No Wife, No Life Chapter 227
Harper's voice was steady. "On the day FusionX Company acquired Luminary Innovations Inc., you were present at the scene, right? You should have observed Caden standing by my side. Does this not adequately convey my meaning to you?"
"Caden's the only one who'll ever be by my side. No one else."
Her tone turned icy. "But that's not why I'm here. I'm here because of Travis."
"Do you know what's going on with him?"
Alex stayed silent. What could he say? There was no way to explain.
Harper's smile grew even colder.
"Alex, you're something else. You can hurt your ex-wife for some jerk, and then hurt your friends and subordinates for him."
She stared at him, emphasizing each word. "So, how did I ever like someone as hypocritical as you? Thinking back, you really make me sick."
"Since that's the case, I will definitely stop you!"
She had come to the Lavien Group to confirm the facts.
Alex said nothing, but the truth was already clear.
He knew everything. He had just chosen to turn a blind eye.
With that, Harper turned and left without hesitation.
The Lavien Group was beyond saving. Now, she had to find a way to bring the company down completely.
After Harper left, Emily emerged from the corner, a cold smile on her lips.
She walked back to her office. Her assistant rushed in, excitedly saying, "Ms. Orsini, the news about Travis has hit the headlines. Everyone is demanding a quick trial for him."
In just half a day, the situation with Travis had blown up.
But no one expected the headline news to be pushed by Emily, not the Lavien Group.
So what if Travis had Harper's support? He was still in police custody.
Thinking about it, Emily smiled smugly. "Since Travis did something against the Lavien Group, he must be punished."
The assistant quickly agreed and then left.
As soon as the assistant left, Emily opened her computer to check the headlines, but the office door was suddenly kicked open.
Kaitlyn stormed in, her face dark with anger.
Emily was clearly startled. She looked up to see Kaitlyn's disgusted expression.
Emily's smile faltered.
She was genuinely afraid of this spoiled Lavien family heiress.
Mark followed Kaitlyn in. He was impeccably dressed, handsome, but with a cold and dangerous aura.
He looked at Emily and gave a slight nod in greeting.
Kaitlyn was fuming.
Kaithlyn thought, 'Who does Emily think she is? Why should I meet her?"
However, she found herself unable to resist Mark's persuasion, who had suggested they would merely extend a courteous greeting to Emily before taking their leave.
Why should she say hello to someone like Emily?
"Alright, we've seen her. Let's go." Kaitlyn said angrily.
Mark was exasperated but had no choice but to agree.
At that moment, Emily, oblivious to the tension, asked, "Mark, won't you stay for a bit? I have some excellent coffee. Have a cup before you go?"
She used her usual coquettish tone.
Kaitlyn, who was about to leave, turned around and glared at Emily, her voice icy. "Spare us the act. The way you talk makes me sick."
Emily lowered her gaze, her hands clenched tightly.
Mark frowned. "Kaitlyn."
Mark knew Kaitlyn couldn't stand Emily. But they needed Emily's help, so he didn't want to make things worse.
Kaitlyn felt even more upset. "Mark, I simply cannot stand the sight of her.”
Emily's face turned pale.
To be honest, Emily had some feelings for Mark.
No matter what, Alex would never marry her. She still hoped to marry into the Lavien family.
Mark had approached her first. She thought, ‘Even if Alex doesn’t plan to marry me, Mark can marry me.’
But she didn't expect Kaitlyn to humiliate her as soon as she spoke.
Her cheeks burned with embarrassment.
Mark persuaded Kaitlyn to leave first, saying he would talk to Emily and then catch up.
Kaitlyn shot Emily a cold, disdainful look before leaving.
Once she was gone, Emily lowered her head and said softly, "She still doesn't recognize that I'm on your side, does she?"
Weren't they supposed to be working together against Harper?
She looked pitiful, as if she had suffered endless grievances.
But Mark's expression remained unchanged, his tone cold. "Emily, there's no need to act in front of me. You know who you are. Don’t try to be close to me. I'm not interested."
He was blunt and straightforward.
Emily said nothing, her fists clenched tighter, a flash of anger in her eyes.
After a moment, she forced a stiff smile. "I didn't mean anything by it. I just wanted to get along better with you all."
Mark stared at her for a few seconds before speaking coldly. "There's no need. I told you, you'll be rewarded for helping us. Don't think about anything else."
He rejected her outright.
With that, Mark turned and left。
Emily stared at her computer, her emotions in turmoil.
Previously, when Mark had asked her for confidential information about the Lavien Group, she had hesitated, not wanting to betray Alex.
In her heart, Alex was still the man she had loved, so she didn't want to do it. But now, she had made up her mind. Now, however, she had come to a resolution; she would destroy the Lavien Group at all costs, preferably facilitating a change in presidency within the organization.
Initially, she had set her sights on Mark. He was handsome and just as capable as Alex.
But she hadn't expected Mark to care only about his sister, Kaitlyn.
That bitch Kaitlyn. Emily still remembered how Kaitlyn had humiliated her, mocking her as an illegitimate child for Harper's sake.
Why should Kaitlyn get to be with Mark? Even if they weren't related by blood, they were still siblings.
Even if she couldn't have Mark, she wouldn't let Kaitlyn have him either.
Since she had no other options, she had to bet on Mark. So, she would be the only one to marry Mark, not Kaitlyn.
Emily gripped her pen tightly, her eyes filled with determination.
Meanwhile, Harper was contacting Peyton to check the Lavien Group's financial records from the past few years, but all the documents had been destroyed.
Without records, she couldn't prove Travis's innocence, and she couldn't get him out of police custody. So, she had to find another way to save Travis.
She had made up her mind. No matter the cost, she would rescue Travis.
