Alpha's Twins Chapter 183

I stared at him when I heard that.

Mate? Yeah, he was right. He was still my mate. How could I forget my rotten luck? My train wreck of a life never ceased to amaze me.

I lifted my hand and gave him a light push back.

"And my soon-to-be ex-mate," I muttered.

His eyebrows shot up like my words had blindsided him. Seemed like I was full of surprises these days.

I watched darkness creep into his eyes until it swallowed them completely, giving him this predatory look that made my skin crawl.

I turned away and stared out the windshield. The car was heading somewhere I'd never been before.

I'd never made it out to the Dalle River during my time with this pack. My adoptive parents never let me go anywhere. They were control freaks who kept me locked up like some kind of prisoner, when they weren't busy making my life hell.

"Don't you ever think that again."

I caught his low growl from beside me. I turned back to the intimidating man sitting next to me.

His eyes were ice cold, boring holes into the back of the driver's seat like he was trying to burn through it with his stare.

I couldn't tell if he was talking to me or the driver. Had the guy up front done something I missed? Because Adrian would never talk about the mate bond like that.

"I know exactly how you feel about me," I said, meeting his gaze.

My words seemed to freeze him mid-breath. He slowly turned his head toward me.

Pure confusion flickered in his eyes, silently asking what I thought I knew.

"I know you hate me, and trust me, Adrian—the feeling's completely mutual."

His jaw clenched and his brow furrowed like he didn't appreciate what I'd just said.

I almost laughed out loud.

*This guy's unbelievable! After everything he's put me through, he still wants to be the only one allowed to hate here? Like I'm supposed to just take it and smile? Everything has to go his way? In his dreams.*

Adrian looked away and said, "Don't overthink it. That's not what I wanted to discuss."

I was getting sick of him constantly saying he needed to talk without actually talking.

"Then talk already! I'm waiting, Alpha. What exactly are you waiting for?" I snapped.

He gave me a quick nod and looked me straight in the eye. "You seem to really love your new job."

That caught me completely off guard. Where the hell did that come from? Wasn't he supposed to be asking about my kids?

"Yeah, I do love it."

"I could see that today," he muttered, shooting me this disapproving look.

I had no clue what this man's problem was. Did he want me to lose this job too? He and his toxic energy would never let me have a moment of peace.

The car went dead silent when I decided not to respond. I focused on the road ahead, and he kept his mouth shut too.

After about half an hour, we finally stopped. We were on this massive bridge stretching across the river, and the place was completely deserted.

I turned to Adrian. "Okay, we're here, Alpha. So what did you want to talk about?"

He stared at me for what felt like forever, like he couldn't figure out how to start this conversation.

I'd never seen him this lost before in my entire life.

When he finally spoke, his words hit me like a freight train.

"Natalia, I found out the truth. You weren't the one who drugged me that night."
