Alpha's Twins Chapter 256
I was completely caught off guard when Max dropped that bombshell in front of my kids. Look, I'd planned to ease them into this whole thing gradually. Get them comfortable with him first, then maybe bring up the relationship stuff later. But his sudden confession? Yeah, that threw me for a loop.
"What the hell did you just say?" Adrian's voice cut through the air like a knife.
Great. Now people were starting to stare. I shot Adrian a look that could kill.
Seriously, what was his deal? Always had to make everything so dramatic.
"Alpha Adrian, don't forget we're your guests here. Show a little respect," I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
But it was like talking to a brick wall. Adrian completely ignored me, his eyes locked on Max as he took a step forward.
"You do realize whose territory you're standing on right now, don't you?"
The warning in Adrian's voice was crystal clear. I just stared at him, my jaw clenched. What the hell was his problem? Was he seriously going to chase away every guy who showed interest in me? Did he want me miserable and alone for the rest of my life?
Well, I wasn't going to let him pull this crap anymore.
I took a deep breath and deliberately moved closer to Max, linking my arm through his. Then I turned to face Adrian head-on.
"He knows exactly where he's standing. You should count yourself lucky that he's here in your pack right now. He's a healer who could actually help you."
Adrian's gaze slowly dropped to where my arm was wrapped around Max's.
"Help? Right. Like how he's 'helping' your brother?" he muttered under his breath.
My blood ran cold. How did he know about Max treating Jason? Panic shot through me – what if he decided to shut down the treatment?
As head Alpha, one word from him could end everything. Max wouldn't be able to continue helping Jason if Adrian ordered him to stop.
"Just... mind your own damn business," I mumbled.
Max actually smiled at my outburst. He patted my hand gently and looked at me with those warm eyes.
"It's okay, Natalia. The Alpha's probably just worried about his reputation. He doesn't understand how much we want to be together."
I swallowed hard. The way Max was looking at me made my cheeks burn.
I had to look away, and my eyes landed on Adrian's hands – clenched into tight fists. I quickly shifted my attention to my kids instead.
I was about to say something to them when Adrian's voice cut through the tension again.
"Max Harrison, don't push me."
But Max just looked back at him, calm as anything. Like he wasn't facing down one of the most feared Alphas around.
"I'm not pushing anyone, Alpha Adrian. This is my life, and I know what I'm doing. Right now, I'm pursuing Natalia Hansley."
I had no idea where Max got the balls to talk to Adrian like that. Even his own pack's Alpha was scared of the guy.
I cleared my throat and turned to focus on my children.
Aria was staring at Adrian with wide eyes, but Noah was looking up at Max with obvious curiosity.
I slowly untangled my arm from Max's and crouched down to their level.
"Hey, babies, there's something I wanted to talk to you about," I said softly.
Noah shook his head and grinned up at me.
"Mommy, I like Uncle Max. You should make him your boyfriend."
