"Doctor Max! Come sit with us," Damia said with a warm smile.

"And you are?"

"Hi, I'm Damia, Miss Natalia's personal assistant."

"Oh, nice to meet you," Doctor Max replied, glancing at the four men who were all staring at him.

"You came with..." he said, looking at me after a pause.

"They're the board of directors of our company," Damia explained.

One by one, the men stood up to shake Max's hand.

"Please, join us."

They pulled up a chair for him next to me. Max sat down and said, "Sorry if I'm interrupting anything."

"Are you kidding? Doctor Max, we're lucky to meet you. It's actually my birthday today," Mr. Hendrix said. The guy was a bachelor but planning to get married to his girlfriend soon.

"Happy birthday."

"Thanks so much."

"I don't have anything to give you right now."

"Doesn't matter. Having you here is the best gift."

Max laughed and nodded. "Well, I owe you one then. If you ever need me, just call. That'll be my birthday gift to you."

Mr. Hendrix's eyes lit up, and he broke into a huge grin.

"Best present ever! Now I know I won't die anytime soon if I get sick and Doctor Max is treating me."

Everyone cracked up at that.

Meanwhile, Max turned to look at me. I'd been watching him chat so politely with my team.

"So, how's your investigation going?" he asked me.

Everyone turned my way, looking confused.

"Investigation?"

I cleared my throat, wanting to change the subject. Max caught my signal and turned back to the others.

"Just some business stuff, you know."

After that, they all started asking Max about health issues their families were dealing with. He told them he was just a healer who could only treat wolves, and they should talk to pack doctors for regular health advice. They apologized for asking so many questions, but Max said he was happy to help however he could.

When everyone finished their drinks, they stood up and bowed to me.

"Miss Natalia, may we be excused?"

"Of course."

I was about to get up when Damia stood and said, "Boss, I think Doctor Max wants to talk to you about that investigation thing. You two can chat, and I'll head out too."

I looked at Max, who was sitting comfortably beside me. I was actually curious to talk with him about all kinds of things.

"Okay," I said, giving Damia permission to leave, then turned my attention to Max.

"As you know, I'm running my pack's company now, so I had to put all my medical research on hold."

Max looked shocked. "But you were such a brilliant student. What made you give up your dream and do something completely different?"

"Doctor Max, actually—"

"Just call me Max."

I was surprised. In the royal family, we had rules about using first names unless we were close to someone.

"Max," I said quietly, like he'd asked.

"When I saw you earlier, I thought I was going to meet the Natalia who introduced herself to me at the council party. But when I got here, I saw a different Natalia—the CEO of her pack company."

"My parents wanted it this way. Our pack is huge. My brother has to handle so many things, so my parents wanted to split the responsibilities between us."

"I see."

Max ordered himself a drink. "Want one?" he asked.

"Sure."

A waiter brought over a tray and set down our drinks.

Even though I was starting to feel lightheaded, I kept sipping.

"I want to go home," I mumbled, getting to my feet.

"I'll drive you," he said, standing up and putting his arm around my shoulder.

I shook my head slightly. "No, my driver's waiting outside."

"Then let me at least help you to your car."

I thought about it for a moment, then nodded.

He helped me walk outside and get into the back seat of my car, telling my driver to get me home safely.

"By the way, why are you here?" I asked, sticking my head out the window.

He leaned down, and I pulled back inside.

"Our alliance is over," he said.

"But why? It was only a few months. I thought it would last for years."

He chuckled like he thought my tone was cute. "It's all business, and we can't work with another pack forever. If we did that, there'd be wars eventually, and nobody would win any territory."

I huffed angrily and pouted, remembering that my brother had also talked about wars.

"Why does everyone keep talking about wars? I hate it."

"Natalia, you don't need to worry about it. You can always use my treatments."

I opened my mouth to say something, but the driver started the car and turned to look at us.

"I'm leaving your pack tomorrow after I meet with your brother," Max said, standing straight.

I stared at him with blurry eyes and waved. The car started moving toward the pack house.

During the whole ride, I kept my eyes closed because I felt so drunk.

When the car stopped, I got out with wobbly legs. The guards rushed over to help me.

They mind-linked Jason about my condition. Within seconds, Jason came running from outside.

He looked at me with raised eyebrows and said, "You're drunk!"

I gave him a sheepish smile. "Sorry. I met Max, so I had a few drinks with him."

"Max? Who's Max?"

"How can you forget him, brother? The best healer in the—"

"Doctor Max Harrison?" Eric interrupted as he came out of the pack house.

"Mmhmm," I hummed, nodding.

"Eric, help her inside. I'm calling Doctor Max."

I waved my hands when I heard that. "No, brother. Don't yell at him. He's a gentleman."

Eric picked me up and carried me to my room. I was completely exhausted. As he laid me on my bed, he complained, "You never drink with me. How come you did it with him?"

I laughed at his words like they went right over my head.

"He's my mentor. I only drank once."

Eric shook his head at me and sighed.

I felt my eyes closing as darkness slowly took over. But before I passed out completely, I heard Eric's quiet voice.

"I forgot to tell you. Adrian's coming to our pack tomorrow to discuss the alliance."
