Alpha's Twins Chapter 30

Eric put the call on speaker.

"Is my ex-wife with you?" Adrian's voice cut through the moment Eric picked up.

Same old Adrian – cold as ice, sharp as a blade. That's how he'd always talked to me.

Eric shot me a quick look. I nodded.

"Yeah, she's right here," Eric said.

"Is Natalia really there?" Adrian pressed, like he didn't believe a word Eric was saying.

This time his voice was dripping with anger. He sounded pissed.

I felt my own rage flare up. Did he seriously think Eric was lying? Why the hell would he?

I just wanted to know why he was calling.

Instead of letting Eric answer, I jumped in.

"What do you want, Alpha Adrian?"

My sudden voice seemed to catch him off guard. Dead silence for a few beats before he finally spoke.

"I'd suggest you two cool it. We haven't done the official rejection ceremony yet."

I snatched the phone from Eric's hand.

"Rejection ceremony? You never even marked me, so forget it."

"Unfortunately, my name got tied to yours. So we need to do this ceremony for my pack."

The word "unfortunately" hit me like a slap. My hands clenched into fists.

I thought about all the love I'd poured into this man, and how completely invisible it had been to him. I remembered begging him not to talk about divorce, and how all he wanted was me gone.

How can someone be so blind to love that's right in front of them? From day one, all he ever wanted was for me to disappear.

"You're such a piece of shit!" I snapped.

"Cut the drama and get back to Crystal Blood Pack."

"Why should I care about some ceremony? After all these years, now you remember?" I shook my head in disbelief.

What a cheap move! Like something straight out of a soap opera – just when he thinks I'm moving on, suddenly he wants to throw some humiliating rejection ceremony.

"Don't forget you're still technically the gamma's daughter. Show some respect for your father and our pack," he said, probably thinking I was still scared of my stepdad.

I actually laughed. "Don't worry about my father, Alpha Adrian. I'll handle him my way."

"Yeah, I'm well aware of how you 'handle' things."

That made me scowl.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Adrian went quiet for a second. I could tell he was probably smoking.

I knew this man inside and out. He wasn't just someone I'd married – he was the man I'd loved more than anyone. I knew his every move.

"Why did you post that?"

The question threw me. I looked over at Eric.

"He's talking about your post about his precious girlfriend," Eric reminded me, speaking loud enough for Adrian to hear.

"Listen, Alpha Adrian. Your girlfriend started this whole thing by leaking that conversation between me and my stepfather."

"That's bullshit! Why would she do that?"

I rolled my eyes. "Right, how could she? She's your precious moonflower."

Eric started cracking up in my chair. I noticed he'd grabbed my coffee mug and was taking sips.

"Hey! That's my coffee," I told Eric.

Eric grinned at me. "It's fine."

A low growl came through the phone. "You two are absolutely shameless!"

I'd had enough of this man. He'd wrecked my life. How dare he act all high and mighty?

"You moved Lynda in with us while we were still married. I might have filed the papers first, but don't forget who forced me to sign those divorce papers. Now you want to talk about respect? Did you respect me when you pulled all that crap?"

Silence from Adrian. My heart was hammering. This man was trying to get under my skin, but I didn't want to deal with him. Why was he doing this?

"It's about the pack. About the Luna position," Adrian muttered.

"Why should I give a damn about your pack now? I already gave up the Luna position to Lynda!"

Eric gave me a thumbs up and took another sip of my coffee.

He was clearly enjoying my conversation with Adrian. He looked satisfied with how I was handling my ex-husband. My voice had turned just as cold as Adrian's.

Adrian's voice sounded tired. "My father's sick. He's in the hospital. He's asking for you. Says he won't take his medication until he sees you."

My chest tightened. Even though Adrian and I were done, his father had always been good to me during our marriage.

Despite being tough as nails, he'd always supported and respected me. He was constantly calling out his son for how he treated me. Just thinking about him lying in that hospital bed hit me right in the feels.

"At your pack hospital, right? I'll come see him as soon as I can," I said and immediately hung up.
