No Wife, No Life Chapter 286
Xavia's face went pale, unable to keep up the charade any longer.
She looked at the two of them as she gritted her teeth, panic written all over her face.
After a long moment of trying to keep it together, she finally asked in a hoarse voice, "Are you really married? Why didn't you have a wedding?"
She looked at Arthur with a pained expression.
Arthur avoided her gaze and mumbled, "Molly wants to get into the entertainment industry, so a big public wedding isn't really a good idea. But we'll have one later."
His words felt like a dagger to Xavia's heart.
Did he really see Molly as his wife?
She was just his blood bank!
Xavia screamed internally with indignation, but she kept a smile plastered on her face. "Arthur, you should have told me you were married. If you had told me earlier, I wouldn't have treated Molly like an outsider."
Molly watched Xavia's stiff expression, feeling a strange sense of satisfaction.
"I'm telling you now, so do you still think I need to leave?"
"Of course, you're not an outsider." Xavia's voice wavered.
For a moment, Xavia said nothing. What could she say? Molly had blocked every possible response.
Arthur lowered his eyes. "Molly, you should go out first."
A hint of triumph flashed in Xavia's eyes.
Molly, however, showed no sign of displeasure. She snuggled closer to Arthur, pouting playfully. "Again with this, it seems Ms. Williams is more important than me."
She joked as she hopped off the bed.
As she left, she tilted her head and looked at Xavia. "Ms. Williams, my husband cares about you so much. I hope you won't do anything to hurt him."
After saying that, she should have left, but she sighed softly and turned to look at Arthur, blinking.
Arthur's face remained expressionless.
Molly leaned close to his ear and whispered, "You mentioned Gerald earlier, so now we're even."
She smiled mischievously and planted a teasing kiss on Arthur's eye.
Arthur's Adam's apple bobbed as he grabbed her wandering hand. "Knock it off."
"What? Your first love is here, and now I can't even tease you? Who was the one teasing me just now?"
She buried her head in his chest again, nuzzling before reluctantly getting up. "Alright, I'll stop. You can have a good chat with your first love."
Molly stood up, exuding confidence with every step. As she passed Xavia, she let out a light chuckle.
Xavia couldn't believe it. It wasn't until the door to the hospital room closed that she snapped out of it.
She turned and looked up, meeting Arthur's gaze.
His eyes were deep and unreadable, as if they could see through everything, making her heart tighten with just one glance.
"Arthur, does Molly not like me?"
She hesitated, trying to find a way to bring up Edwin.
"I heard your fans have been attacking her." His voice was calm, without any emotion.
Xavia sighed. "I do have some irrational fans, and I can't really control them."
She changed the subject. "You drank that spiked drink, so you must be feeling unwell. You need to take care of yourself and rest properly. If there's nothing urgent at your company, you should stay in the hospital for a few days."
Unexpectedly, Arthur's expression hardened, exuding a pressuring aura.
"Xavia, did you come here just to say this?"
He saw through her facade with one sentence, his eyes burning into her.
Suddenly, Xavia's eyes reddened as she spoke up.
"Arthur, I always come to you for help, but I don't want it to be this way. Arthur, you are the only one I can turn to and trust. When something happens, you're the first person I think of. Who else can I go to? You're the only one who gives me a sense of security."
She spoke with genuine emotion.
These words were sincere. From childhood to now, Arthur was the only man she could trust unconditionally.
"I know you're blaming me. Everyone says Edwin did it, so naturally, you don't trust me anymore. But I really didn't know about it."
"Don't you believe me? If I had known, I would have told you to avoid being set up."
She started crying. "But Arthur, think about it. I'm his fiancée. I'm supposed to marry him. Now that he's in trouble, who else can I turn to? Should I break up with him because of this? What will people say about me if I truly go through with it? Everyone will curse me."
"Arthur, I'm really out of options. Can you help me? Please, ask Mr. Roberts to let him go."
As Arthur silently watched the tearful Xavia in front of him, she suddenly felt she had changed.
Where was the gentle Xavia who used to stay by his side?
It seemed to him that Xavia was only using him for her own benefit.
She was using their past feelings to manipulate him.
"Xavia, you should know what he put in my drink this time, right?"
A flash of anger crossed his eyes.
Xavia's expression froze for a moment.
Arthur's voice was cold. "As long as I'm the CEO of the Davis Group, he'll keep trying to use underhanded methods to bring me down. You should know what he's trying to do."
"This time, he spiked my drink to try to get me committed to a mental hospital. What's next? Will he try to kill me? When that happens, will you still plead for him? Will you watch him push me to death and take my place?"
The Davis family had many illegitimate children, but the only ones truly recognized were Edwin and Asher.
Asher was more carefree and not interested in these power struggles. But Edwin was cunning and was determined to seize control of the Davis Group.
"No, Arthur, believe me. I don't want this. I want you to be well. I want both of you to be well."
Unable to hold back, Xavia lunged forward, grabbing his arm, tears streaming down her face. "Arthur, you have to believe me. When Edwin gets out, I'll talk to him. The Davis Group's heir can only be you. I won't let him covet what's not his. What you said will never happen."
She spoke earnestly, but inside, her anger was burning.
He knew Edwin would fight for that position, so why not just give it up?
Since it was the position of the Davis Group's leader, who wouldn't want it?
Arthur looked at her calmly. Then he gently pried her hand off and smiled slightly. "Xavia, there won't be a next time."
Xavia's crying stopped abruptly.
No next time? What did that mean? Was he saying he wouldn't help her anymore?
No, it couldn't be. Arthur had always granted her requests. He wouldn't ignore her.
