Adrian shoved his hands deep into his pockets and shot everyone a look that could freeze hell over.

"Stand up."

Everyone jumped to their feet, but nobody was brave enough to meet his eyes.

"If I catch any of you whispering again, I'll rip your tongues out."

Coming from anyone else, the college kids would've rolled their eyes at the empty threat.

But this was Adrian Miller—their head Alpha.

The guy had a reputation for being absolutely ruthless. Nobody was stupid enough to test him. They all dropped into their chairs without another peep, suddenly very interested in their own business.

Natalia was already blown away by Adrian ordering Liana around, but watching the entire pack jump like trained dogs? That really knocked her for a loop.

She could see it in their eyes—pure terror mixed with grudging respect.

No wonder they hadn't recognized Adrian at first. Just like her, he was keeping his scent locked down tight.

"Thank you, Alpha." Liana bowed to him like he was royalty or something.

"Your thanks don't do me any good."

Liana flinched at his blunt response. But then Adrian spoke up again.

"Give your employee the day off."

"Natalia?"

"Yeah."

Liana glanced over at Natalia, who was frantically shaking her head behind Adrian's back.

Liana swallowed hard under Adrian's ice-cold stare. Like she had any choice but to say yes.

She figured Natalia had already accepted that Alpha Adrian was her old friend, so he wouldn't hurt her or anything.

"Sure thing," Liana replied, forcing a smile.

Natalia squeezed her eyes shut, seething. But she couldn't exactly throw a fit in front of everyone.

Adrian turned to her and grabbed her hand without so much as asking.

"Let's go."

Natalia caught a few girls snapping photos with their phones. Adrian couldn't care less, and Natalia didn't have time to tell them not to post anything online.

"Alpha, where are you dragging me?" Natalia demanded, trying to yank her hand free. Once they got outside the shop, Adrian started pulling her down the street.

He completely ignored her and hauled her over to his car.

He yanked open the back door.

"Get in."

"Excuse me?" she asked, looking at him like he'd lost his mind.

"Don't make me force you. I just want to talk, that's all."

She stared at him without budging. She could see his eyes shifting—going from dark to stormy gray.

She wondered what the hell had happened to make him this wound up. He couldn't possibly be this excited just to mess with her, could he?

She shook her head nervously and climbed into the car, thinking to herself:

*Is this about Noah and Aria?*

Adrian slid in next to her. The driver glanced at him in the rearview mirror, too scared to ask any questions.

"Dalle River."

The driver hit the gas immediately.

Natalia slowly turned to face Adrian.

"Dalle River? Why are you taking me there?"

Adrian just stared at her without saying a word. His silence was really starting to piss her off.

She couldn't figure out why he was acting so weird today. Two days ago, he couldn't stand the sight of her, but today he shows up at her job and drags her off somewhere just to "talk."

"Wait a minute," she muttered, frowning at him. "Are you planning to push me in the river?"
