Alpha's Twins Chapter 228
"Miss Natalia, this is Beta Patrick."
I frowned and pulled my phone away from my ear to check the number. I'd called Adrian, so why was Patrick answering?
"Where's your Alpha?" I snapped.
I could hear Patrick talking to someone nearby.
"She's asking where you are."
Then I heard the voice of the man who'd turned my life into a living nightmare.
"Tell her I'm in a meeting right now."
"Miss Natalia, the Alpha's in a meeting."
My hands clenched into fists. "Stop screwing with me. I heard him. Put him on the phone. Now."
Patrick went quiet for a moment. Then Adrian's voice came through the line.
"What's wrong? Didn't you tell me to keep my distance? I'm just doing what you asked."
"How dare you spread those rumors?" I said through gritted teeth.
"Got any proof I spread them?"
I let out a bitter laugh. "I'm not stupid, Adrian. You could've shut those rumors down if you wanted to. And I seriously doubt anyone has the balls to spread gossip about you without your say-so."
Adrian didn't respond for a long moment. His silence was driving me crazy. "When are you going to stop messing with my life?"
"Never," he said, his voice dropping low.
I swallowed hard as my wolf responded to that deep rumble. I squeezed my eyes shut. "If you keep making up stories like this, I'll kill your little girlfriend. You did this on purpose, didn't you? Your beta must've told you about my warning. That's why you're keeping her out of the rumors."
He chuckled like I'd just told him a joke. "Your mouth sure runs smooth when you're talking. Makes me wonder how it would feel if you ran that tongue over the wound on my chest."
My eyes went wide with shock. Patrick cleared his throat nearby, reminding us he was still there.
"Can't you see two mates having a conversation? Get back to work."
"Sure thing, Alpha," Patrick replied with obvious sarcasm.
I felt sick. This man had no shame. How could he talk like that with someone else right there listening?
"So what were you saying..." After a brief pause, he spoke quietly into the phone, like he was standing right next to me, whispering in my ear.
"Mate?"
The word hit me like a punch to the gut, leaving me speechless.
"Stop bothering me, Adrian. This is my final warning. If you ever try to drag me into anything else, I'll kill Lynda."
My voice was ice-cold, making sure he knew I meant every word.
"Don't bring her into this."
I scoffed at his suddenly gentle tone. "There is no 'this.' There's nothing between us."
"Are you seriously going to deny the mate bond?"
I smirked as everything finally clicked into place. I'd been confused this whole time, but talking to this man just showed me exactly what I needed to do.
"This bond won't exist anymore once I let another man mark me."
Adrian's growl came through the phone like thunder.
"NATALIA."
"Bye, Alpha."
"Don't do something stup—"
I hung up before he could finish. My eyes flashed blue as satisfaction washed over me.
I had to move on—not with my life, but away from this man.
