Alpha's Twins Chapter 72

Adrian's POV

"Adrian, should we cancel the pack meeting?" Beta Patrick asked me.

I stared at the folder lying on my desk.

It had been months since I'd been losing projects to the Blue Blood Pack. I had no clue what was wrong with my pack's company. My employees were busting their asses all day long, and I was pissed that their hard work was going down the drain.

I won every project in the pack meetings, but when it came to competing against the Blue Blood Pack, my company got crushed.

Word on the street was that a new CEO had taken over the Blue Blood Pack's company. The CEO was a woman—Alpha Martin's long-lost daughter.

He didn't hand the company over to his son, Alpha Jason. Instead, he gave it to his newly-found daughter, Jessica Martin.

I couldn't wrap my head around how some woman had snatched all my projects after just a few months on the job. I had to admit, though—she knew how to play the game.

But it felt like she had it out for my pack. She always went after the exact same projects I was targeting.

Why?

"Adrian," Patrick said my name to get my attention.

I rubbed my forehead and looked up at him. "What?"

"Did you hear me? Should we cancel the pack meeting?"

"Is anyone from the Blue Blood Pack showing up?" I asked.

He shook his head. "Nope, same as always. Nobody from that pack ever comes. Silver Moon Pack will head over there to see their presentation, just like they wanted to come here to see ours."

"Cancel it," I muttered.

Patrick went quiet for a moment, like he was studying me.

"You okay?"

"Do I look okay? I'm sick of those people. First Eric, then that Alpha Jason, and now this new CEO. What a bunch of cowards! They never have the balls to come here and face me, but they keep stealing my projects behind my back."

Patrick chuckled when he heard me. I shot him a look.

"You think this is funny?"

Patrick put his hands on the desk and leaned forward.

"Look, even though you're my Alpha, we've been friends for years, Adrian. This project doesn't even matter to our pack since you've built us up so strong, but you're still obsessing over that one pack. Don't be an idiot. You know what's really eating at you."

His words hit too close to home, and I didn't like it. I looked away.

"Get back to work, Beta."

He laughed at my cold tone. "You can scare anyone else, but not me," he said, standing up and walking toward the door.

I watched him grab the doorknob, but something made him stop. He turned back to me.

"Stop thinking about her, Adrian. She's out of your life. You say you hate her. So why can't you get her out of your head?"

My fists clenched. Just hearing about her made my blood boil.

She'd left my pack with that Blue Blood Pack's Alpha. Who knew what she was doing with that guy right now?

Sometimes I wanted to track her down in that pack, but those photos and videos always stopped me. I still hadn't deleted those files from my laptop. I watched them every night, over and over, reminding myself that she was never right for me or my wolf.

But my wolf was a damn traitor. He wouldn't shut up about her.

Why couldn't he just forget about Natalia?

This was all because of the stupid mate bond. Sometimes I wondered—if I'd rejected her as my mate that day, would I still think about her every single day?

Just the thought of rejecting her made my wolf snarl inside. My chest tightened at the idea. I figured it was because of our bonded connection.

'She's probably trying to find some Alpha to mark her, since that's the only way she can break an Alpha's mate bond,' I thought, clenching my jaw.

When Patrick saw I wasn't going to answer and was lost in thought, he left my office.

That evening, I left the company and headed to the pack house to see my father.

When I walked in, I found Lynda sitting with my parents.

Over the past few months, she'd been working overtime to impress them. I had to admit, she'd pulled it off.

My mother and Lynda's laughter died down when they saw me. I walked over to the couch across from my parents. Lynda had been sitting with my mother, but she got up and came to sit next to me.

I looked at my father, who seemed relaxed. That Wolf Vine Cure had really done the trick. His wolf was healed, and now he was back in fighting shape. If a war broke out tomorrow, he could charge into battle.

"How's everything at the company?" my father asked.

"Fine."

"I heard you lost another project."

I narrowed my eyes. "Did you plant a spy in my company?"

He chuckled and shook his head. "Don't forget I used to run that company. The people who worked for me back then are still there."

I sighed and nodded. "Yeah, I lost it. But I'm going to take back everything I lost from that Blue Blood Pack."

Lynda put her hand on mine and asked, "Blue Blood Pack? You mean Alpha Jason's pack?"

Her words brought that day rushing back. I couldn't shake that night—the accident, the feeling of losing her, and then her betrayal. I knew we weren't together anymore, that she wasn't my wife. But how could she sleep with another man? And she was still in my pack when it happened!

My phone started ringing. I pulled it out and saw it was my gamma.

I answered and heard his voice.

"Alpha, I got a call from the Blue Blood Pack's gamma. He said Alpha Jason wants to invite you to some big party he's throwing for his sister this weekend. Alpha Martin's going to introduce his daughter to everyone at the party."
