Natalia felt her claws retract, and she noticed cracks running through her nails. Blood stained them—she couldn't tell if it was Adrian's or her own. Sharp pain shot through her fingertips either way.

She turned back to Adrian, her eyes narrowing.

"Tell me. Who are you? How the hell did you do that?"

Adrian held her gaze for a long moment before his eyes flashed red.

"I'm your mate, darling," he said with that infuriating smirk.

She ignored the throbbing in her nails and glared at him. "Cut the crap. How did you stop me? What kind of trick was that? Show me."

She stepped forward, grabbed his shirt, and ripped it open in one swift motion.

Buttons scattered across the floor, their sharp clicks echoing in the silent room.

Adrian's eyes widened at her sudden move, but she was too focused on getting answers to care about his reaction.

How could anyone just... stop her mid-attack? Adrian had to be hiding something.

But when she saw his bare chest, her hands froze on the torn fabric.

The old claw marks were still there, carved deep into his skin right over his heart. The sight brought back that moment—how furious she'd been, how close she'd come to ripping his heart right out of his chest.

Adrian let out a dark chuckle. "What's going through that head of yours, woman? When you said you'd gone wild, I didn't think you meant *this* wild."

His taunt snapped her back to reality. She immediately let go of his shirt.

The wounds still hadn't healed—his or hers.

She looked away from his chest and shook her head.

She heard Adrian's mocking laugh.

"So what do you think about a man who can break a spell you've been casting for years with just one growl?"

She met his eyes again.

"Looks like the Moon Goddess gave that kind of power to the wrong person."

He nodded, his lips twitching upward. He shrugged off the ruined shirt. "Oh really?"

Natalia stayed where she was. He moved closer, leaning down until his breath tickled her ear.

"You're forgetting something—you're part of my pack now. Even if you think about it logically, none of my pack members can kill me."

She shoved his chest, then hissed as pain shot through her nails.

Adrian caught her reaction immediately. His expression shifted, the amusement fading.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

He hadn't noticed her nails yet—probably figured the blood was his from when she'd clawed his chest.

She shook her hands, trying to ease the pain. When he saw what was causing it, he grabbed her hand and pulled her toward his desk.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

She couldn't yank her hand away—too afraid her nails would shatter completely.

Adrian pulled a tissue from the box on his desk and carefully wiped her nails one by one. She squeezed her eyes shut as the tissue caught on the cracks, sending waves of agony through her fingers.

After cleaning the blood from her damaged nails, he sighed.

"Let me heal them."

"Wha—"

Before Natalia could protest, he slipped her finger into his mouth.
