Alpha's Twins Chapter 184
I blinked hard when something sharp hit my eyes. I looked away from Adrian, trying to process what he'd just said.
*Learned the truth? I wasn't the one?* The thoughts swirled in my head.
"Natali–"
I cut him off with an icy stare. "What do you mean?"
He didn't flinch at my glare and answered in that same calm tone.
"I pulled all the security footage from that night. I know what really happened."
I stared at him for what felt like forever. Something was different about him today. He seemed... calmer than he'd ever been around me. There was this weird energy coming off him too. Was it because he'd just figured out the truth?
I let out a bitter laugh and looked away. The laugh grew louder, more unhinged.
I clutched my stomach, unable to stop laughing like some kind of maniac.
I wasn't laughing at him – I was laughing at my own screwed-up life.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" he asked.
I looked back at him and forced myself to stop. Shaking my head, I said, "Adrian Miller, you just can't trust me, can you?"
His eyebrows shot up at my question. To drive the point home, I continued, "When I kept telling you I didn't drug you, you never believed me. But when I got sick of your bullshit accusations and just admitted to a lie, you still didn't believe me. Guess I'm the most untrustworthy person on the planet."
He looked like I'd just slapped him. Instead of responding to what I'd said, he asked, "Why didn't you tell me your cousin used to hurt you?"
All the emotion drained from my eyes, leaving them cold and empty.
"I don't think that's any of your business."
I yanked the car door open and got out. I was done talking to him, done explaining myself, done with all of it.
When I looked up at what was in front of me, my breath caught in my throat.
The river was absolutely stunning – this gorgeous emerald green that seemed to glow in the light.
I couldn't help but walk toward the bridge railing. From here, I could see how clean and pure the water looked.
Even with clouds covering most of the sun, the river sparkled like it was full of diamonds.
"God, it's beautiful," I whispered, staring down at the water.
I heard footsteps behind me and knew without looking that it was Adrian.
I didn't turn around, pretending he wasn't even there.
The time when I'd wanted him to know the truth had passed. Now? It didn't matter anymore.
Adrian came up beside me. I could feel his eyes on me.
I closed my eyes when his scent hit me, because my wolf was being an idiot and wanted to get closer to him. She hadn't reacted like this in the car. So why now?
I took a deep breath and moved to the other side, scanning the bridge to see if I could catch a ride out of here.
That's when I heard Adrian's voice, softer than before.
"You didn't set me up by drugging me. So why did you agree to marry me?"
