"What did you just say?"

Patric's eyebrows shot up. "Wait, weren't you completely wasted a minute ago?"

"Drunk doesn't mean deaf."

Patric took a sip and pointed across the room. I followed his gaze to see some woman giving me a sultry smile. Now that my vision had cleared up, I could see her properly.

Definitely not Natalia.

She waved at me, and I shot her such a cold look that she immediately turned away and started hitting on someone else.

Annoyed, I spun my barstool to face the bar and dropped my head onto the counter.

"Adrian, just listen to me for a second," Patric said.

"Dude, why can't you just leave me alone? What are you even doing here? Going back to ruin my night? Don't you have work or something?"

"Do you have any idea what time it is? It's past midnight. You've been drinking for hours."

I didn't answer, just stayed quiet.

"Those kids aren't yours. You need to stay away from them. Think about your position, your reputation. As head Alpha, you can't just—"

I opened my eyes, and he immediately shut up. He looked away and knocked back his drink.

I pressed my palms against the bar and sat up straight, then signaled the bartender for another round.

The bartender glanced at Patric, like he was asking permission.

I glared at him. "Who's your Alpha here? Me or him?"

"Y-You, Alpha."

"Then make me a drink. A strong one."

His hands were actually shaking as he mixed it.

I grabbed the glass and downed it in one go.

The alcohol hit my system and finally took the edge off.

"Drinking won't solve anything."

I shot Patric a warning look. "I'm already screwed up. Don't push me."

Patric slammed his glass down hard enough to make the bartender jump. He jerked his head at the guy, telling him to get lost.

The bartender nodded at Patric, gave me a respectful bow, and hurried to the other end of the bar.

Patric turned back to me. "I'm done with your mood swings."

I raised an eyebrow. "Did you forget who you're talking to?"

"Right now, I'm not looking at my Alpha. I'm looking at my best friend. What the hell is wrong with you, Adrian? How long are you going to keep this up? It's been over five years since you and Natalia divorced. When are you going to move on?"

I looked away. When I lifted my glass, I realized it was empty. I'd already finished it. I was pissed at Patric for sending the bartender away.

I looked behind the bar at all the bottles lined up there and waved over a server.

"Give me that bottle."

The guy handed it over and practically ran away. I caught Patric shaking his head.

I laughed. "What, you think I can't handle my liquor? I'm your Alpha. A few drinks won't put me down."

I cracked open the bottle and took a long pull, feeling the burn slide down my throat. I took a few more swigs before setting it on the bar.

"So what were you saying?" I asked Patric, who looked completely done with me.

"What do you want?" he asked, staring me straight in the eye.

"I want revenge. She cheated on me."

"Really? Then what were you doing with Lynda? I told you a thousand times to stay away from that girl while you were married. I was your dad's beta back then, and I still cared about you and your marriage. Your father was always worried about losing Natalia as a daughter-in-law. He thought she had what it took to be a Luna. Turns out he was right—she's an Alpha's daughter."

I grabbed his collar. "Are you saying what she did was right? Did I get someone pregnant behind her back? So what gave her the right to carry another man's kids?"

Patric sighed. "The past is the past, Adrian. If you hate what she did so much, then move on. Forget her. She can never be with you again. She has her own life now. The sooner you accept that, the better."

My hands shook at the thought of just letting Natalia go.

Why couldn't I listen to Patric? I had Lynda. I could have started fresh years ago like I wanted. So why did I keep thinking about that woman?

I pressed my hand to my chest and gripped my shirt. Something felt wrong inside. I didn't know if it was from all the drinking or if it was about her.

"I can't. She's—"

"She's not your wife anymore."

"She's my mate. I won't let her move on from me," I muttered.

Patric went quiet. I didn't look at him to see his reaction.

I stood up and headed for the door. Patric rushed over and pulled my arm around his shoulder.

"You're drunk. I'm not letting you drive. I'll take you home."

I didn't fight him, just let him drive me back to my place.

When I collapsed on my bed without changing clothes or even taking off my shoes, I remembered how Natalia used to take care of all that whenever I came home drunk and late.

That was years ago. Why were those memories suddenly coming back?

I closed my eyes, hoping to forget everything for a few hours.

But my eyes snapped open when a massive black wolf with blue eyes started hunting me in my dream.

I sat up in bed, running my fingers through my hair, my mind racing.

I didn't know why, but seeing that wolf in my dream felt strange. I could only make out its face in the darkness.

It was an Alpha wolf.

I'd never seen that wolf before, not even in battle. Was it some other pack's Alpha?

I couldn't stop thinking: Who was that wolf?
