Alpha's Twins Chapter 14

**Natalia's POV**

My fate hit me like a freight train. How could he possibly be my mate? There was no way in hell I could be with the man who had completely destroyed me.

He hadn't forgotten about that night. He was still blaming me for everything that happened.

His words cut deep, slicing right through me. I hated that he could still get to me like this.

I blinked hard, fighting back the tears that were threatening to spill over.

"You're still such an asshole. Nothing's changed," I said, meeting his gaze head-on.

Adrian's grip on me loosened. He let go of my arms.

"This is the last time I'm saying this—believe it or don't—I wasn't the one who drugged you that night."

He looked at me like I was full of shit. This guy would do anything to get ahead, but he'd never change who he really was.

He was still the same Adrian Miller I'd walked away from five years ago.

I started to turn and leave, but his words stopped me cold.

"What about this bond?"

I froze and looked back at him. "What bond?"

I played dumb, pretending I had no clue what he was talking about.

He stepped closer, and I backed away.

"Stop pretending you can't feel the mate bond."

I shook my head slightly.

"You can't be my mate. We divorced five years ago. I moved on. This mate bond doesn't mean anything."

He lost it after hearing that, letting out a low growl. I swallowed hard when I felt my wolf wanting to submit to him.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

When I opened them, those cold eyes were staring right back at me. I'd never forget what he put me through during those two years.

"This mate bond will disappear the second someone else marks me. So there's nothing to worry about, Alpha Adrian."

With that, I walked out like I owned the place, leaving him behind just like he used to leave me.

As I stepped out of the room, I nearly crashed into Adrian's beta, Patrick.

He gave me a casual wave. "Oh, hey."

I nodded and kept walking.

When I got to the main hall, I spotted Eric talking to some Alpha. He looked stressed.

The moment he saw me, he rushed over. "Where's your phone? I've been calling you for ten minutes. Where were you?"

He fired off questions like a machine gun. I grabbed his arm and pulled him to the other side of the hall.

"Chill, Eric. I was just wandering around and got lost." I lied through my teeth.

I didn't want anyone worrying about me. I'd said what I needed to say to Adrian. That man still hated my guts, and I was pretty sure he'd leave me alone now.

Eric handed me a glass of red wine. I smiled and started mingling with the other guests who came over to chat.

While sipping my wine, I caught sight of Dr. Max.

My eyes lit up.

"Oh my God, isn't that him? Max Harrison, the most incredible healer ever!" I heard a group of young women gushing about Dr. Max.

I looked over at Eric. He could read my expression perfectly.

"What?" he asked.

"I'm going to talk to him," I told him and headed straight for Dr. Max. He was the whole reason I'd come to this party.

I was practically buzzing with excitement as I walked up to introduce myself.

"Hi, Dr. Max. Could I have a word with you?" I asked after clearing my throat.

He was mid-conversation with someone else, but when I spoke up, he turned to me. He raised an eyebrow and nodded slightly.

He was a good-looking guy in his late twenties.

"Sure," he said.

"I'm a huge fan of yours."

He chuckled when he heard that. I wasn't acting like some crazy fangirl, but I genuinely admired his healing abilities.

"I'm not a celebrity or some head Alpha."

"But I've been studying your work for years. Your healing skills are incredible. You're amazing at what you do."

He rubbed the back of his neck, looking completely caught off guard by my praise.

He seemed really kind and down-to-earth. He started asking me about myself.

"I finished medical school and got my license over the past four years. I've always hoped I could be half as good a doctor as you someday."

He gave me the warmest smile.

After we talked for a bit, he said, "I'd love to have you over for dinner at the Blood Moon Pack sometime."

I was shocked at first, then smiled back. "I'd love that."

After our conversation, I was heading back to Eric when those bitchy women appeared in front of me again.

"How dare you talk to us like that? The only reason we let you go earlier was because of our Alpha."

They started causing a scene, getting louder and more aggressive.

"Shut up. Who the hell do you think you are, talking to her like that?"

I turned around and saw Adrian's father, Alpha Lucas.

He tore into those women. They looked terrified, mumbled apologies, and took off. I had no idea why they kept targeting me.

Alpha Lucas looked at me with sad eyes. I smiled and greeted him politely.

"Alpha."

I had nothing against him. He and his wife had always been good to me when I was married to Adrian.

He sighed and personally apologized to me.

"It's been too long, but I'm so happy to see you again. I always thought you were perfect for my son, but..."

He trailed off like he was searching for the right words.

His words hit me right in the feels. I looked down, trying to hide my emotions.

But then Adrian's voice cut through everything, making all those feelings disappear.

"Who said she's the best choice for me?"
