Alpha's Twins Chapter 68
"Alpha Jason?"
Adrian's head snapped back in shock. Did that woman actually have the nerve to leave his pack with that Alpha?
"Yes, Alpha Jason. Back when I was Luna, I met his parents a few times—Alpha Martin and Luna Jade. They're good people," Grace said, her voice taking on a thoughtful tone.
Before Adrian could fire off more questions, she continued.
"Actually, they were supposed to visit our pack years ago. Your father wanted an alliance with them, and they seemed on board with the idea. But then they just... never showed up."
Adrian raised an eyebrow. "So what happened? Did they get cold feet? Were they just being polite when they really didn't want the alliance?"
Grace shook her head firmly. "No, nothing like that. We found out the truth later."
Adrian's brows knitted together. "What truth?"
"Their newborn daughter died."
His eyebrows shot up. "They had a daughter?"
"Yeah. Word was their baby girl died in some kind of accident. People stopped talking about it pretty quickly—nobody wanted to keep bringing up something that painful for the parents."
Adrian listened in silence. This was news to him.
"After that, everyone focused on their son, Alpha Jason. They poured everything into their only surviving child, raised him with all the love they had. I think they were terrified of losing him too. But they never forgot to teach him how to carry himself like royalty. He's turned out to be quite impressive. You could consider an alliance with him if you wanted."
Adrian stood up from the couch as his mother finished speaking.
"Mom, I feel for what that family went through, I really do. But that doesn't mean I need to buddy up with their son."
*Not after what I saw in that footage,* Adrian thought as he walked out of his father's office.
His mind was spinning. Why the hell did Natalia leave with Jason? Wasn't it supposed to be just a one-night thing?
The thought of her spending the night with another man made his blood boil all over again.
He wanted to punch a hole through the nearest wall.
He headed to the reception area. The moment staff spotted him, they all jumped to their feet.
"Alpha."
They bowed their heads respectfully.
"Show me Natalia Pierce's discharge papers," he ordered.
"Natalia Pierce?" One of the women mumbled as she searched through files, coming up empty. "I'm not finding any patient by that name, Alpha."
"Look again."
"Oh wait, here's Natalia M-Miller..." The woman's voice trailed off when she saw the last name, her face going pale.
Adrian realized that when he'd brought Natalia to the hospital last night, he'd automatically written down "Natalia Miller" on the admission forms.
He'd almost forgotten—she wasn't a Miller anymore. She wasn't his wife anymore.
His jaw clenched as he remembered how worried he'd been about that woman. She didn't deserve his concern.
"She was discharged earlier today. Here are the papers."
Adrian snatched the documents and scanned for the family signature on the patient release form.
He let out a bitter laugh.
"Jason Hansley," he muttered under his breath.
He tossed the papers back onto the desk and stormed out of the hospital.
Who the hell did Jason think he was, signing as her family? Her husband? Boyfriend? Some buddy of that so-called fiancé Eric?
Didn't Eric just announce he was engaged to her? Did he have any clue what his precious fiancée was doing behind his back with another Alpha?
When Adrian got back to his apartment, he made a beeline for the bar and cracked open a bottle of wine.
He was so pissed he could trash the entire place, but alcohol seemed like the smarter way to deal with his rage.
As he drank, his mind kept circling back to Natalia. He couldn't wrap his head around how the sweet woman who used to follow him around like a lost puppy had turned into... this.
A knock at the door interrupted his brooding. He got up, glass still in hand, and opened it to find Lynda standing there.
Without waiting for an invitation, she breezed past him into the apartment. She looked unusually upbeat tonight.
"Adrian, why are you drinking alone? Come on, let's drink together," Lynda said, heading straight for the bar after dumping her purse on the couch.
She poured herself a glass and walked back over to him.
"Cheers."
She clinked her glass against his and knocked back the wine.
Adrian watched her carefully. Lynda used to be this shy girl who could barely navigate high society events. Now she was drinking like a pro.
Lynda stepped back while talking, keeping her eyes locked on his.
"Adrian, remember the day we met? You told me you'd been looking for me. I didn't understand what you meant at the time, but you said I owned your heart."
Adrian listened as the memory came back to him.
"You said you were married but that you'd divorce your wife for me. I was okay with that. As long as you loved me, I was willing to do anything. I even let people call me a homewrecker for you."
"What's your point?" Adrian asked, finishing his drink in one gulp.
"When are you going to marry me, Adrian? At least make me your Luna so I can have your name," Lynda said, her voice dropping to barely above a whisper.
Her heel caught, and she started to fall backward. Adrian quickly moved to catch her before she hit the floor.
Her wine spilled down the right side of her dress. She steadied herself as Adrian helped her back upright.
She dabbed at the wine staining the scar on her hand while looking up at him.
"I've been with you for so long. Just make me your Luna already."
With that, Lynda wrapped her arms around his neck.
Adrian's gaze fell on her scar, and once again, thoughts of Natalia crashed into his mind.
He shook his head and gently removed Lynda's arms from around his neck.
Lynda's face flushed with anger, and she stormed out, shouting that he didn't love her anymore.
For some reason he couldn't explain, her words didn't cut as deep as Natalia's had.
Even though he wanted to give Lynda his name, his heart just wouldn't agree to making her his Luna.
