Ebony's POV

"Thanks for hanging out with me today, Ebony," Alissa said. It had been two days since we found out her mom escaped the Palace, and I could tell it was getting to Alissa. I decided to take her to a movie and out to eat to get her mind off her mom. We had so many guards with us it was annoying, but Keith wouldn't have let me go if I disagreed. He was worried that Alice was coming for me.

"It was nothing. I thought you and I needed to get out of the Packhouse and relax," I said 

"Yeah, it is nice to get away from everyone besides all the guards that are following us," She said 

"it would be nice to get rid of them, too, wouldn't it?" I said

"Yeah, But I know why Keith and Dad want them to follow us. They are only trying to keep us safe," She replied

"Yes, they are. At least they aren't hovering over us," I said

"Yeah," 

"How are you feeling, Alissa?" I asked

"I don't know. I am upset with my mom for everything she has done. Dad believes she is going to come after you. Do you think that is true?" Alissa asked

"I don't know," I said

"I think she is planning something. You need to be careful. She will do anything to get what she wants. She is determined to get rid of you so that I will become Queen," Alissa said 

"Do you want to become Queen?" I asked

"No. I never wanted to be Queen. Before we found you, my mom made sure I knew everything I needed to know about being Queen. While dad was looking for you, she always told me you would never be found. That your mom probably took you far away from the Palace, so I had to be ready when the time came for me to take over as Queen. When dad told me he had found where you were, you have no idea how happy and relieved I was. I was so happy that I wouldn't have to deal with moms training anymore. I could see that she was upset when he told us the news. She put on her fake smile, but I knew she was upset. I wish I would have told dad, but I was sure he wouldn't believe me," Alissa said 

"He probably wouldn't have," I said

We watched the movie and then went to an Italian Restaurant to eat. The guards sat a few tables away from Alissa and me to give us some privacy. 

"Hey, Ebony," I looked over and saw Kayla and her mom walking over to me.

"Hey, Kayla. I am shocked to see you here," I said 

"We were on our way to the mall and decided to get something to eat. Hey Alissa,' Kayla said 

"Hey, I am going to go to the restroom. I will be back," Alissa said 

"Okay," I replied, and  Alissa left. 

"How has your first week of summer been?" Kayla asked

"Crazy. But I don't want to talk about that right now. How about you? How was your first week of summer break" I asked

"It was okay. I mostly have been sitting around the house or hanging with Kate. We really miss you, Ebony," Kayla said 

"I miss you guys, too," I replied. I talked to Kayla for a while longer until Alissa came out of the bathroom. I looked at her, and it looked like something was bothering her.

"Are you okay, Alissa?" I asked

"Yes, I don't feel that well. Can we go back to the Packhouse?" Alissa asked

"Sure. I will see you later, Kayla," I said, and Alissa and I headed to the limo. 

"Are you sure you are okay," I asked Alissa while we were on our way home. 

"Yes, I think it was something I ate," 

Alissa's POV

I felt terrible lying to Ebony. I couldn't believe my mom was there when I walked into the women's restroom. 

At the Restaurant

"Hello, Alissa," I looked to see my mom standing behind me.

"What are you doing here, mom?" I asked

"I need your help," She said

"What do you need help with?" I asked

"I need you to trick Ebony into going into the woods tomorrow," My mom said

"No. I am not taking Ebony to the woods. I know you want to hurt her," I replied.

"What do you mean you won't trick her into going to the woods? I am your mother, and I need your help. The Royal Council is investigating me, and they plan on taking my title as Queen away," My mom said

"I won't let you hurt Ebony," I replied

" Why are you taking up for her? If it weren't for that little bitch being born, I wouldn't have to go to all these extremes to get you what belongs to you."

"I was never supposed to be Queen, mom. Ebony was," I replied

"You are going to do this for me because everything I did was for you. To make sure that you get everything you should," 

"I won't let you hurt Ebony," I replied

"I don't want to hear this bull shit from you. You are going to get Claire to come to the woods with you tonight, so I can get rid of that bitch. She has ruined my life, and I won't let her ruin yours," My mom said, and she walked out of the bathroom. 

After my mom left, I walked out of the bathroom and back to where Ebony was sitting. I could tell she knew something was bothering me, but I tried to hide it from her. I didn't know how to tell Ebony that my mom was planning to take her to the Lake. I knew that there was one thing I was sure of. I wasn't going to let my mom hurt her.
