I rubbed my forehead, feeling like I was about to lose it completely.

"Natalia, why can't you just chill out and start fresh?"

Eric's question made me laugh bitterly at myself. I looked down and said,

"When a mirror shatters, it makes this loud crash. But nobody hears a broken heart crying. This whole desperate need for love... it destroyed me completely. I'm terrified to even think about being with a guy again."

Eric went quiet. He had nothing to say to that.

I slowly got up from the bed. "Have you eaten anything? Can you walk?" I asked, glancing at his legs under the covers.

"Yeah, I can. It's just that everything hurts like hell when I move."

"Alright, I'll have the staff bring you some food. Just rest up."

"That's all I've been doing for months. Give me something to do. I don't want to die of boredom."

Eric tried to sit up as he said this, but I quickly grabbed his arm and helped him.

"There's something I need to tell you," Eric said, staring at his hands. They looked so thin.

The poison was really eating away at him.

I sat back down on the bed. "What is it?"

I figured he'd found something my brother wanted me to know after the war.

I was still confused about why my brother had warned me not to trust anyone when he'd ended up trusting his biggest enemy.

"I found my mate," Eric mumbled quietly.

I was shocked. "Your mate?"

I didn't know how to react, but honestly? I felt happy for him. This guy who used to have such strong feelings for me, who I had to keep turning down—now he had his mate. That was genuinely great news. I wanted him to be happy with her.

"Who is she? How did you meet her?" I asked, curious.

But Eric didn't look happy about it. Didn't he like his mate? Was there something else going on?

"Where is she? Is she from our pack or the Blue Blood Pack?"

Instead of answering, he just went silent. I watched him, giving him space to think.

Right then, my phone started ringing.

I looked at the screen—unknown number. I answered it.

"Hello?"

"Miss Hansley, do you have a moment to talk?"

"Who is this?"

"I'm calling from Moonlight Times magazine. We'd like to set up an interview."

I couldn't help but frown when I heard that.

"Interview? About what?"

"About the rumors circulating regarding you and Alpha Adrian."

"I have nothing to do with your head Alpha anymore. So please just leave me alone."

I hung up angrily. How the hell did these people get my number?

"What's wrong? Who was that?" Eric asked, looking concerned.

I shook my head and got off the bed. "I need to get to work. I'll see you later."

I left Eric's room while scrolling through my phone for a specific number. Found it and hit call.

The second the call connected, I exploded.
