Alpha's Twins Chapter 167
Looking at Adrian, I felt like I was seeing a ghost from my past. The entire month of hell I'd endured - every single day had been stamped with his presence. He wouldn't let me forget him, not for a second.
From him using my kids as weapons against me to the scar he'd carved into my chest, everything screamed his name. And it was eating me alive from the inside.
"You!"
The word came out like a snarl.
I could tell he hadn't recognized me until I turned around at the sound of his voice.
I dropped my gaze and bowed my head. Protocol demanded it - he was my Alpha now. Much as it killed me, I had to show respect.
Sure, I held Alpha rank myself, but I'd never wanted to run a pack or wage wars to steal someone else's territory. Last time had been different though. Last time, I'd fought like hell to win. My family's lives and honor had been on the line.
Even though losing that war trashed their reputation, I had to admit I was grateful Adrian let my family stay under his protection.
What always threw me was how he'd banned the entire pack from trash-talking my parents. Day one, he'd made it crystal clear - the former Alpha of the Blue Blood Pack and his family were permanent residents under his protection. Anyone stupid enough to mess with them would answer to him personally.
It blew my mind that he was such a solid leader for his people. When other packs called him a successful Alpha, they weren't just blowing smoke.
Made me wonder why he was treating my family so well. Had Jason cut some kind of deal before surrendering? Or was this all just guilt money for ripping my kids away from me?
"We were just trying to catch a ride, Alpha," I said, keeping my voice level and my eyes down.
I couldn't afford to piss him off. One wrong word and he might make it even harder for me to see my children.
Adrian brushed me off and focused on Max, his hand going to Max's shoulder when he noticed him leaning on me.
"Doctor Max? What the hell happened to you?"
Max was untouchable in the supernatural world. The guy was a miracle worker, and nobody was stupid enough to cross him. Every Alpha knew that someday they might need Max to save their ass.
Max turned toward Adrian with unfocused eyes. I watched Adrian grab Max's jaw, studying him like a medical chart.
His expression went dark as granite when he whipped around to face me, those eyes burning with fury.
He locked onto me, jaw working like he was chewing nails. I had no clue what had set him off.
Through gritted teeth, he snarled, "What did you do to him?"
My eyes went wide. "What are you talking about?"
He released Max's jaw and let out a growl that would've made lesser wolves wet themselves. It didn't shake me, but it sure as hell confused me.
"I don't know what you're—"
He cut me off with a look that could melt steel, his voice turning arctic. But his words? Those hit like a knife to the heart.
"Just like you did to me all those years ago - you drugged him so you could sleep with him, didn't you?"
