Alpha's Twins Chapter 171

Adrian's POV

The moment Natalia admitted she'd drugged me that night, I felt like I'd been sucker-punched. I locked eyes with her, those deep blue depths that used to drive me crazy.

Something flickered behind them—like fur rippling beneath the surface. What the hell? I frowned, caught off guard. Shouldn't I be the one losing it right now? This woman had played me like a fool and moved on with her life without giving a damn about the wreckage she'd left behind.

"Happy? You know the truth now," she said, laughing like she'd completely lost it.

She crossed her arms and stared me down. "Now let me live my own life. If I destroyed yours by marrying you, then I'm sorry. If I'm a sinner, then marrying you was the worst mistake I ever made. I know you hate me for that marriage, and trust me, I regret meeting you every single day."

I wasn't ready for the tears pooling in her eyes. She was fighting like hell to keep them from falling—and somehow managing it. But those unshed tears threw me completely off track.

For just a second, she wasn't the fierce woman who'd nearly torn my heart out during the war. She was the broken shell of a person I'd divorced years ago.

My jaw clenched as something twisted in my chest, watching her struggle. I had to look away.

"Get in the car. Your house is on my way."

What a load of crap. I hated myself for lying, but I couldn't just leave her here. This woman had screwed me over royally, and I was still worried about her.

Why?

Why couldn't I just let her die in that war after finding out about my kids? Why had I made sure she had everything she needed in my pack so she'd never have to beg anyone for help?

I was opening my car door when I noticed her walking toward me. But instead of getting in, she stopped right in front of me.

When she looked up, her eyes had gone back to that dark, stormy color I knew too well.

"Adrian, everything you did to me before, everything I'm going through now—it's all because of you. But I can't fight fate. I'm cursed to bow down to you even when I want to kill you every time I see your face."

I clenched my jaw, staring at her as she took a shaky breath.

"You're the father of my children. I'm glad you accepted them. The day I left your pack with them growing inside me was the worst day of my life. All I could think about was that if I stopped for even a second, you'd find out about them and kill them."

My eyebrows shot up. "Stop lying. I don't believe a word you say anymore."

She shook her head and let out a bitter laugh.

"Nothing new there. All I'm asking is that you keep my children safe. Don't hurt them just because I gave birth to them. I'm exhausted. My brother's sick, and I can't fix any of this mess."

She paused, like she was gathering herself, then said quietly, "I really hope we never see each other again."

I didn't stop her when she turned away.

She flagged down a taxi and climbed in. Just like that, she was gone, leaving me standing there like an idiot.
