I froze when I heard her words. It took me a second to process what she'd actually meant. She was still smiling at me.

I slowly pulled my hands away from the window and stepped back.

She looked away from me and spoke to the driver. "Let's go."

The driver nodded immediately and started the engine.

I couldn't take my eyes off Natalia. That smile was still on her face. So why did it hurt so damn much?

The car pulled away. Within minutes, it disappeared around the corner. I stood there staring at the empty street.

I pressed my hand against my chest. My heart was racing.

I grabbed my shirt, fingers curling into a fist. Pain shot through my chest—a wound I'd never let my wolf heal. A wound she'd given me. I wanted to see it every day, to remember how much she hated me.

My phone rang, the sound echoing down the empty street. I had no desire to answer it.

My feet started moving on their own, my eyes unfocused. My mind was a mess.

I couldn't stand the thought of her with another man. Why was that doctor at her house?

I thought about it for a moment, then something clicked.

I pulled out my phone without hesitation.

I dialed a number and held it to my ear.

"Alpha."

"Harold."

"Alpha, what can I do for you?" Harold asked politely.

"How's Alpha Jason's treatment going?"

Even though the man was seriously ill and no longer a head Alpha, I still called him 'Alpha' because he'd once been a pack leader. I could take her pack from him, but not his rank or respect. I'd never let my pack members disrespect him just because he'd once humiliated me in front of other Alphas.

"Alpha, I'm no longer handling Natalia's brother's care."

Hearing her name made my heart ache all over again. I pushed those thoughts aside. "Why?"

"Doctor Max Harrison is taking over Alpha Jason's case personally. He agreed to help since he's the top healer—has a cure for everything."

My pulse settled, and so did my heart.

So he's just helping her, I thought.

"Alpha, I think he can actually help Alpha Jason. Do you want Doctor Max to continue the treatment? It was my suggestion, but if you want to stop it, Doctor Max can't treat Alpha Jason. It's your call, Alpha."

Harold's voice snapped me back to reality.

"That's good. Let Doctor Max treat him."

"Yes, Alpha."

I ended the call and slipped the phone back into my pocket. I turned around.

My car was parked down the street. I walked over and got in.

I stared at the road ahead and started the engine. I'd planned to take her somewhere tonight. That's why I'd dismissed my driver before going into the coffee shop.

But she wouldn't even talk to me, like I was some stranger.

"You said you chose your man. But I'm the only man for you. I'll never let you be with anyone else."
