Alpha's Twins Chapter 126
I was stunned by his sudden proposal. Everyone knew that every alpha wanted to form an alliance with our pack. That's why some of them had been trying to get close to me. But Alpha Leo's pack was already part of our alliance. So why was he asking for my hand?
I slowly turned to look at my brother, watching for his reaction.
Please don't say anything stupid again, I prayed silently. Last time, he'd almost locked me into an engagement with Eric, and now here was Alpha Leo.
I wanted to turn him down myself. "Alpha Leo, I—"
"I can't accept your offer, Alpha Leo," my brother cut me off.
I looked at him immediately. He caught my eye and gave me a small nod. Relief washed over me.
But the other men around us had started paying attention to our conversation. Some of the alphas actually gasped when they heard Jason reject the proposal outright.
"But why?" Leo asked, and I could hear the edge in his voice.
"My sister isn't ready to get married right now. She's got dreams she wants to pursue first. She wants to live her life on her own terms. Then we'll consider it."
Jason's tone was gentle, his words polite but firm.
That didn't sit well with Alpha Leo. He frowned at Jason. "What about an engagement then? She can do whatever she wants after that. I won't interfere with her life. She can keep running her business."
That's when someone else spoke up from behind us.
"Sorry, but she already has a boyfriend."
I spun around to see Eric walking toward us.
Alpha Leo raised an eyebrow. "Who? You?"
Eric came to stand beside me and nodded.
"That's right. She's my girlfriend. I don't appreciate other guys proposing to my girl."
I stared at Eric in shock. He glanced at me briefly. I looked away, too stunned to call him out on the lie he'd just told everyone.
He'd just claimed we were together without asking me first.
Alpha Leo glared at Eric, clearly dismissing him. Then he looked back at Jason, who remained calm and unbothered.
"Is he telling the truth, Jason?" Alpha Leo asked loudly, drawing even more attention.
What's wrong with this guy? Why is he making such a scene? I thought.
Jason gestured for me to go, and I figured he'd handle Alpha Leo privately since they were supposed to be friends.
I stepped away from the group and headed for the exit. I'd had enough of this party. I just wanted to get back to my babies.
As I walked out of the hall, I glanced back one last time. Jason was still talking to Alpha Leo, who looked pretty pissed off.
Alpha Leo's eyes met mine, and I felt uncomfortable as his gaze traveled over my body. I quickly looked away.
"Creep," I muttered under my breath and left the party.
I drove back to the pack house in Jason's car. I hadn't told him I was leaving, but I knew he'd figure it out.
Once I got home, I went straight to the twins' room. They practically bounced off the walls when they saw me. They were so excited that their mom had come home early.
After changing clothes, I had dinner with them. That night, I slept in their room with both of them curled up in my arms.
---
"Miss Natalia."
I opened my eyes to someone calling my name. When I turned my head, I saw my maid standing there respectfully.
I tried to move my arms, but found two little bodies clinging to me. Their eyes were closed, still fast asleep.
I smiled at their sweet faces and kissed the tops of their heads before turning my attention to the maid.
"What's going on? Do I need to get to the office?" I asked, carefully moving my arms from around my children.
"It's Saturday, Miss. You don't have work today."
"Then what's happening so early in the morning?" I asked, getting out of bed.
"Y-Your parents have come back to the pack house," she said, looking down.
A smile spread across my face. That was great news! I'd been missing them. They were finally home.
"That's wonderful."
"Actually, Miss, there's bad news too. The Alpha is downstairs talking with them. I thought you should know they were here."
Her words confused me. What kind of bad news?
I didn't bother going to the bathroom first. I rushed downstairs to see my parents.
When I got there, my legs felt like they'd turned to stone. My father looked devastated. My mother was crying in Jason's arms.
"Mom? Dad? What happened?" I asked.
They turned to me. I ran to my mother, who broke away from Jason to hug me.
"Your uncle is gone."
The news hit me like a punch to the gut. I didn't know how to comfort her.
"He died yesterday. He was the only family I had left, and now he's gone too. How am I supposed to go on?"
I realized Dad hadn't told us because if Jason had gone to the funeral, I would have had to go too. And who would have stayed with my children?
I didn't leave my mother's side all day. I did everything I could to comfort her after losing the last of her family.
That evening, I finally convinced my mother to eat something. After getting her to have dinner, I left my parents' room.
When I got back to my room, someone was waiting for me.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"Natalia, how long are you going to stay mad at me?"
I sighed, looking at Eric. I considered him family. I couldn't stay angry with him forever.
"Eric, let's just be straight with each other," I said, closing the door before walking over to him.
He looked nervous. Actually, this was the first time I'd ever seen him nervous about anything. That gave me a sinking feeling that I was about to hear something I really didn't want to hear.
He took a deep breath and said, "I love you, Natalia."
