No Wife, No Life Chapter 13

Because of the drama, the dinner party wrapped up quickly, leaving everyone feeling pretty down.

Holden was dead set on saving their marriage, so he made sure Ron only got them one room.

"Harper, this will always be your home. As long as I'm here, no one will mistreat you," Holden said, gently patting her hand and shooting Alex a stern look.

Harper gave a small smile and nodded.

Holden was always good to her, but he couldn't control love.

Even if she managed to keep Alex phsically, she couldn't hold onto his heart. Eventually, they'd go their separate ways and she'd have no ties left with the Lavien family.

Ron then led them to a room on the second floor.

The room was neat and tidy, with a big bed in the center covered in soft bedding.

There were also a bunch of flashy roses, adding a romantic vibe. Clearly, Holden had set this up, hinting that something should happen between them.

"Mr. Lavien, Mrs. Lavien, if you need anything, just let me know," Ron said respectfully.

Even though he had witnessed everything that happened earlier, he still supported Harper wholeheartedly.

Harper had been part of the Lavien family for five years. She was always respectful to Holden, took great care of Alex, and was kind and gentle to the servants. She never made a single mistake.

How could the vain Emily compare to Harper?

'Alex is such a fool,' Ron thought. He had watched Alex grow up and he knew Alex's personality well. Alex tended to handle things with shrewdness and decisiveness. How could he be so blind when it came to love?

"Thanks, Ron. You've been busy all day, so get some rest," Harper said calmly, as considerate as ever.

No matter how bad her mood was, she never showed it or took it out on innocent people.

Ron nodded and left, closing the door behind him.

The room suddenly felt awkward, and neither of them spoke.

Alex casually sat on the sofa, opened his laptop, and started working. The light reflected on his handsome face, making it hard to look away from his focused expression.

Thinking about the things in the daytime, Harper felt downcast and walked into the bathroom by herself.

This was a habit they had developed over the years. Whenever they were in the same room, Alex would always work first, while she would go to take a shower.

Only after she finished would Alex stop working and go to shower.

Harper took off her dress and turned on the shower. She stood under the water, trying to wash away her exhaustion.

As the warm water slid over her body, Harper closed her eyes, resigned to the fact that nothing could change.

She kept her shower time short. It was getting late, and she didn't want to keep him waiting too long.

When she dried herself and took out the nightgown prepared by the servant, she was stunned.

It was a very thin nightgown, almost see-through.

If she wore this nightgown out, Alex would definitely see her body.

Harper rummaged through the cabinet, but there was nothing else, not even a clean towel.

She sighed and silently put on the nightgown.

She moved quietly as she opened the bathroom door, trying not to disturb Alex, who was fully concentrated on work.

But even so, Alex still heard her movements.

He turned around, catching a glimpse of her out of the corner of his eye.

Her long hair cascaded over her shoulders, and she wore an almost transparent nightgown, revealing the graceful curves of her body.

Alex knew how enticing the body beneath the nightgown was. He had spent countless nights caressing and indulging in it.

The swirling steam and the shimmering droplets on her neck seemed to beckon him to give in to his desires.

She didn't want a divorce and was trying to save their marriage in this way!

Even the proud her would lower her head in front of him.

Alex's lips tightened, and his blue eyes darkened.

She was like a noble and aloof cat, but in front of him, her master, she would obediently lie at his feet, submissively seeking his favor.

"Are you trying to seduce me?" he said coldly, a hint of mockery flashing in his eyes.

"It's no use trying. We are definitely getting a divorce."

His tone grew more sarcastic, "Don't think you can dodge this just because Grandpa has your back. We've been married for five years; you should know my personality. Once I decide on something, it will never change."

Alex's piercing gaze scanned her from head to toe, nearly scrutinizing.

"Don't think that dressing like this will make any difference. Even if you were standing naked in front of me, the result would be the same. Don't waste your time and efforts."

Harper shivered as a chill ran through her body. In his mind, everything she did had a purpose; her actions were such disgraceful.

Harper laughed coldly. "You're overthinking it. There were no other nightgowns in the bathroom."

She looked him straight in the eye and asked, "Since we're getting a divorce, why do you care about a nightgown? What I do and what I wear in the future would have nothing to do with you."

After saying that, she didn't look at him again, picked up the quilt, and lay down on the sofa.

Seeing that she didn't plan to sleep in the bed, Alex felt an inexplicable sense of disappointment.

Was she trying to draw a line? Even if they were in the same room, she would treat him like a stranger?

He suddenly got a bit sulky. "Just sleep on the bed and leave the sofa to me. You're a guest, and I don't want to be accused of mistreating a guest."

If she wanted to distance herself, he would grant her wish.

This was the Lavien Mansion, and she was no longer part of the Lavien family, just a guest staying over.

"No need, I'm good on the sofa," Harper's voice came from her turned back, carrying a cold sense of detachment.

Just then, the phone on the table buzzed.

Alex angrily grabbed the phone and saw a message on the screen: [Hey, beautiful girl, I meant what I said today. Take your time to consider it before turning me down.]

It was a message from Caden, and the phone in his hand wasn't his, but Harper's.

Alex felt a surge of anger rising in his chest.

What had they talked about? What did he mean by 'I meant what I said today'? Did Caden really confess to her?

He threw the phone onto the table, his face dark and furious. "I've never seen such a shameless woman like you! No matter what, you're still part of the Lavien family, yet you openly flirt with men in the Lavien Mansion. Aren't you afraid that Grandpa will be heartbroken if he knows? You say you don't want to upset him and want Emily to leave, but what have you done?"

Under the light, his face was stormy. "Hypocritical, selfish! Harper, how did I not see this before?"

His words were so heartless, like a sharp knife stabbing into Harper.

Harper sat up, her eyes glistening with tears. "Have you done anything better? In broad daylight, you flaunt your mistress while abandoning your wife. Aren't you afraid of making Grandpa angry?"

"That's different."

"How is it different?"

Alex stared at her, enunciating each word, "Emily is my future wife!"

He was declaring that he was definitely going to marry Emily.

Harper sneered, "Well, I'm sorry, Mr. Lavien, but Caden is my future husband."
