No Wife, No Life Chapter 174

The grand doors opened, and at the forefront walked a strikingly beautiful woman. Following close behind her were two tall and handsome men, one on each side, like guardians. Behind them trailed an unending line of guards.

The Millers' faces turned pale.

The uniforms of those guards clearly indicated their high status. Yet now, they followed behind Harper, entirely obeying her commands. It seemed Harper had made some significant exchange with them.

Walter nearly fainted, struggling to catch his breath.

He had always remarked that Harper was just as mad as Alvina.

The Robinson family was one of the most prestigious families in the country. No one would dare to storm in so recklessly without considering the consequences.

However, Harper boldly barged in with these people.

What gave her the right?

As everyone stood in stunned silence, Harper found Caden.

She couldn't hold back the tears that welled up in her eyes. Fighting to keep them from falling, she walked step by step towards him.

"Caden, I'm here to take you home."

She knelt, her whole body trembling, and took his injured hand in hers, her voice hoarse.

"Harper, you're such a fool!" Caden looked at her.

He understood that Harper must have paid a high price for this.

What had Harper sacrificed to bring these guards to surround the Miller Manor?

"I'm smart enough to never get the short end of the stick. It was just a fair trade."

Harper paused, her eyes fixed on Caden, and said softly, "Compared to you, those things mean nothing."

Just then, Harper caught sight of Alvina on the screen.

She hesitated for a moment, then smiled and greeted, "Ms. Taylor, long time no see."

Her voice was calm, devoid of much emotion.

Through the screen, Alvina saw the grown-up Harper for the first time.

Alvina looked at her, seeing a reflection of her younger self.

They looked remarkably similar, yet their auras were completely different.

Alvina said, "You do look a lot like me."

There was a hint of admiration in her eyes.

"Besides our looks, what else do you think we have in common, Ms. Taylor?" Harper's gaze was cold, her eyes indifferent.

To her, Alvina was just a stranger.

"Devoted to your beloved, am I not the same?"

Harper chuckled, her smile tinged with sarcasm. "No, I value not just love, but also friendship and family. If I were you, I could never abandon my own children."

She was mocking Alvina.

Alvina smiled lightly, seemingly unbothered.

"But you couldn't save your child, could you?"

"Thus, it appears you resemble me, yet you fall short. At the very least, I can ensure the safety and upbringing of my own children, whereas you lack such capability."

"You can't even protect your own child. Harper, you're truly useless."

Harper's words were meant to sting, and Alvina responded by bringing insult to Harper's injury.

Harper stated, "So, you knew everything."

Alvina knew everything happening back home despite being abroad.

She even knew about Harper's pregnancy, so naturally, she knew about Dennis's fate too.

How did she feel watching them being pushed to the brink time and again? Harper's face darkened.

Alvina's gaze remained calm. "Harper, what does that child matter? It was Alex's child, never meant to be born into this world. You and Caden will have many children of your own. Why care about a child that wasn't meant to be yours?"

Her tone was so detached as if it wasn't life but a mere toy. It was not worth grieving over.

"You are terrifying." Harper pressed her lips together and continued, "Actually, there's no real connection between us."

"My mother died over a decade ago. She was driven to suicide by my father. My mother wasn't someone to be feared; she was just a weak woman who couldn't even protect her own child."

She spoke slowly, ensuring Alvina heard every word clearly.

Alvina didn't get angry, instead, she laughed softly and spoke gently, "Harper, your excellent genes come from me, and that's an undeniable fact."

"Whether I'm alive or dead, you are my daughter."

For her entire life, Harper would always be Alvina's daughter.

She could never escape it.

Harper said, "Well, thank you, Ms. Taylor, for such excellent genes. Since that's the case, I've donated all the manuscripts you left me to the government. I'm sure you won't mind."

Alvina's smile froze. "You donated what I left you to the government?"

Harper maintained her smile, her voice soft. "Moreover, I promised them they would see Ms. Taylor, and it seems I kept that promise."

"You're right, I am your daughter. I have your top-tier genes. But someone like me would never be content to be a pawn in your game."

"If you try to use me, I'll just flip the board. How do you like the gift I gave you?"Harper would always be the one in control, never the one being controlled; even Jeremy and Alvina would not dream of controlling her.The hall was silent; everyone was watching the confrontation between Harper and Alvina.

They had expected Alvina to completely crush Harper, but that wasn't the case. Harper not only held her ground but seemed to have the upper hand.

Walter's eyes dimmed, thinking to himself, 'What a monster giving birth to another monster.'

Alvina could see the line of people behind Harper through the screen. They were all there for Alvina, or more precisely, for Declan.

Declan's research institute was top-secret, and he knew too many national secrets, even participating in the most critical scientific research.

When the lab exploded, Declan was left in a vegetative state. By all rights, he should never have been allowed to leave the country. Even for recovery, he should have been in the most secure facility in the country.

But Alvina had faked her own death and smuggled him out of the country, treating it like a game.

At that moment, a senior officer stepped forward. His hair was graying, but the insignia on his shoulder spoke volumes about his rank.

He stared coldly at Alvina on the screen, his voice heavy, "Alvina, Declan is a national asset. By taking him, you've committed a serious crime. If you don't want to spend the rest of your life in prison, you should return him immediately."
