Alpha's Twins Chapter 240

Max froze when he heard me. His eyebrows shot up, then his whole face lit up with a smile.

"What did you just say?"

"I accept your condition."

He shook his head like he couldn't believe what he'd just heard, as if he hadn't even asked me that question.

I sighed and looked down at my feet.

"I'll be your girlfriend."

Max went completely silent for a moment, then asked, "Are you only saying that because I'm holding your brother's treatment over your head?"

"No. I've been thinking about it nonstop, and I decided it's time to give my life a real shot."

Max didn't say anything, so I looked back up at him.

The second I lifted my head, he pulled me into his arms.

The sudden contact caught me completely off guard. His arms wrapped around me tight, holding me close.

My hands just hung there in the air. I couldn't figure out if I should hug him back or not.

My wolf was pissed that another wolf was touching me. I squeezed my eyes shut and forced myself to hug him back.

If I was really going to do this—be with him—I had to fight my wolf's instincts and accept him completely.

"I thought you were way too stubborn to ever come to me. But even if you hadn't shown up today, I would've come back to this pack in a few days anyway."

I pulled back and stared at him. "What do you mean?"

He looked away and rubbed the back of his neck. "Actually, I lied."

My eyes went wide. "What did you just say? You lied?"

His gaze came back to my face, and he was studying me with this amused look before he chuckled.

"Did you really think I was some heartless bastard? I was just testing the waters. I would've come back to treat your brother either way."

That made me furious. I punched his arm, and he actually groaned.

"How could I forget that my soon-to-be girlfriend is an Alpha?" he said, rubbing his arm where I'd hit him.

I couldn't help but laugh—his words melted away my anger. He actually cared about me and was planning to come back and save my brother even if I'd turned him down.

I noticed his whole way of talking had changed. He didn't sound all professional anymore. His voice was relaxed, softer.

He turned to his guys and told them, "Cancel the checkout. I'm not going anywhere."

I let out this huge breath of relief. I couldn't wait to see my brother get better.

"Max," I said quietly.

"Don't tell me you're changing your mind after hearing all that."

I shook my head. "I keep my word. Once I take a step forward, I never go back."

Max smiled at me. He opened the car door and said, "Let's grab some lunch."

I hesitated for a second before getting in. I looked at him and asked, "Can you please treat Eric too?"

Max's expression shifted when he heard that. "Isn't he the guy who wanted to marry you?"

I opened my mouth, thinking he was about to refuse to help Eric.

"Max, he's not just my brother's beta—he's family. And he has a mate now. He doesn't have feelings for me anymore. He almost died trying to save my brother. I can't just let him die."

I felt awful about Eric. I had a soft spot for him since we'd been close friends for so long. After all these years together, how could I just watch him die?

Max took my hand and said, "I'll help him too, but only because you asked."

This physical contact still felt so foreign to me. I stared down at our joined hands and thought, *Is this guy really about to change my entire life?*
