Alpha's Twins Chapter 115
The temperature in the room seemed to drop several degrees. My brother's response caught me completely off guard. When an Alpha expressed interest in staying at the pack house, flat-out refusing was basically a slap in the face.
I'd bet money that no one had ever shot down an Alpha like that before. Hell, I'd never seen my brother show outright contempt for any Alpha, period.
But this wasn't just any Alpha from some random pack - this was the guy who'd treated his Alpha's sister like garbage.
I couldn't wrap my head around how Adrian had the balls to waltz in here and act like nothing had ever happened. What made him think Jason would just forget everything and hand over an alliance? Was he completely delusional?
"How dare you speak to an Alpha like tha-"
Adrian cut his Gamma off with a raised hand, stopping him mid-rant. The guy looked ready to blow a gasket - clearly couldn't stand watching another Alpha disrespect his leader.
Adrian pulled himself together and faced Jason. Obviously hadn't expected to get shut down so hard.
Beta Patric shook his head, keeping his voice diplomatic. "Alpha Jason, we respect you. But you can't disrespect our Alpha like this. If you ever visit our pack, we'd definitely put you up at the pack house. It's not a big deal - we don't play favorites with Alphas. My Alpha treats everyone the same."
I could hear the defensive edge creeping into Patric's voice. Ready to go to bat for his Alpha.
"It's fine. Alpha Jason can make his own calls. Nothing I can do about it," Adrian said.
"Glad Alpha Adrian gets it. I can arrange some tours to show proper hospitality," Jason offered.
"No, that's not why I came early."
"Then what's this about?"
Adrian's whole attitude had me completely confused. I stared at him, trying to read something - anything - in his expression.
Nothing. Zero. Even though his eyes were ice-cold, his voice stayed completely level. How was he keeping his anger so locked down?
Not that I wanted him getting into it with my brother, but what was his angle here? Why did he even want our alliance? Weren't we supposed to be rivals?
His gaze found mine, and he answered my brother without looking away from me.
"I've got my reasons for being here."
I held his stare, letting all my hostility show through my eyes.
"What's that supposed to mean?" my brother asked, his voice going cold as he noticed Adrian staring at me.
"Nothing major. I heard you're setting up a marriage for your sister," he said, finally turning back to Jason.
My eyes narrowed. "Marriage?"
Adrian nodded. "Yeah, that's what Beta Eric was saying. Figured I'd ask your brother directly."
"To who?"
"Beta Eric, obviously."
I whipped around to look at Eric, who suddenly found the floor fascinating. Hadn't I already shot down my brother's proposal? So why was he telling other people about it?
Eric glanced up at Adrian, who raised an eyebrow with a smirk.
"Your beta's quite the storyteller, Alpha Jason. Thought you should know."
"Eric was right. But I don't see how that's any of your business," Jason shot back, making me turn to stare at him.
"So you're saying you decided to marry her off without asking her?" Adrian's voice turned dangerous.
"Who said anything about not asking? Didn't you hear them talking earlier? They're close and happy together."
Adrian looked at me like he expected me to say something. Did he want me to deny it?
Even though my brother was lying through his teeth, I wasn't about to contradict him in front of Adrian.
I stayed quiet and kept my seat.
"Great," Adrian muttered.
"Yeah, it's great news," Jason fired back.
A few maids approached Jason and bowed.
"Alpha, lunch is ready in the dining room."
Jason stood up and addressed Adrian.
"You wanted hospitality? Let's have lunch together. That's part of it too."
Jason headed toward the dining room, his officials including Eric trailing behind him.
Adrian got to his feet. "I'll pass. I'm done here. See you at tomorrow's meeting, Alpha Jason."
Jason didn't even turn around, like he'd known Adrian would bail.
"Your choice, Alpha Adrian."
I caught Eric glancing back at me, but I was too pissed at him to follow them to the dining room, even though I knew Jason would call for me when he noticed I wasn't there.
Sure enough, my brother was quick to summon me.
"Natalia, come on. You haven't eaten anything this morning," Jason called out before disappearing into the dining room.
"Y-Yes, brother."
After watching my brother and his officials leave the living room, I stood up. I could feel Adrian's eyes boring into me.
I tried to ignore him and head to the dining room, but he stepped right into my path.
"What was your brother talking about? You're with that Beta Eric?"
I rolled my eyes. "How many times do I have to tell you - yes, I'm with him. Why do you keep asking? Everyone knows Eric and I are together."
He glared at me. "I thought you were lying."
"Why would I?"
"You-"
"Adrian, let's go. We've got paperwork to handle," Beta Patric interrupted, putting a hand on his shoulder.
Adrian's expression turned deadly as he looked at his Beta.
"Wait outside."
The other guys looked shocked by his icy tone. Patric glanced between me and Adrian, then nodded. "Alright, Alpha."
I could tell Adrian's public dismissal had stung.
Patric and the other three officials filed out of the pack house.
"Why did you talk to him like that? He's your Beta, not your servant," I snapped at Adrian.
He suddenly stepped closer, making me back up.
"Cancel the marriage."
"What?"
"I said cancel it and reject that guy," he growled, looking like he wanted to tear me apart.
I was about to tell him to go to hell when a sweet voice piped up from behind me.
"Uncle! You're here!"
I turned to see Aria standing a little ways off, with Noah beside her.
Noah glared at Adrian with angry little eyes and pointed his tiny finger right at him.
"Mommy, why is he here?"
