I tried reaching out to him through our mind link, telling him he could still walk away from this war. We had time. Alpha Leo was going to die anyway—I'd bitten him enough times to make sure of that. The throne would be mine without all this bloodshed.

If Adrian backed down now, I wouldn't have to kill him. I didn't want to make my children orphans, though I'd never let them leave with him as long as the pack was mine.

To my surprise, he cut off all the mind links like he was done listening to anyone.

Those red eyes of his made it crystal clear—he wasn't happy about learning the truth.

I stopped my attack and stared right into his eyes.

"Natalia! Save your brother!"

My mother's desperate scream tore through the mind link. I heard my father's growl as his body hit the ground hard.

I spun toward Jason and saw Alpha Leo had already driven another stake through Jason's other leg with his teeth. Jason was out cold on the ground.

Even with one missing leg, Alpha Leo was limping forward, getting ready to go for Jason's throat.

Nobody around was lifting a finger to help Jason. Only Eric was struggling to crawl toward him, using every ounce of strength he had left.

I just stood there frozen. Too shocked to move.

Something slammed into me, knocking me to the ground. Adrian was back on his feet, shaking himself off. I didn't waste a second—I scrambled up and started running toward Jason, trying to beat Adrian there.

I couldn't let Alpha Leo kill my brother. I'd have to take Leo down myself to keep the pack in our family.

Jason wasn't that far away, so I pushed myself to run faster.

But Adrian beat me to it. He launched himself at Alpha Leo.

My feet skidded to a stop with a harsh screech as I watched Adrian sink his teeth into Leo. He methodically broke Leo's remaining three legs, one by one.

In that moment, Adrian looked like something out of a nightmare. Like he'd completely lost it and was pouring all his rage into destroying Leo.

Leo was begging him to stop, pleading for mercy. But Adrian didn't listen for even a second.

Finally, he bit down on Leo's neck and ripped it clean off.

Alpha Leo's head rolled across the ground and stopped right at my feet.

I stared down at the gray wolf's severed head—tears still wet in his lifeless eyes, his tongue hanging out.

My heart pounding, I looked back at Adrian. He was staring at Jason.

"Is he thinking about killing him?" I thought to myself, forgetting that all the mind links were still open.

"He didn't come here to attack our pack," Eric's voice came through weakly. "He came to help us, just like he offered in that deal. But we backed the wrong Alpha. The man Jason trusted most betrayed him."

My eyes went wide with shock. As I stared at Adrian, tears started welling up.

I looked at his body. I couldn't even count how many wounds I'd given him.

I'd gotten it all wrong? He actually came here to save us?

But this wasn't the end. Everything changed from that moment on.

Jason had lost—he couldn't save his fighters or protect his pack because of his illness.

By killing Alpha Leo, Adrian had won the war. He didn't just win the Blue Blood Pack—he'd claimed Alpha Leo's pack too.

I stumbled backward as Adrian threw his head back and howled at the sky. Immediately, dozens of answering howls echoed through the forest, proving that plenty of fighters were still alive and had heard their new leader.

I dropped to my knees, completely defeated.

Through our pack link, I heard every wolf chanting the same thing:

"ALL HAIL THE NEW ALPHA OF THE BLUE BLOOD PACK, ALPHA ADRIAN."
