It was past midnight when I finally headed home. I'd skipped going back to the pack house—I was waiting for *her*.

My driver pulled up outside my place. Through the window, I spotted another car already parked out front.

Before my driver could get out to open my door, someone appeared right in front of our car.

She rushed over and yanked the back door open for me.

Her desperate eyes locked onto mine. I stepped out and just looked at her.

"Lynda."

She slammed the door shut and crossed her arms.

"What the hell is going on, Adrian?"

I looked away and started walking toward my front door.

She followed me, then suddenly cut in front of me, blocking my path.

"Adrian, you can't just ignore me tonight. I need answers."

I met her eyes. Pure rage stared back at me. I grabbed her arm and moved her aside.

"I'm busy right now. I don't want to talk."

As I pulled out my house key, she grabbed my wrist to stop me.

"How could you do this to me, Adrian? How could you cheat on me?"

I turned to face her. "Lynd—"

"No, Adrian. You can't keep playing games with me. Everyone saw you dragging Natalia into your office. And why was she even there in the first place? Why can't she just leave me alone? Right when I wanted to talk to your parents about our wedding, she shows up with her kids."

My expression darkened, and I frowned at her. "They're my kids too."

She looked away, her hands trembling around my wrist.

"I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. But why did you break my heart?"

Tears welled up in her eyes. My expression softened—I didn't want to scare her.

I gently patted the hand holding my wrist. "I'm not a good man, Lynda. You deserve someone better."

Her eyes went wide. "W-What do you mean?"

"Lynda, we're done."

She immediately jerked her hand away and stepped back. Tears streamed down her face.

"I've loved you for years. How can you just change your mind? Is this because she's back in your life?"

I couldn't answer her question. If she thought it was because of Natalia, she was right.

"People call you ruthless, but you never showed me that side until now. What happened to you tonight, Adrian? Why do you want me to see you as heartless? How can you forget what I did for you when we were kids?"

I clenched my fists. The sharp edge of my key ring bit into my palm.

I knew I was a traitor. Walking away from her meant betraying the little girl who'd saved me. She was my lifesaver. But right now, all I could do was end this one-sided relationship. She'd never be happy with me anyway.

"What makes you still want her? Adrian, is it just because she's the mother of your children? Because if that's all it is, I could be a good mo—"

She stopped mid-sentence, staring at me in shock when I cut her off.

"It's because I love her."
