Alpha's Twins Chapter 34
After hearing her response, I placed my hands on the desk.
"Don't call him. Call Alpha Lucas and tell him that Nat—"
"Hello."
Before I could finish, she cut me off. Apparently, someone had already picked up.
I sighed and lifted my hands off the desk.
"Beta Patrick, is the Alpha with you?"
I kept my eyes on the woman. Didn't she say she'd call Adrian? Why was she calling Patrick? Was she trying to pretend she had their head Alpha's direct number?
Since the reception area was pretty quiet, I could hear what the person on the other end was saying.
"No, he's in a meeting right now," Patrick replied.
The woman spoke in this super polite tone: "Sir, we need to ask him something."
"He won't be free for an hour. What's going on?" Patrick asked.
"Sir, someone's here to see Alpha's father," she said, glancing at me.
She noticed I was listening, so she moved away and started talking like she was sharing state secrets or something.
I rolled my eyes. I honestly didn't care about any of this drama. I just wanted to see Alpha Lucas and get out of this pack.
"What's your father's name?" I heard the woman ask.
"Excuse me?" I frowned.
No way was I giving her my father's name. I didn't come here to blow my cover.
"Beta Patrick is asking. You can't visit without giving us all the details."
"Tell him Natalia is here to see Alpha Lucas," I said loudly enough for him to hear me through the phone.
The woman's expression changed, like Patrick had just said something that surprised her. She held out the phone to me. "He wants to talk to you."
I set the bouquets on the desk and took the phone from her.
Patrick's voice came through the moment I put it to my ear.
"Natalia, is that really you?"
"Yeah, it's me. Your Alpha summoned me here, and now I have to answer a million questions just to see his dad? Is this how you treat guests, Beta Patrick?"
My tone wasn't cold, but it was definitely more formal. He was Adrian's beta and close friend. I couldn't exactly chat with him like we were buddies.
"I'm sorry for the hassle. I'll tell her to take you straight to Alpha Lucas's room."
I handed the woman her phone back. She talked to Patrick while shooting me glances.
After Patrick hung up, the woman came around from behind her desk and gestured to the left.
"This way, please, ma'am."
I reached for one of the bouquets on the desk. Before I could grab the second one, the woman picked it up.
"Let me help you carry this to his room."
She stepped into an elevator, and I followed. She pressed the top button—the VIP floor.
"I sincerely apologize, ma'am. I didn't know you were the Alpha's guest. The thing is, tons of young women come to visit his father every day. Most of them are other Alphas' daughters. So Alpha Adrian had to restrict access to his father."
I listened quietly as she continued. "They're really just trying to meet Alpha Adrian."
I snorted. "Your Alpha and his fan club."
The woman blushed, making it pretty obvious she was one of them. I didn't say anything else.
I didn't care who his fans were. I didn't even care that he existed.
The elevator doors opened. As soon as I stepped out, I saw a bunch of security guards in black suits standing outside a door.
I stopped dead when I saw them.
"They're bodyguards Alpha assigned to protect his father," the woman explained.
I looked away from the security guards and walked toward the door. After the guards asked the woman a few questions about me, they nodded and let me pass.
Since she wasn't allowed in the room, the woman handed the bouquet she was carrying to one of the guards and left the floor.
A guard opened the door for me, and I walked into the luxurious room.
The smell of various medications hit my nose.
I looked at the man lying in the hospital bed, then noticed his wife sitting beside him, reading a newspaper.
She looked up at me, seeming surprised to see me there.
"Luna."
I walked over to her. She stood up from her chair.
I gave her a warm smile and placed the bouquet on the small table next to the bed.
She pulled me into a hug. "How are you, Natalia?"
Her kindness caught me off guard.
"I'm fine, Luna."
She broke the hug and smiled at me. "I'm not a Luna anymore," she reminded me.
I went quiet for a moment. I couldn't even call her mom now. She was no longer my mother-in-law.
I slowly turned toward Alpha Lucas.
"How is he?" I whispered to Adrian's mother, Grace Miller.
"He's really sick. His wolf isn't responding to him. The doctors say it'll take time for him to recover completely."
I could hear the sadness in her voice.
He opened his eyes like our voices had woken him up.
When he saw me, his eyes brightened.
"Natalia?"
He lifted his hand, and I immediately took it.
"Alpha."
"You came to see me?"
"Yes."
"Who told you about my condition?"
His question confused me. Wasn't he the one who told his son to call me?
Before I could answer, the door opened.
I heard Aunt Grace speak in a surprised tone.
"Adrian? What are you doing here?"
