his eyes.
"Harper, promise me, okay?" His eyes were bright, almost hypnotic as he asked her.
Harper nodded, giving him a radiant smile.
She would never cry for Alex again.
From now on, she cared only for Caden.
