Alpha's Twins Chapter 41

I whipped my head around immediately. There he was—Alpha Adrian, standing just a few feet from my chair.

The other doctors spotted him and quickly stood to bow.

Adrian had his hands shoved deep in his pockets. His face was stone-cold, but his eyes were locked on something specific.

I followed his stare to see what had caught his attention.

He was staring at my hand resting on Harold's. I slowly pulled it away and rolled my eyes.

When I looked back at Adrian, now he was eyeing the bouquet of white roses!

He must've seen them earlier when he was going in or out of his father's room this morning.

I ignored him completely and refused to look his way again.

I only came here for one day. How the hell do I keep running into him?

Harold glanced away from Adrian and started to push back his chair to stand.

Just as Harold was about to get up to bow, Adrian walked over and lightly pressed his hand on Harold's shoulder, pushing him back down.

"Doctor Harold, don't get up," Adrian said, his voice eerily calm.

I watched Harold tense up under Adrian's commanding presence. Even though Adrian told him to stay seated, Harold still gave a slight nod of his head while remaining in his chair.

Adrian turned to the other doctors, who were still bowing. He gestured with his hand for them to sit. They immediately dropped back into their seats and looked anywhere but at him. Nobody wanted to piss him off. They couldn't afford to.

I noticed Adrian's hand was still resting on Harold's shoulder.

I silently thanked my lucky stars again. If we hadn't gone quiet after talking about my kids and Adrian had overheard us, he would've gotten all the information he needed.

A waiter appeared with two plates and silverware for our table.

"Oh, you two are having lunch," Adrian said, finally lifting his hand from Harold's shoulder.

"Alpha, please, have a seat," Harold offered politely.

Even though the last thing I wanted was Adrian sitting at our table, I couldn't stop Harold. It was his job. Adrian was his alpha.

"Well, if you insist..." Adrian muttered and sat down right next to me.

I clenched my fists, fury boiling inside me.

What a shameless bastard!

Harold wasn't even insisting. He was just being respectful by asking.

Why did he have to sit with us? There was an empty chair next to Harold he could've taken instead.

"Alpha, what brings you here at this hour?" Harold asked once he'd calmed down. He was clearly rattled that Adrian had almost caught him in his lies.

But he tried to pull himself together since Adrian hadn't heard anything.

"Why? Weren't expecting me around this time?" Adrian asked with a mocking edge.

"No, it's not that, Alpha."

"Maybe I interrupted your little date," Adrian muttered, turning to look at me.

I frowned at him. His eyes were boring into me with some kind of resentment I couldn't quite place.

"You've got it all wrong. We were discussing your father's health. Natalia agreed to help him," Harold tried to explain.

Adrian raised an eyebrow, keeping his eyes on me. "Oh really? How?"

I looked away from him. This was getting uncomfortable.

My wolf was going absolutely crazy from his scent. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes.

"Nancy."

I tried to reach out to my wolf mentally.

"He's right here! Our mate is with us!" My wolf was practically bouncing inside me.

"He's not a good guy. Stop feeling anything for him," I warned her.

"He's our mate. You can't deny the truth."

I shut her out and rubbed my forehead. I couldn't let my wolf take control. This man didn't deserve us.

While I was dealing with my wolf, Harold had already filled Adrian in on everything about his father's health report. He assured him I would help them get the cure they needed.

"Didn't you say only Max Harrison has the cure?" Adrian asked Harold.

"Yeah, but Natalia said th—"

"How can I trust her with my father's health?"

I turned to look at Adrian. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

I came all this way to help his father, and he was questioning whether he could trust me with his dad's health?

"Who needs your trust? Your mom trusts me. I'm pretty sure your dad does too," I shot back.

Adrian ignored my response and asked Harold,

"How long will this take? When will you give him the cure?"

Harold thought for a moment before answering,

"We need to monitor Mr. Lucas for a week. We'll have to put him on some medication first. We'll give him the cure once he's strong enough to handle it."

"Fine," Adrian replied curtly.

Just then, Harold's phone rang. He answered it, and his face immediately turned serious. He stood up abruptly.

He hung up and bowed to Adrian.

"There's an emergency. I have to go."

Adrian nodded. Harold looked at me.

"Take care, Natalia."

I glanced at his untouched food. "You didn't eat anything."

"I'll have the waiter pack it up and send it to my room."

I nodded. He grabbed the bouquet, gave Adrian one last look, and left the cafeteria.

Sitting here with Adrian killed my appetite. Just as I was about to get up and leave, I heard his voice again.

"Not bad, woman. Playing the field, huh?"
