Alpha's Twins Chapter 169
I turned to look at Adrian. "We've got this covered," I told him.
He completely ignored me and looked straight at Max.
"It's getting late, and you're in rough shape. I can't have you getting hurt on my territory. Get in the car."
Max slowly turned toward him and nodded.
"Thanks, Alpha Adrian."
I rolled my eyes in frustration. Max shouldn't have said yes.
I sighed and walked over to the car, supporting Max. I opened the back door and helped him slide in.
I walked around to the other side and reached for the door handle. Before I could get in, Adrian grabbed the door, blocking me.
"Where do you think you're going?" he asked.
I stared at him. "In your car?"
I mean, wasn't that obvious?
He glared at me. "Why? So you can head to some hotel and pull whatever scheme you're cooking up?"
He was really pushing my buttons right now. How much crap was one person supposed to take?
"I don't give a damn what you think I'm planning. But there's no way I'm trusting you alone with him."
He let out a harsh laugh. "And what exactly is he to you that you can't trust me? Your next mark after your fiancé Eric? Oh wait—ex-fiancé, since he's dying now, so you moved on to fresh meat."
His voice stayed perfectly calm while he threw those cruel words at me, like insulting me was the easiest thing in the world.
"Don't bring up Eric. That's none of your business. And you heard Max earlier—he asked for my help. So if you want to help him, you're stuck with me too."
I climbed into the backseat and slammed the door.
Through the window, I could see his hands clenched into fists.
He took several deep breaths like he was fighting to control his temper, then got behind the wheel.
The entire ride was dead silent. I couldn't let Max go off alone with Adrian—I was terrified I'd lose track of him again.
As we drove toward the hotel, I started thinking about how to make sure Max would remember me.
A smile crept across my face when an idea hit me. I dug through my bag, pulled out a small notepad and pen, and scribbled something down.
"Max, here's my cell number. Please call me when you get a chance. I need your help. –Natalia"
I made sure to include my number. I was trying to figure out how to slip the note into Max's pocket when luck stepped in.
Suddenly, I felt weight against my shoulder. I looked down and saw Max had fallen asleep, his head resting on me.
I glanced at his pants pocket and very carefully slid the note inside.
When I finally managed it, I couldn't help but grin. I was about to turn toward the window when I caught sight of the rearview mirror.
My blood ran cold when I saw Adrian watching Max and me with those dark eyes of his.
