Grace assumed Adrian was talking about Lynda. She reached over and grabbed his hand.

"I'm not comparing her to anyone. If you like her so much that you can't stand hearing a word against her, why don't you just get back together?"

Adrian stared up at the sky, his face calm and distant. But his eyes couldn't hide the storm raging inside.

"I wish I could," he whispered.

Grace smiled and reached up to ruffle his hair. "Don't worry, sweetheart. You'll get plenty more chances. Just don't let them slip by. Every woman in town would kill to be with my son anyway. Who could resist you?"

Adrian stayed quiet. Grace gave his shoulder a pat.

"Better get moving. Don't you want to see those beautiful kids of yours? They're dying to get to their party."

Adrian's eyes flickered at the mention of his children. He looked at his mother and nodded.

After Grace left, Adrian headed for the shower.

Standing in front of the mirror in his expensive black suit, Adrian barely glanced at his reflection. He'd never cared much about his looks. The only reason he checked the mirror these days was to look at the wound on his chest.

He pulled his shirt aside to get a better view. Three claw marks stood out against his skin.

He traced the scars, thinking about the woman who'd left her mark on him.

After that night when she'd left him to meet Max, he'd sent her an invitation to the birthday party.

She'd sent it right back. That's when he'd lost all interest in going.

But he couldn't skip it. Tonight, he was introducing his children to the world.

Adrian walked out of his bedroom and down the hall to the kids' room. When he stepped inside, his breath caught.

Noah looked sharp in his black suit—the exact same one Adrian was wearing. The resemblance was striking. How had he never noticed it before learning the truth?

"Dad."

He turned toward Aria's voice. She was wearing a baby pink dress with a tiny crown perched on her head. She looked absolutely beautiful.

Looking at his children, Adrian felt his heart melt completely.

Sometimes he felt furious with Natalia. He'd missed watching his kids grow up. But then her words echoed in his mind, reminding him why she'd kept them from him in the first place.

"You both look great. Let's go," he said, turning toward the door.

Aria stuck out her bottom lip. "No."

Adrian looked back at her. "What do you mean, no?"

Aria held up her arms with the sweetest expression. "Carry me, Daddy."

Adrian couldn't help but smile at her adorable tone. He walked over and scooped her up, then turned to Noah.

Noah stood silently as always, watching his father and sister without saying a word.

Adrian held out his hand to Noah.

"Come on."

Noah stared at the outstretched hand, hesitating. Over the past few days, Adrian had been trying hard to connect with him. But Noah couldn't forget his mother's tears. He really didn't like Adrian.

"Noah, hold Daddy's hand. Let's go to the party. I'm so excited! It's our very first party," Aria said, practically bouncing in Adrian's arms.

Noah blinked and looked away from Adrian's hand. Finally, he lifted his own hand and took it reluctantly.

Adrian sighed with relief as Noah's small fingers wrapped around his. He walked out of the room with his twins.

This party was going to be one they'd never forget.
