Alpha's Twins Chapter 15
I turned around and found Adrian standing there, with Lynda right beside him.
My eyes immediately went to Lynda's hand wrapped around Adrian's arm.
I quickly looked away and turned my attention back to Alpha Lucas.
"Since your son's already engaged, he must be thrilled," I said.
I heard Adrian whisper, "No."
That confused me, but I just shrugged and asked Alpha Lucas, "How's Luna doing?"
"She won't be Luna much longer. Someone else will take over soon." Alpha Lucas shot a sideways glance at Lynda as he said it.
It was pretty obvious he wasn't a fan of Lynda. Not my problem, though.
"Grace has a fever, so she couldn't make it tonight," Alpha Lucas explained, referring to Adrian's mother.
"I hope she feels better soon."
"She really misses you. Why don't you come visit the Crystal Blood Pack and see her?" Alpha Lucas suggested.
I shook my head. "Sorry, but I have to head back to the Blue Blood Pack right after this."
Adrian frowned at me. "Why would you—"
Eric's voice cut him off as he walked up. "Don't tell me you're lost again."
His expression made me laugh. He knew I was stuck and came to bail me out.
"No, I was just talking to Alpha Lucas," I told Eric.
I turned to Alpha Lucas and made introductions. "This is Eric Hart, beta of the Blue Blood Pack."
Both Eric and I completely ignored Adrian and Lynda.
"Of course! Who doesn't know him? Beta Eric, Alpha Martin Hansley's right hand, and Alpha Jason Hansley's best friend. Alpha Martin ran his pack so smoothly because of Eric's help." Alpha Lucas beamed.
I glanced at Eric, who just nodded without saying anything.
"Not bad," I murmured to him.
"Glad you appreciate my reputation. I need to borrow this lovely lady from you. We have something to discuss," Eric said to Alpha Lucas.
Alpha Lucas looked impressed as he glanced at me.
"Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention please?"
A booming voice came through the speakers. Looked like a council member was about to make an announcement.
Eric grabbed my hand and led me toward the crowd gathering around the stage.
"You saved me back there," I whispered gratefully.
"Did he say something?" Eric asked, eyes fixed on the stage.
"No."
I didn't want any drama here, especially since my brother had basically given Eric permission to start a fight if anyone messed with me.
So I kept my mouth shut.
Eric was my closest friend. We'd been tight for four years. He'd helped me through so much. I knew he really cared about me.
"This event serves two purposes. First, to strengthen bonds between the major werewolf packs. Second, we've recently had several serious werewolf attacks. We suspect it's a terrorist group made up of rogue werewolves."
Everyone gasped.
"We know it's terrible news. But if we work together, we can track down whoever's responsible," another council member added.
"It's time we stand united. We're counting on the major packs to join us, because soon enough, they'll be targeting your pack members too."
An Alpha from behind us called out, "We don't know anything about them. What's their rank?"
The council members replied, "They could be Alphas, or any rank really. But we believe they're just a bunch of troublemakers. They're not after territory. Their only goal is to destroy the order we've built."
The council members scanned the room, their eyes landing on us first before moving to others.
"All the major pack Alphas and their representatives are here. We hope each of you will be ready for war at any moment."
I'd been working with the Pack Hospital, so I knew about the injuries. People dying for no reason really pissed me off.
"Looks like we're gearing up for war against these rogues," Eric said.
I nodded. The announcement left everyone dead silent.
After the council finished their discussion, everyone moved to the next hall for dinner.
The only thing bugging me was how long this event would last—three whole days.
Three days away from Noah and Aria. That really bummed me out.
But knowing pack members were getting hurt because of someone's twisted plan made me furious.
The council invited us to the head table. It was like a massive feast. The main table seated about twenty people—only the major pack Alphas and their families got spots there.
Eric and I took our seats.
"Alpha Adrian, please sit here," an elderly council member said respectfully.
Adrian didn't refuse and sat down. Lynda didn't waste any time following him. I didn't see Alpha Lucas anywhere—probably headed home since his wife was sick.
Adrian and Lynda sat on the right side, close to the council members, while Eric and I were on the left.
To my surprise, Adrian chose the seat directly across from me. I was staring right at him. But I did my best not to look his way the entire time. I didn't want him thinking I was pathetic and still chasing after him.
"Two packs have really risen to prominence in recent years—the Crystal Blood Pack and the Blue Blood Pack."
The council members discussed various packs. I focused on eating, but my mind wasn't on the food. I was thinking about when I could get back to my kids.
The whole time, I felt someone watching me. When I looked up, I met a pair of dark eyes.
Adrian was staring at me.
