Alpha's Twins Chapter 47
The living room fell into a heavy silence, thick with unspoken tension and unresolved conflict.
'Didn't Delta Julian tell me Adrian rarely comes to the pack house? So why is he here now?' I wondered.
After what felt like forever, Aunt Grace finally spoke.
"Adrian."
Adrian walked over to the couches and dropped into one of them.
I tried to ignore him, keeping my eyes down while they talked.
"You here to check on me or something? Because you never come around. Only time we see your face is for pack meetings," Lucas asked his son.
"What's that supposed to mean? Do I need a reason to come to my own pack house? Isn't this where the Alpha lives?" Adrian replied, sounding bored.
I almost snorted out loud but caught myself. God, he was so arrogant! It just made me hate him more.
"Adrian, Natalia was kind enough to agree to help us with your father's condition. We asked her to stay with us for a week," his mother said carefully. "We really appreciate her doing this."
Adrian raised an eyebrow. "Stay here?"
Now I was sure he had no clue about any of this. If he said one more insulting thing, I was heading straight back to my hotel.
"You didn't even think to ask my permission before letting someone from another pack stay in this house?" Adrian asked his parents.
I stood up and turned to his parents.
"Uncle, Aunt, I'm sorry. I can't stay here. If the head Alpha doesn't want me here, then I shouldn't be."
I smiled at them, but inside I was cursing Adrian out.
"You're not going anywhere. You'll stay here with us. It's not just his pack house," his father told me, clearly expecting Adrian to object.
"We asked her to stay, Adrian. Your father is sick. Don't give him more stress," his mother said coldly.
I looked at her. She reminded me of the old Luna from five years ago.
Adrian shook his head. "Stop acting like I care if she stays here. I'm just asking why you made this decision without talking to me first."
His parents visibly relaxed when they heard that.
"She's my guest, someone I trust. She's no threat to my pack, so I didn't think I needed to ask you," Uncle Lucas replied.
Aunt Grace stood up and took my hand. "Don't mind my son's attitude. He's always like this. You know him better than anyone."
I glanced at Adrian. He was sitting there like he owned the world, eyes on his father but clearly listening to us.
"You're right, Aunt. I know him really well," I said, bitterness creeping into my voice.
He smirked when he heard me, then turned to look at me directly.
"Yeah, I know exactly what she's like too. I'd love to tell you both all about it. But one of you is barely hanging on as it is—can't handle any more heartbreak," he muttered, loosening his tie.
My heart stopped. Was he going to tell them about my children? I couldn't let that happen. I had to get out of there.
"Uncle, Aunt, goodnight."
I headed straight for the stairs. Once I reached the second floor, I went straight to my room. Adrian would probably head back to his company apartment after talking to his parents—he didn't actually live here.
I walked into my room, sighed heavily, and closed the door behind me.
"Just one week," I told myself.
I sat on the bed and video-called my babies. The moment they picked up, I waved at them.
Seeing them after this whole crazy day made me emotional.
"My babies, what are you doing?" I asked.
They weren't talking to me, which worried me.
"What's wrong? Don't you want to talk to Mommy?"
Noah and Aria were both sitting on their bed, looking upset. They both shook their heads.
"Why not?"
"Mom, you lied to us. You said you'd come back tomorrow. But Grandpa told us you won't be back for a week," Noah said, his face all gloomy.
"Noah, sweetheart. Don't be mad at Mommy. I tried to come back, but something came up."
I looked at Aria, who was holding her doll and staring at it instead of me, clearly not wanting to look at me.
How could I tell them I was staying with their father's parents? That their grandfather was sick and I was trying to help him?
I felt terrible keeping them away from their grandparents. But I couldn't lose them. Their father was a dangerous man. I couldn't risk him finding out about them.
"Mommy's sorry. Please look at me."
I tugged on my earlobes—our silly apology gesture—and they almost started crying just watching me.
"Just a few more days. I'll be back really soon. I promise."
We talked for a while longer. I told them to get some sleep, then hung up when I realized how late it was.
I yawned, feeling exhausted. I was about to lie down when I realized I was thirsty.
Looking around the room, I didn't see a single glass of water anywhere.
So I got up and left my room. All the lights were off in the hallway, with just a few dim ones showing the way.
I was walking toward the stairs when I saw a maid. I asked for some water, and she said she'd bring it to my room.
I thanked her and turned around to head back.
While walking back to my room, I heard footsteps in the darkness. I stopped dead in my tracks.
I spun around immediately.
My eyes went wide when I saw a dark figure standing behind me.
A pair of red eyes staring at me made me gasp out loud.
