Rose Bailey: My Mate, My Flower Chapter 27

Max's POV

I stayed by the lake for about an hour, thinking about what Lilly had told me. I was confused because I knew I had never had any conversation with her about Cloe.

Lilly believed that we did because she has never been a good liar. I could feel her pain as she spoke to me, which hurt my heart. I have never liked seeing her sad.

How could she believe I left her and our children? I would never have done that.

I stood up and walked back to the Packhouse. It was about a forty-five-minute walk. I didn't care because I needed the time to think.

How could I feel so alive and warm with her? I still feel the tingles and sparks going through my body from her touch. I haven't felt that since she left me.

I walked into the Packhouse and went up to Edward's floor. I knocked on the door and waited.

"Come in," Edward said

"Hey, I hope I'm not bothering you. Hi, Nancy," I said as I entered the room.

"Hi! No, you're not bothering us. I was leaving," Nancy said and then kissed Edward on the lips and left the room.

" I thought you and Lilly would still be talking," Edward asked.

"The meeting didn't go as planned," I said and then sat on the chair by a table in his room.

"What happened?"

I told him everything that Lilly told me.

"That doesn't make any sense. How could you have had an argument with Lilly when you were in the hospital." He asked, just as confused as me

"I don't know, but she believes this happened. Now I know why Lisa has been so upset with me for all these years. She believes I abandoned Lilly and my kids. But, you know me and that I would never do that."

"I know! You need to prove to Lilly that never happened,"

"This whole situation is confusing. I am starting to wonder about everything now. I feel like I have been living the wrong life," I said honestly.

"How so"

"When I saw Lil again, It was like the world stopped. I felt alive and better than I have since she left. I even felt sparks when we touched. It was intense. Way more intense than anything I've felt with Chloe. It's making me wonder if I was right back when I believed Lilly was my mate. I feel she is the one I was supposed to spend my life with." I explained

"And Chloe?"

"I don't know. You see our relationship or lack of a relationship. It is weak compared to my and Lil's. I would never have left Lil if she had stayed. I love Mark, but I have never loved Chloe,"

"I know! What do you think it is? Do you think you have two mates?"

"I don't know. Wouldn't I love them both the same? When Lil left today, I hurt and had pain in my heart. I am always relieved when Chloe leaves. This whole thing is crazy." I said, placing my hand on my forehead

"Maybe there's  more to it than we know," Edward said

"What do you mean."

"What if a witch is involved?"

I just looked at him and let him continue.

"What if a witch cast a spell on you to think that Chloe is your mate? Evil witches have been known to do things like that." 

" Why would a witch do that?" I asked him.

I was starting to wonder if he was right. 

"Maybe a witch has something against you and Lilly," He said

"Why would they pick Chloe," I asked. 

"What if she has something to do with it? You say you don't remember sleeping with her and getting her pregnant. You never felt the mate bond until she mysteriously showed up with Mark. What if she used this to get back at you."

I thought about everything for a minute. Everything he said made sense. 

"You might be right. I don't know why I never thought of all this before," I said and stood up from the chair.

"Now I need to figure out how to find the truth, and I need your help," I said, looking at Edward.

He looked up at me with a smirk and then replied.

"What do you need,"
