Alpha's Twins Chapter 224
His words kept echoing in my head, one after another.
What made him fall for me? What did he see in me? My life was already a complete disaster. I couldn't afford to make it any worse.
I stumbled backward, shaking my head. "No, no, no..."
Max's eyes suddenly went wide, like he'd spotted something behind me. I started to turn around.
But he was already moving, rushing toward me. His arms wrapped around me as he spun us both to the side.
The world tilted.
It took me a few seconds to process what had just happened.
A car. I'd been about to get hit by a car, and Max had pulled me out of the way. When I looked back at the vehicle, the driver was staring right at me through his window.
But it wasn't the concerned look of someone checking if I was hurt. It was more like... like he was disappointed he'd missed.
Weird.
Why would someone want to hit me on purpose? Maybe I was just being paranoid.
"Are you okay?"
Max's voice snapped me back to reality. When I met his eyes, I caught a flicker of genuine worry there. It caught me off guard.
I suddenly realized how close we were standing and pushed him away, taking a step back.
"I'm fine. Thanks," I mumbled, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
"Look, Natalia. I didn't mean to back you into a corner like this. I came to this pack for you. I just want a shot with you. That's all I'm asking for."
I looked up at him. "You say you don't want to pressure me, but then you make saving my brother conditional on me being with you."
His face darkened. "Yeah, it's my condition. Because if I don't set terms, would you ever give me a chance? The woman who hasn't looked at another guy in six years – how else am I supposed to get through to you?"
I ran my hands through my hair, frustrated. "So you're basically forcing me."
He nodded and turned away.
"Hey! Where are you going?" I called out as he headed for his car.
Panic hit me. What if he didn't help my brother?
He glanced back over his shoulder. "I got my answer. It's fine. It's your life. I'm not going to force you."
"W-What about my brother?"
He looked away and started the engine. "I've got plenty of other people in my pack who've been waiting for years, begging me to save their families. I need to go help them too."
My heart started racing. "No, wait. You can't just leave. I need my brother to live. Harold said he doesn't have much time."
But Max wasn't listening. He was already pulling away, calling out through his open window:
"You know what I want. I'm leaving the pack in two days. Only come find me if you're ready to agree to my terms."
