Alpha's Twins Chapter 124
The next day, I was running late getting ready for the party. After coming back to the pack house early that morning, I'd crashed for several hours.
I was pretty sure my brother was starting to think his sister had turned into a total slacker.
Honestly, it might be better if he just took over my position at the pack company and freed me from all this responsibility. It was getting harder to handle by the day.
And it was all because of Adrian Miller.
I couldn't shake his words or what he'd done to me. Every time that kiss popped into my head, my hands would clench into fists.
Despite the mess of emotions churning inside me, I put on the dress my brother had picked out for the party.
After doing my makeup and slipping on heels, I left my room and headed to check on my kids.
When I got there, they were focused on their homework. I stood in the doorway, smiling at them.
They were my whole world. Just looking at them made me realize I could live my entire life alone and be perfectly fine. I didn't need some man to protect me. And they definitely didn't need a father either. Their mom was more than enough to raise and protect them.
"Mommy," Aria said quietly when she spotted me, her voice still sad.
Noah turned around and smiled, then ran over to me.
I took his hand and walked over to Aria, who was staring down at her lap looking miserable.
She was still upset about me scolding her. I sat down next to her on the bed and pulled her into a hug.
"What's wrong with my baby?"
She stuck out her bottom lip and didn't say anything.
I kissed the top of her head. "Mommy's sorry she yelled at you the other day. But you have to understand that what I'm telling you is for your own good."
She looked up at me with teary eyes. I wiped them away and wrapped both arms around her.
"I'm sorry, Mommy."
"It's okay, sweetheart."
When I let her go, I noticed Noah watching me. He always acted way too mature for his age.
I couldn't figure out why he'd acted so weird around Adrian that day. I'd never said anything bad about him, so what was that all about?
"Mommy, when can we come to a party with you?" Aria asked hopefully.
I bit my lip to keep from getting emotional. I was such a terrible mother. Even though I wanted to tell the whole world they were mine, I couldn't risk their safety by revealing them to everyone.
"Soon, baby."
"Don't worry, Mommy. We don't really like parties anyway," Noah said, giving me another hug.
I was so lucky to have such amazing kids.
Sometimes I wondered—what if I could give them a normal family? Would they be happier than they were now?
I left their rooms and went downstairs, where Jason and Eric were waiting for me.
"You got home pretty late today," Jason said as we walked out of the pack house.
"Like you suggested last night, I was enjoying some fresh air," I replied, sliding into the backseat as Jason's driver held the car door open. Jason got in next to me.
Eric took the passenger seat up front. He turned around to look at me.
I could tell he wanted to talk, but I was still pissed at him. He was supposed to be my good friend, which is exactly why his words had hurt so much. If it had been anyone else, I wouldn't have given a damn.
"I got a call from the border guards earlier. They said two rogues got into our territory last night," Eric told Jason.
Jason's face darkened. "What? Then what the hell were the guards doing at the border? Playing statue?"
"They had no clue when the rogues slipped in. They probably came in with the party guests—everyone's been arriving for today's event."
"How'd they find out?"
"Someone sent photos to our gamma. I'm forwarding them to you now."
When Eric sent the photos to Jason's phone, he pulled them up. His frown slowly faded as he looked at the picture of a dead wolf and another one hanging from a tree branch, neck clearly broken.
He turned to me and asked without hesitation, "Did you shift last night?"
I actually laughed—my brother was so sure I'd killed those wolves.
"Of course she did," Eric muttered, turning to stare out at the road.
I glanced at him, then looked back at my brother.
"They were chasing me, so I killed them," I said simply.
He cupped my face and asked, "Are you okay? Did they try to hurt you?" I could see the anger building in his expression.
"Don't worry. Before they could lay a finger on me, I put them down."
Jason smiled proudly. "That's my little sister."
I sighed and turned to look out the window at the passing scenery. I didn't enjoy killing. I wasn't some warrior wolf who could march into battle and take out dozens of enemies.
When we arrived at the party, I walked into the hall with Jason and Eric.
Everyone came over to greet us and congratulate my brother on the new alliance.
"My man, let's celebrate!" Alpha Leo said, pulling my brother into a hug.
His eyes found me as they broke apart, and he walked over. He took my hand and kissed the back of it.
I didn't mind—it was just a polite greeting. I nodded and gave him a warm smile.
But his next words completely blindsided me as he let go of my hand.
"I want to turn this business partnership into something more personal."
